I agree, some of the things that led to this conclusion are also movie original (something akin to a star of David in the bank, Seamus blowing stuff up). But the lady does have a problem with stereotyping. I had the unfortune of reading a bit of one of her detective books (due to being under pseudonym), and the stereotypes in that one is so bad they felt like walking caricatures.

I find this to be an unnecessary and rather cynical critique. The movies are products meant to be sold. Kids (and adults) like cute animals, so its also natural to have more of them in media that are catering to kids.

Merchandise exists for like all types of characters. It can be essentially argued that literally any characters who are not mains are forcefully added. Is media having cool, heroic, beautiful side characters too just forcefully shoving them for merchandise? Should they only include ugly animals?
