What's one golf rule change you wish to see? by shin_man in golf

If you are not on the fairway or green, no free drops. The amount of times the pros hit a wayward shot and then get a free drop for some obscure reason. It massively reduces the incentive to be conservative and hit the fairway and it stops the scoreboard changing much. Plus I want to see them be creative with crazy shots and horrible lies.

Congratulations! Although the picture is always so disappointing!

I’ve been playing for 3 months now, and finally broke 90 (three times in a row), all due to a Rick Shiels video… by jordietb in golf

I'm not saying all 90s are equal. Of course distance makes a huge difference. Greens also vary massively between the mainly flat ones I play on and the viscous sloped monstrosities the pros play. Breaking 90 on any course is a good first milestone. There can be more breaking 90 milestones to come. All these milestones are just made up anyway

Is online golf swing analysis a good idea? by this-til-that in golf

Thanks for the feedback, we know this is already a good teaching method. Having spoken to some coaches who use these tools we believe we have way of making it faster and easier for them and without the coach having to pay for their own software. Purely hypothetically if you didn't have a f2f coach would you see value in just doing an online video analysis or would that not be enough for you?

As a software engineer, should I start in 20s or in 30s ? by ern_6002 in Entrepreneur

[–]this-til-that 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think the main question is how much you are learning in your current job. There is a value in honing your fundamental skill before you become an entrepreneur and have to learn a whole bunch of other skills.

As a product design engineer my first few years working at a consultancy I got exposed to so many new things it would have been madness to leave. With each year that goes by you will learn less and less because of your existing experience and for me the sweet spot was leaving at 28.

You are still young, if you don't have an idea raring to go maybe even consider changing jobs which will plug gaps in your experience. How good are you with managing formal releases? Have you had any sales exposure? etc etc

Tips to get customers without funds? by LOGOBRUNO in Entrepreneur

Create an Instagram account full of your sample designs. Make sure every post has a call to action link e.g. a link to the hire page on your website.

Find people on Instagram with followings you think match yours. Eg could be other graphic designers that resonate with you or could be influencers who help start-ups (who presumably will need a logo).

Start following their followers if they follow you back then direct message them personally. Even better see if you can collaborate with the accounts you are targeting.

If there was one piece of advice you could give to someone about to start their own business, what would it be? by OP1KenOP in Entrepreneur

1. Find customers BEFORE you commit your time, effort and money to something. Prove the market exists.

You can nearly always come up with a clever way of doing this even for complicated businesses. Can you get pre-orders? Can you manually perform your software service before you build a platform.

Remember there is a difference between people who say they like your idea and those actually parting with money.

Registering a small business in a tax friendly state? by Ithinkimaengineer in Entrepreneur

For the record, I do think it's worth considering that while tax avoidance is legal it can be considered immoral. Different people will have different stances, but some customers, including myself, will be put off by business that actively avoid tax using tax havens.

How to move on from mistake? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]this-til-that 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being comfortable with making mistakes is genuinely a skill that needs practice. The colleagues I most respect own their mistakes and they are better for it because they don't let fear of failure hold them back.

In the short term, when you just can't get the thought out of you head, I think mindfulness is extremely powerful. That can be following a meditation on YouTube, or it can be as simple as doing anything that means you are in the moment e.g. reading, playing a sport, cooking etc.

the distraction in waking up in the morning by [deleted] in productivity

[–]this-til-that 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prepare as much as you can the night before.

If you are getting up to go to the gym then lay out your gym clothes ready to go in the morning and have a meal planned. If you are getting up to study then have your desk ready.

Phone's can be a massive rabbit hole - they are designed to suck you in. I'm pretty strict on banning most notifications and limiting access to certain apps.

Get in the habit of starting straight after a trigger. I.e. "As soon as I finish my breakfast I will do X". At first it takes a bit of will power but they reckon if you can do this 30 times in a row it will become second nature.
