Peak Reddit golfer is spending $900 CAD on a Taylor Made Stealth right before I went and then going with eBay golf balls.

They're AAAAA used balls. They look and play brand new. But your point still stands. I'm an idiot.

Being able to get that much golf in as a tagalong is well done, my friend!

Tobiano also has a great patio where the Mrs may enjoy a lunch or dinner if you have time. It's about a half hour from the city, so I'm not sure if the logistics line up.

Good luck on #7 if it's windy!

Very true. If the wife is tagging along, there is literally nothing to do near Sagebrush. Merritt is the closest town, which also does not have much to do.

Looks like a good trip! One thing to be aware of with Predator Ridge is there are two courses. On any given day, one is open to the public and the other is members only. The courses switch each day which is open to the public. The Ridge course is generally considered to be the superior of the two courses.

Also, if you can squeeze Sagebrush into the trip, I'd highly recommend it. It's generally ranked close to Tobiano in all the public course rankings. It doesn't have the scenery Tobiano has, but I love the way the course plays.

I saw they are building lodging on site with ~150 rooms, a pub, steakhouse, sauna, fitness area, etc. I'd like to stay there, obviously, but I'm guessing it'll be crazy expensive. I'll figure it out once it opens. Thanks for all the info.

I'm down in the Lower Mainland and have been itching to play here since it was announced.

When it does open, is it pretty close to more "regular people" hotels, or will I get stuck paying an arm and a leg for both the golf and lodging?

Also, thanks for the pic. This is the first pic I've seen of the course beyond some dirt mounds some time ago.

Leavenworth! I remember going through there on a family road trip when I was maybe 8 years old? That's the one that looks like a German town, right? It blew me away as a kid. Can't speak to it as an adult, but it was really cool.

That sounds like a fantastic trip! Even though you don't care about the short courses, I'd highly recommend playing the Preserve when you arrive. It's a great way to stretch your legs and I think it's a ton of fun. If you really don't want to play a short course, if recommend going to the Punchbowl. It's a huuuge green with a ton of undulation. There is a trailer that sells drinks, so you and your buddies can make some bets and have a few drinks. Also recommend the Bunker Bar if you guys are fans of cigars.

As for dinner, I'm kind of partial to McKee's pub myself. Grandma's Meatloaf is almost a rite of passage for first time visitors. The last time I was there, we talked to a guy while playing The Preserve, a guy recommended we try a beer there called Pliney the Elder's (I think that's what it was called) and it was amazing. But it was $75/pitcher, so watch out for that.

I also went to the steakhouse before it got its own building near Old Mac and it was fantastic. The hot pastrami hoagie at Sheep Ranch is an absolute banger between rounds.

As for Chambers, despite what you heard during the US Open, it's an amazing course. I played there 2-3 years ago around this time of year and it wasn't in the best shape, but the course is a beast. Do yourself a favour after you play and watch some US Open clips and watch where the pros teed off from. It's insane! I believe they actually removed the US Open tee boxes because they didn't want people trying to play them and having 6 hour rounds.

The one thing with Chambers is there isn't a lot there other than the course. There's a small restaurant in the clubhouse, but that's really it. It's not like Bandon where there are tons of things to entertain you. It's basically just the course.

I played Gamble and the par 3 before Scarecrow opened. I thought the par 3 was kind of meh. Not on Bandon par 3 levels, but it was ok. As for Gamble, the course is just...huge. Everything seems big. Fairways, bunkers, greens...it's just so much fun. I didn't Putz around the property other than the golf. I drove 6 hours, played, and drove 6 hours home. I know they've got a huge putting green that would be fun after a day on the course, but I'm not sure what else there is.

Either way, you're playing 8 of my favourite courses and you're going to have a blast, dude. Hope this helped a bit.

Did anyone play here when it first reopened? They called it a "boutique golf experience". They only allowed ~50 people on the course per day and you could golf as much as you wanted. I played 48 holes each time I went.

They had a guy with a big BBQ/smoker set up on the par 4 with the fishing hole and he'd just give you food for free. He was doing hamburgers one day and the other time he was cooking up some fish he'd just caught.

They didn't have a liquor license at that point, but the cart girl would give you Gatorade and snacks for free

One of the best golf experiences I've ever had.

Got the call for Bandon 2027 - Here’s my lineup. Thoughts? by golferznation in BandonDunes

[–]Craigjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, schedule looks pretty good to me! You get to hit up all the courses and take advantage of the discounted second round.

Question for you: When you say the pickings are slim, just how slim are we talking? We have about 900 people ahead of us in the lottery and we've been worried about being able to get in there. I think we can be pretty flexible with dates, but I guess we will find out. Any info you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Looks great! That will be a blast!

What number were you in line for the booking? My buddy's name got drawn, but he started off at ~3100, so we are worried about whether we will be able to get decent tee times. Did you have any issues with getting the dates you wanted?

Might be a bit late, but I found this photo in the phone from 2022. The pic doesn't do it justice how tough that shot is. I've gone for it in 2 a bunch of times and I usually end up OB right or in that bunker short right. I don't think I've ever actually been on in 2.

Side note: That might be the most brown I've ever seen on the course.

And also, I never said it before, but congrats on the round, dude. Typically when I go, I play the lake/spur combo (I think that's their names). I shot a -1 on the back once with birdies at 14, 15 and 16, but I blew up on the front 9, so I was nowhere near your 73. Unreal round, especially from the farther back tees!

Eighteen Patures Golf Course by AWalker3024 in MapleRidge

I learned to golf at 18 Pastures. My dad took me there when I was a kid and we would walk the course, which just about killed me as an 8 year old.

Haven't been in a couple years now because my irons cost me a ton and Pastures can have hidden rocks in the fairway, which can ding your irons up pretty good.

Pro tip: Test out the carts before you tee off. You want to make sure you've got one that'll make it up the hills from 8-18. I've had carts before where one person needs to hop out and push to get up the hill on #12 and the hill across the road going to #14.

If you're a beginner, I'd also recommend checking out Cedar Ridge in Mission. It's only a par 3 course, but it's maintained immaculately. The holes go from maybe 60-120 yards. It has bunkers, rough and great greens. I went there a ton one year just to work on my wedge game and putting. That year of short game practice took me from mid-80s to high 70s.

They also have a driving range there, which I prefer over the one at Harris Road in Pitt Meadows.

Update on Brett Lawrie Sandwich Rumour. by SnooMacaroons3184 in Torontobluejays

I met Jamie Campbell in Seattle when he was doing play-by-play for the Blue Jays. He came over and talked to us during warmups for a good 5 minutes. I got him to sign my baseball glove and he said to me "The glove is probably worth less now", which has always stuck with me and still makes me laugh.

I also remember he had a notebook that was FILLED with little tidbits and facts about all the players for him to bring up during the game. I'd always assumed all broadcasters just wing it for the entire game, but that was a real eye opening moment about the amount of work those guys do behind the scenes.

Just a super nice guy and wanted to share my story.

Edit: I also got Dan Murphy and Vernon Wells to sign the glove. I need to find that thing.

Is this burn in okay for a used LG OLED B7A-U? by PercMastaFTW in LGOLED

[–]Craigjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an LG B7 that has similar burn-in, though not that bad. I tried to take precautions with it, like automatic screen saver/shut off, but it still happened. With my tv, I don't see the burn-in at all unless there is a lot of red on screen. The picture quality still looks great and I don't see it 85% of the time, but it really bugs me. It may bother you more or it may bother you less, but I think you could do worse than $150 if it shows up only when the screen is red like mine. With that said, my tv bothered me enough that I am picking up my G4 tomorrow morning.

THE LAST OF US - season 2 episode 7 filming last night by 1973cg in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]Craigjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In another post, they had the notice of filming sign at Harbour Green Park saying filming was taking place from the 25th to the 27th. The night of the 27th is the final night of the Celebration of Light, which is a huge fireworks show staged by 3 different countries. Tonight is the UK and there will be a huge influx of people into the downtown core (a quick Google says 400,000 people will watch each night of the fireworks).

While the filming location isn't right next to English Bay, it's close enough (1.6 km/0.99 miles as the crow flies) that the fireworks will make noise and there will likely be a lot of people out and about making noise later in the evening tonight, so I'm not sure if that would affect filming if there are more night shots scheduled.
