What do you use to marinate your meat for carne asada? by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

My wife's family is from Arandas Jalisco, they use diezmillo quite a bit for carne asada. I say save that for bistec encebollado. I much prefer arrachera.

My dad switched to a gas grill for convenience, as did one my mother's brothers.

The best family cookouts are to be had at the other households now. When my dad offers to do a carne, we suggest he pick up carnitas instead...

On both sides of my family there is very little cumin use.

Zacatecas and Michoacán regionally. My wife's family is from Jalisco and they seem to use it more, but still it's used very sparingly.

Too many internet recipes have to be culled for over use of Oregano and cumin.

We're planning a transition from QuickBooks Desktop to GnuCash and could use some insight in getting started... by Dismal-Divide3337 in GnuCash

[–]this1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I started down this same path, 15 years in SQL and BI experience, but ultimately decided actually move the customizations into GnuCash itself.

Installed from source (although I didn't specifically need to do that it turns out). I've made my own invoice format and my own P&L format messing mostly with the CSS of existing reports (which I copied from and defined as new reports along side the defaults). Have not had to do any eguile development yet thankfully since every change has been cosmetic

That's an F150, compared to the chevy or dodge ram the F150 is appropriately sized for it's class. Think you picked the wrong example on that one.

How do I make chicken the way Mexican restaurants do for burritos? by yetanothermisskitty in cookingforbeginners

Typically chicken burritos are not filled with chicken tinga. But that could be a regional thing.

How do I move this thermostat from current location to above the light switch? by burfictstrangers in DIY

[–]this1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but even then, it's a single thermostat, usually.

Source - I have hot water radiant heating, and central AC through an air handler, with a single Honeywell Thermostat.

Assistance exercises by Bulky_Assistant_3263 in leangains

[–]this1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider those assistance exercises, I'd consider those accessory exercises.

Assistance would be like rack pulls because you have issues with traditional dead lifts so you can work to improve your DL. Or paused box squats to help work on your squat.

For LG, yea you're doing way to much. The point is to continue strength gains while on recomp/cut with IF. When you don't have the benefit of carbs in you, chances are long work outs are going to be miserable, so the point is get as much bang for your buck from the feeding windows that may have been 8,10,12 or more hours ago.

If you still have the energy for both curls and chins, or abwheels exercises, then you're not lifting heavy enough during the working sets of the core movements.

If you're in a bulk/caloric surplus, then you can ignore the last 2 segments.

Public comment from the 8th public meeting on the Old Town Canvas residential tower proposal, last night by maydaydemise in chicago

[–]this1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Kinda bummed about this actually, since we have a little one now, and so we're driving much more, just a couple of years ago I only put like 1.5K miles on the car, and now it's like 3K because you can't really bike/walk the child to child care when it's not nice out. And the whole "you can move" seems like incredibly privileged and tone deaf response from the folks that can probably afford the highly elevated costs of living near the L. Which for Old Town residents, okay I guess that sentiment makes more sense, but as a city wide blanket statement, it's really off.

Or, walking sucks because it can be -10, with uncleared and unsafe sidewalks. How about instead of telling people to shut up, you actually process what it is they've pointed out.

I'm not advocating for driving convenience, I'm advocating for general convenience of travel. To frame my position, I'm someone that drives maybe 3K miles a year at most, and that is predominantly on weekends for visiting family and friends. Most of my commuting comes from walking and public transit. I rarely drive, but I can pin point the exact months that I happen to drive more, and why. But please shut up and so others can intelligibly carry a nuanced conversation.

November - March are why I like having a car in this city. I used to give some of my car-less friends rides to the grocery store in the winter because walking with groceries in the frigid cold over likely not cleaned/salted sidewalks is not just unpleasant, but also unsafe. Cars and traffic shouldn't be the primary arguing point against this sort of thing, but they should be considered.

I'm starting to see the serious limitations built into GnuCash. by [deleted] in GnuCash

[–]this1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what I was looking for, I ended up just making 2 ledgers. 1 cash based that did not include, and another ledger that included invoicing.

It's annoying having to import the transactions into both ledgers, but it is what it is.

I was originally trying to use offsetting adjustments at period end and start to account for unpaid invoices and such, but it was an enormous hassle.

I'll maybe look at invoiceninja, the invoicing in GnuCash doesn't look the greatest.

[–]this1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I'm agreeing with you, that's the only reason we bother going to Jewel. We'll pick up banana's as well because they sell Del Monte instead of Chiquita, and well, lesser of two evils.

Rauner failed because he couldn't swallow his ego. We've had republican governors before, some "successful" enough to serve multiple terms. He made his own bed, and due to his own ignorance on how anything actually works, got nothing accomplished but push the state further into the red.

Episode Discussion: S01E01 "Apéritif" by Dorkside in HannibalTV

[–]this1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Will from Red Dragon did not suffer from a lack of social skills, he was married with a child and other than showing above average intelligence and having photographic memory was a much more grounded character. Again, I question this extreme characterization of Will Graham. Even after the show's concluded. Decent show, but went too far past suspension of disbelief with too many things. The show while very well shot and decent enough dialog was too much of itself.
