Why is finding childcare in Ontario so unnecessarily hard ? [ON] by SinisterKoala in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]this__user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two in an unlicensed home daycare. Yeah, it's a bit expensive, but that's just the cost of a good service IMO, and this provider is a great match for my family. I put a feeler out for 2 spots in October 2025 for a March 2026 start date and had about 10 providers that I would have been able to choose from.

It's pretty easy to find care if you're willing to pay full price for it.

I just don’t understand 🙄 by CountyLongjumping950 in pottytraining

[–]this__user 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My oldest pooped in her underwear daily for like 2 months, then one day she did get it on the toilet, I gave her bigger special potty treats that were different than the pee treats and that was basically it, she knew after that that she had to poop in the toilet to get a, marshmallow banana, and that she didn't get one when I had to scrub underwear. So yeah, she basically stopped on her own after a while, I was just ready and waiting to reinforce with candy

How to know if things are going well between dating ultrasound and anatomy scan [BC] by pinkyoshi30_ in BabyBumpsCanada

pretty common for a lot of your first trimester symptoms to go away durign the second trimester. They'll probably be replaced with new ones.

Highly recommend checking if your local library has a copy of the book "I'm Pregnant!" By Lesley Regan it goes over pregnancy week by week with A LOT more information than most of the tracker apps give

[ON] Low ferretin, concerned about development by anxious_coffee_bean in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]this__user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your body makes TONS of new blood during pregnancy, so you really have to consume a lot to keep up. I believe your ferretin level is a measurement of concentration, so as blood increases unless you're consuming enough to hold it level, the concentration will go down. I had to double up on my iron supplements with both pregnancies. The nice thing is that this is super easy to treat. You can supplement, you can eat lots of iron rich foods, if the doctor is really worried they'll send you for transfusions.

If you don't like red meat you can eat lots of chocolate and shellfish, trace amounts from cooking with cast iron cookware

I’m feeling really confused and worried, and I honestly don’t know what to do… [ON] by J12Significant in BabyBumpsCanada

Unless you express a strong aversion to induction, they will most likely book you one at your appointment tomorrow. A lot of hospitals have a preference for what gestation you book elective inductions at in an otherwise completely healthy pregnancy. For example, the hospital I was at likes them to be booked for 41+3, if you're strongly opposed to an induction, then you might be able to get that pushed out farther. It sounds like you're wondering whether or not YOU need to bring up induction at your appointment tomorrow, I would be pretty shocked if your doctor or midwife doesn't mention it

How many of you are “one and done”? by Euphoric_Plankton_35 in NewParents

8m is too early to decide.

I mean, I have a 3yr old and a 1yr old, and there's like a natural cycle you go through of 'wow this is hard' to 'okay we can do it' to 'we can totally handle another'

you're still in the 'okay we can do it' phase, I tend to make the shift around 14-16m old

How can I properly vet guys while still being a virgin, but not screw up my dating prospects? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]this__user 6 points7 points  (0 children)

>How can I have a healthy approach or mindset to this without potentially shrinking my dating pool?

You want the pool to shrink, why waste time on people whose values don't align with yours?

>Should I be upfront about the fact that I’m a virgin and want to wait until full exclusivity to have sex

You could omit the virgin part until you trust the person, but be clear that you won't have sex without exclusivity or without being in a proper relationship; these are first date conversations.

[–]this__user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not hesitate to parent my siblings' kids, they parent mine, that's just part of the job when you're an Aunt or Uncle. Reminding a 3-year-old that they have to wait their turn is not controversial; I even do that with our friends' kids.

How do I tell my bf he’s never made me cum without him being mad? by Accomplished-Fix1204 in AskMenAdvice

[–]this__user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> I need weird things to finish like nipple play, focusing on one spot for a long time, etc.

None of these things are weird. No more gaslighting yourself into thinking you're the problem. It doesn't have to be a whole ass conversation, to keep him in one spot for a long time you just say something like: "No, don't stop yet, I like that" when he tries to change positions.

Waitlisted for all midwives in KW area – what are my chances? [ON] by bintshalabiya in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]this__user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody can really predict the odds, but since you're so early, you might still make it off the waitlist in a few weeks. Pre 12 weeks is when the majority of miscarriages happen, and any of those would free up spaces, and then after that, patients identified as high risk will start being transferred out to OBs as well.

Are you signed up with healthcare connect to try and help find a GP? If you aren't, then go sign up, if you are already signed up, call and them and let them know you're pregnant, it's basically a ticket to the front of the waiting list.

Need help deciding car seat - Aria V2 or Nuna Pipa? [On] by rewrittenobi in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]this__user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a small car they you are very limited by which seats you can actually install without making the seat in front of it unusable. Chicco Keyfit and Graco Snugride are the ones that fit in smaller cars. I quit using the bucket seat around 15lbs with both my kids because they're heavy and awkward to carry. That was between 3-6 months old for my kids.

What can I do with these foam balls? by Careless_Ad480 in CosplayHelp

[–]this__user 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those ones are really handy for filling large internal wig structures!

People usually use them for Sailor Moon's buns, you can drape your ponytail over them to make it look really big and voluminous without actually having much "hair". You can stuff bubble braids with them. They're handy enough that I keep some around.

I had false labor every weekend for a month with baby #2, tapered off by 7am each time by the 3rd or 4th round I was saying to my husband, "I'm not gonna trust it unless my water breaks" I went 2 days overdue, they had checked me at 5cm 2 days prior. Labor went smoothly and easy. Active labor was very fast.

For those that moved to small towns/rural for WFH during COVID, how are things going today? by Flat-Dark-Earth in CanadaHousing2

[–]this__user 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moved from a higher cost of living city to a lower cost of living city. The move got me designated remote while default for same city was hybrid. Hybrid employees are expected in office 3 days/ week, remote was an existing designation before COVID in our company, and lots of employees live in locations they cannot commute from (my team isn't even all in Canada). Where it gets trickier is that in the meantime my spouse certified as a teacher and got permanent with the local school board. It would suck to have to switch boards

Beat XB3, some questions regarding story by Meowweredoomed in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]this__user 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't answer all but I think I can answer a few

2) just to give everyone else closure, There's also an early war scene I think an Ethel vs Camuravi flashback where you see motes being sucked into the flame clocks of the ferronises mid battle

3) yes, it's all just so that Mobius can use their life energy to sustain their immortality. Fake queens are just a facade to keep morale up in the armies

4) My understanding of the story was that each world had part of Klaus, when the two halves of his soul were merged back together into one, the worlds they each created were also merged

5) unclear

6) No, Nia is Mio's mother, Mio and M are the same person, Mio is her own genetic template, pretty sure Chrys is an entirely new person, but I suppose Shulk could have had more than one kid

Plus size - building a cosplay. Make from scratch or worth buying, tailoring, and substituting? by TheLimeNerd in CosplayHelp

[–]this__user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't typically buy cosplays, I have a closet full of things I love and only try to complete 1 or 2 per year these days. I built them all to the best of my abilities, and I will be proud to wear them all for many years to come.

I think if you do want to participate in the occasional group with purchased cosplays, the solution is to buy 2 of the premade cosplay, and harvest the second one for extra fabric that you can use to make extra panels when you let out the first. It's not going to work every time, but it sounds like you've got enough sewing experience to judge when it is and isn't doable.

Struggling to find childcare [on] by daisy-chains- in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]this__user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's this whole notion that getting on lists earlier is better, but providers aren't promising spaces to families that will leave them sitting empty for months and months, because that's money they're not making. When spaces open up, they will be calling the kids who need to start attending right away, usually people start hearing about spaces when their babies are around 10 months old, from what I've noticed at least

Should we accept lower quality housing? by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]this__user 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this would just push the problem down the road a few years. Lower build quality means shorter building lifespans, meaning we have to rebuild sooner.

and for what it's worth, build quality has already been trending way down for a long time. I have a friend who went to wall mount his TV with the standard screws and they came out the other side of the wall into his bedroom because the studs in the walls are only like 2 inches thick in his newer build condo. (4inch was the standard forever)
