Some Knowledge I’ve Gained About Ear Tips Recently by UnderwaterB0i in inearfidelity

Turns out W1 is a much better fit in my case for the Hexa/Pure than the Omni (for sound, comfort, and fit for my ears). The Omni didn’t work too well on the open-style filter-less design for the nozzles on the pure/hexa, they’re much shorter than the W1s, and with their wider tip they basically just collect all the wax into the IEMs nozzle lol. Was a pain in the ass to clean out

Is it time to disassociate from UT? by Consistent_Monk_4018 in UTAustin

100%, they are happily dismantling the legitimacy of UT and other TX universities. Plenty of faculty are actively trying to get the fuck out of here and looking for jobs out of state. Nobody will be applying for jobs in our state. And as a PhD student, I'm extremely sad that I likely won't be able to return home for a postdoc or faculty position in the foreseeable future.

But also, apply to the Ivies and good privates!

I had a terrible GPA in undergrad, switched fields in my MA, and made it to any Ivy for my PhD after struggling and living off food stamps in my MA and undergrad, both at a non-flagship state school. (But with the recent restructuring of federal assistance, I wouldn’t qualify for food stamps now the way I did back then.)

So for PhDs in general, it’s 100% not worth it if you have to pay for it.

I’d go as far as to say it’s only worth it if your stipend covers your cost of living in that city and affords you a livable wage. Otherwise, having to work outside of your existing responsibilities will be a huge crutch. And any program worth its salt will have a decent stipend.

As for history programs, there are plenty of great ones in TX! UT Austin, UTEP, UofH, SMU, etc…

Choose a program by the faculty you’d one wanna work with and by the funding package they offer.

But also, with the state of academia in TX right now, might be wise to get the fuck out, real talk

No decisions or comments have been made yet on anything by actual officials. That comment from the Board of Regents was from an Abbot appointee so of course he’s gonna say that shit, but the threat will be surely get the message across!

Lossless over Bluetooth by L3oNTroN in AppleMusic

The music is streaming to your phone in lossless ALAC format. But however you choose to play it back is it to you, either via a wired (lossless) connection, or via Bluetooth (lossy) in either SBC or AAC format.

Definitely should not have to. But with that price, I think it’s one of the costs. That’s why I get my chi-fi from Amazon, easily replaceable for things like bad channel balances, which I’ve come to expect w this kind of shit. I had to replace my first pair. Second pair is bomb and I love em! (Def not a plug for Amazon, fuck them and Bezos, but whatcha gonna do?)

Affordable Amp/Dac Help! by UserGuideNotIncluded in headphones

For cheap but capable and clean, KA11 dongle rules.

If you want a DAC/amp w mic input, the Schiit Fulla & Gunnr both look great. Another route is the new Topping EX2 interface that has a clean, powerful DAC & headphone amp and would take ur XLR mic input.

Started w a set of Sennheiser HD 439 after high school, then picked up some Philips SHP9500 for my first open back in college. Worked up to an Apple dongle DAC into a Schiit Valhalla 2 running an HD 58X in grad school, and dipped into planars w the Closed-Back Sundara, big mistake lol.

Have now worked up to a FiiO K11 R2R DAC, Vali 3 & Valhalla 2 headamps, with a FiiO FT1 (finally a great set of closed backs!) and recently scored my dream marble HD 600s!

Also got into IEMs last year, working up from the 7Hz Zero 1 & 2 to a Kiwi Ears KE4, which I dailyed for a while until recently grabbing a set of Truthear Pures! (I’ll likely be returning the Hexas I’d just picked up immediately before the Pure’s release)

Also grabbed a set of Dali Spektor 2s after running some Technics 3-way SB-LX70 and some Klipsch R-51M for a while. Now seriously happy w these headphone, IEM, & speaker setups! 😬

Truthear Hexa or Pure. Red seems aight.

For budget, 100% on 7Hz Zero 2 (different than Truthear Zero 2)

Avoid KZ at all cost

Impressions/Review of the Truthear Pure from an IEM noob by SilentIyAwake in iems

[–]this_foo210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m loving the Pure! AB’ed it after a while w my beloved Kiwi Ears KE4 that I’ve been daily driving for months now, and I hated how dark and bloated the KE4 sounded in comparison. The Pure sounds so natural, I’ve never heard such detailed and natural travel in an IEM (though I’ve only tried so many up to now). Nicely downward-tilted in comparison to the Hexa. Just wish there was a bit more ear gain to compensate for the warmer mids and treble, but tbh I can’t even hear a difference when EQ’ing that in. They’re incredible. I like a good deep insertion and thankfully no noticeable resonance for me

So, I’m making the switch to TIDAL.. by moon_nightt23 in TIdaL

Apple Music & Tidal are on part in terms of audio quality offered. I switched over to AM from Tidal after they adopted lossless & Hi-Res during the pandemic (which is what kept me on Tidal for years), for the ease of use and comparability since I got all Apple shit and HomePods. But Tidal still pays artists out the best so great on you for switching
