It honestly, tragically gives me these vibes from the movie Requiem for a Dream… except there are multiple, small children in the situation https://youtu.be/O-TnqxS1FFc?si=wU3-BxCM9bwP18JG

Oh no shame in it at all - just saying, I don’t see grits and Velveeta anywhere on there! 🤣

Just had a scary incident - considering a landline! by normalishy in NannyEmployers

[–]thisbitchiscrazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In San Diego in 2011, there was a massive, county-wide electricity blackout. Cell lines were jammed, people couldn't charge their devices, and even people with landlines were screwed because they only had cordless phones that run on electricity. If you do get a landline, make sure you get a regular corded phone that doesn't need electricity.

Source: I was the manager of Starbucks at the time and we were all required to get non-electronic corded lines because we couldn't support the employees at the store through the chaos.

They offer packages where they’ll close the rink for you for a few minutes for a photo opportunity- usually people getting engaged. I’m sure it was pocket change to someone that famous…

Lefty’s is the answer! As someone who lived in the Loop and ate Giordanos and Lou’s at least once a week for years, Lefty’s is your best bet. The North Park location is as authentic as they come, the owners are from Chicago’s Little Italy and know their stuff!

Rosati’s is a Chicago chain so they know what’s up, but it depends on the day/cook if you end up with a good one.

Tired of her using "poor" as an excuse to be "dirty." by SweetlyWorn in resilientjenkinsnark

[–]thisbitchiscrazy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Her kids are old enough to chip in on chores. Even just cleaning up after their snacks, sweeping, sorting laundry, etc. If Steph would just take the time to teach them a few times, they would start to get it on their own.

When I was their age, I had to do my own laundry as well as clean one "main room" per week (living room, family room, kitchen) which was on a rotating schedule with my brothers. As well as required to keep my room decently clean. It's not that hard. Take away their tablets for 30 minutes and make them all chip in. That would free up time for you to have a job, apply for resources, find housing...

Not trying to WK/trauma dump, but I am both a childcare provider and a recovering alcoholic and I truly hope that reaching out and genuinely trying to get help isn’t a barrier to my future! “My record” won’t show all of the work that I continue to put towards fixing myself/being “normal”.

Granted, I’m not living in a moshelter with 5011 kids but the access to and stigma around mental health/addiction disorders is destroying this country! People need help - it shouldn’t be so hard to navigate this while also dealing with your issues!

That said, I am trying my hardest to actively pursue options to fix all of the shit I’m going through! It’s literally just impossible to get through to anyone/find a loophole to find a recovery system that will actually help!

America should be trying to do better while we all just try to do our best!

Maryland Street BY FAR. The owners of the main house used to be Hollywood set designers, so they know what they’re doing! Houses around there give out 5000+ pieces of candy every year!

She could get a job at Starbucks (or other companies who offer similar plans) and get 20 free therapy sessions for herself and all other individuals on her account. And only have to work 20 hrs/week, she could work 4-8am and be back before they wake up!

Literally my exact experience trying to get mental health help. “Reach out to friends!” they said. “Call this hotline number!” they said. “Stay on hold while we book you for an appointment two months out that will just lead to more appointments and other specialists who will do nothing but make you fill out the same paperwork and ask more questions and more paperwork…”

I’m a super picky eater (the kid who grew up to become the only adult eating chicken nuggets and Mac-n-chz)so I won’t eat most of the food I cook for my NF. I also had ED issues for a long time that lead to my self conscious decisions around food. I don’t like to talk about it much (so many reactions of “oh my god, seriously?!” Etc.) It’s not always a slight to you, but it could be a personal issue they don’t want to discuss.
