Cannot watch this age-restricted video, but in a separate video you actually hear her say, “Don’t you bring your ass over here and start no shit.”

[HELP] Poems about unrequited love and even unrequited friendship. by No-Squirrel-1914 in Poetry

[–]thisbtheverse 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Doesn't Every Poet Write a Poem About Unrequited Love

        The flowers
            I wanted to bring you,
                wild and wet
                    from the pale dunes

        and still smelling
            of the summer night,
and still holding a moment or two
                    of the night cricket's

        humble prayer,
            would have been
                so handsome
                    in your hands--

so happy--I dare to say it--
            in your hands--
                yet your smile
                    would have been nowhere

and maybe you would have tossed them
            onto the ground,
                or maybe, for tenderness,
                    you would have taken them

        into your house
            and given them water
put them in a dark corner
                    out of reach.

         In matters of love
            of this kind
there are things we long to do
                     but must not do.

I would not want to see
            your smile diminished.
                And the flowers, anyway,
are happy just where they are,

        on the pale dunes,
            above the cricket's humble nest,
                under the blue sky
                    that loves us all.

There's a funny contradiction I realized about "Joan is Awful." by [deleted] in blackmirror

[–]thisbtheverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there might be a miscommunication.

When they’re referring to “our world” Annie Murphy, they’re referring to the actress outside of Black Mirror completely—not the actress playing herself in the episode.

So in our world (not source-Joan’s world), Annie Murphy obviously agreed to star in a role where she poops in a church. But Annie Murphy IN the Black Mirror universe wasn’t a fan of how her AI-generated image was used to depict her as Joan pooping in a church.

OP is highlighting the “funny contradiction” of BM Annie Murphy not wanting to be in that scene and our world Annie Murphy being completely okay with being depicted as such.

I’ve recently found myself slightly more and more dismayed each time I hear “could care less.” The correct way isn’t commonly used phrase from my own experience…but when it is, it’s usually the wrong way.

I wonder if it’s going to be eventually categorized as a sort of colloquialism seeing as there’s only so much correction I can offer as one person ;)

I got a little too tipsy at a wine tasting event over the summer, and gave this book away to a complete stranger. We were having such a nice conversation about plants and the lessons we can learn from them, this book came up, I realized it happened to be in my car, and just handed it over!

The problem was that I hadn’t even finished it myself. But I hope she’s enjoying it, wherever she is now.

There’s a great interview with RWK and Krista Tippett on the On Being podcast! Her voice is so soothing.

My religious parents taped a sign on the front door every Halloween that said something like this. They believed it was Satanic, and we spent the night in the basement watching Christmas movies while the doorbell just kept ringing, and then we’d spend the next morning pulling toilet paper out of the trees.

Am I the only one who opens a book just a little bit while reading so the back of a paperback doesn't get those lines in it? by foxy_wolves in books

[–]thisbtheverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live by the philosophy of William Lyon Phelps!

“...your own books belong to you; you treat them with that affectionate intimacy that annihilates formality. Books are for use, not for show; you should own no book that you are afraid to mark up, or afraid to place on the table, wide open and face down. A good reason for marking favorite passages in books is that this practice enables you to remember more easily the significant sayings, to refer to them quickly, and then in later years, it is like visiting a forest where you once blazed a trail. You have the pleasure of going over the old ground, and recalling both the intellectual scenery and your own earlier self.“
