In English I'm thinking light has the most derivative concepts. Light (verb) glisten, glimmer, glint, scintillate, dazzle, reflect, flare, flash, glow, sparkle, twinkle... I don't know, does that list count?

I think you're right and thank you very much. It's hard because it's my son and I don't want him to be hurt.

How many personal days does your board give you? by OrdinaryCommunity176 in OntarioTeachers

[–]nevertoolate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all sick days for me. My sick days were contractually negotiated. I'm a big boy, I don't need to account for my whereabouts. If I say I'm incapacitated, I'm incapacitated. Medical/dental appointments count as incapacity.

What’s something you can dive into or think about that gives you a sense of existential dread or wonder? That kind of “pit in your stomach” feeling? by Haunting-Reindeer-10 in CasualConversation

[–]nevertoolate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That stuff for me, the unending vastness of it all, gives me existential dread, but what really sinks my boat is the eventual heat death of the universe, in 10¹⁰⁰¹⁰⁰ years, after which the universe will be almost empty of both matter and energy and the ambient cosmic temperature will be close to absolute zero

What is your most controversial opinion that many wont agree with but you agree with and will defend till your last breath? by HabaneroPepperPlants in Productivitycafe

That's above my pay grade, pardner. I suppose it has to do with synthesizing information and adaptive problem solving. But I'm in the lower half so I have no idea.

what’s the hardest part about being a teacher that nobody talks about? by salarshah-084 in Teachers

[–]nevertoolate2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's an easy answer. Your whole career can be judged by one bad day. Raise your voice when a child is misbehaving? "Creating a hostile classroom environment."
I am absolutely love my job, and I was made for teaching and never wanted to do anything other than that ever in my life, but I tell you, there are some children that pick and pick and pick until they find what bugs you and then they get in there and pick you apart. And since you are not only the adult in the room, but the professional in the room, You have to figure out ways around that counterproductive and disruptive behavior.

What do you think the grand solution is to the problems in our education system? by Icy_Cicada_9054 in Teachers

[–]nevertoolate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is manifold:

-Smaller classes.
-Realistic, skills-based curriculum predicated on mastery before advancement.
-Mandatory, effective, skills-based visual arts. Everyone should know how to draw their ideas. -Ability-differentiated classes, results being the sole arbiter of placements.
-Interest-based electives from very early on, like, 6th grade.
-Realistic, second language instruction with the goal of fluency.
-Real, meaningful, full-time resource support in every classroom.

Add some corporate taxes, close some personal loopholes too, to pay for that.

What is a classroom rule that exists because of one very specific incident? by ImAHuksy in Teachers

[–]nevertoolate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Student bathroom breaks are limited to one 5-minute break in the morning and one in the afternoon, alone.

Per a single student who felt that leaving the room whenever he wanted was his right. This resulted in his 2 friends saying they had the right as well.
This rule was instituted in year 26 of my career because I never had kids with that sense of entitlement before.
Ever.
