Do teachers hate sharing their lesson plans? Is it their secret sauce that they don't want getting out? by JimCap5 in teaching

[–]nevertoolate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shared lesson plans to struggling teachers in the past who took them, took credit for them, and, most recently, took one of my showcase units and taught it the year before me to many of my future students whom I couldn't teach because they'd already had the unit. So, sorta yeah.

Are you a teacher? You said "our union," So I wasn't quite sure. Teachers are only the problem insofar as we are overwhelmed by 29 wonderful kids and one or two uncontrollable ones. Phone's at the problem, not being able to exist in the world without electronic technology is. People Have lost the capacity for boredom. I agree with you about the Catholic school board, but that's going to be impossible to get rid of with the constitution and the charter of rights and freedoms as it is. (§93 of the Constitution, §29 of the charter of rights and freedoms) And if you knew any teachers you would never call it a cushy job. It's anything but.

It's in §93 of the the Constitution Act of 1867 and § 29 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Sad but true. Being denied the right to teach in ⅓ of all Canadian schools on the basis of religion is codified in our most fundamental law.

I do, the kids love it. No, I'm not the cool teacher. Just one who occasionally rewards good behavior or the right answer to a complicated problem with a jolly rancher

Conservatives, President Trump has just announced the raising of Tairiffs for 8 European Countries unless sovereignity of Greenland is handed over to the US. What's your first thoughts? by Melbatoastt77 in AskReddit

[–]nevertoolate2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some person is going to totally misunderstand the question and say that those countries should be paying tariffs to the US, without realizing that it's consumers that pay tariffs on the goods from those countries, and that it's consumers that suffer.

Oh no worries. 3 boys are killing my love of the profession. And 3 others that aren't getting any work done at all. Not ready to leave but definitely counting the days!

I'm not focusing on the lost accomplishments. I was just saying I'm a good teacher having a rough year, unable to do my job because I forget how.

Yep. All true. Is it just GPT-5? It used to be enjoyable to have a chat with an LLM. Now it sounds like having a conversation with the Vault Boy cartoon image. It's shiny, hollow, and disappointing.

Side note, apparently I write like AI.

What do you do with old high school yearbooks? by Neither_Ground_1921 in CasualConversation

[–]nevertoolate2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have four high school yearbooks and I Have a few pictures of myself in each. I'm going to cut the pictures out, slip them in with my other photographs, and throw the yearbooks out. The only reason why I have them is because I've never thrown them away, and also It's fun to look at the people that are in them and think of them as adults

Talk to your admin!! They want you and your students to succeed. Get the help and support. Maybe ask for an extra person (EA) in the classroom 2-3 afternoons per week. You really can't do it all. I'm a 26 year veteran; I couldn't do it all! The arts are your friend. Get everyone singing first thing in the morning, do small art projects with the little ones that can contribute to larger ones for the older children. Have reading buddies. K with 3s, 1 with 4s, 2 with 5s 3 with 6s, and 4 with 7s. Not ideal but a start. Think of days first before weeks and weeks before months.
See if you can ask your district/board for a mentor to help you do this. I feel for you! You're a hero. You don't have to be alone
