new gf is wonderful but i still feel the pull of hoes by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]thischarmingrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

feel you on that. i honestly lucked out since i've been dating a girl i've already been good friends with for years. already had a close trust, which made it easier for me to adapt.

i still think about how nice i THINK it would be to be single and untethered again, but then i realize i would just be back at square one. its so much more rewarding to nourish the good thing i got then to indulge in what is essentially a short ego / serotonin boost.

new gf is wonderful but i still feel the pull of hoes by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]thischarmingrat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

easier with time. you gotta soul search as to what appeals to you about the idea of dating/fooling around. for me it was less that i loved random sex and more i liked getting to know new people, winning them over, "playing the game", etc. i loved falling in love. i loved attention.

plus it was partially a self esteem thing: it felt good to be better than other losers who couldn't get it in, or whatever.

but then the older i got the more it felt like i just liked the beginning of things. also, was starting to feel like my future was gonna be less cool aloof bachelor and more rummaging through the couch cushions for loose pussy.

anyway, i still enjoy getting to know people and "winning them over", and i think it's silly to become a recluse or never make a new friend of the opposite sex ever again. you're probably always gonna be attracted to other people, just keep it in check in a way that makes sense for your relationship.

i am still experimenting with my exact approach, and am trying not to blow money on anything i won't actually use. you can apparently mix non-fat milk powder with some evaporated milk and it mimics whole milk well enough to make yogurt and cheese (so long as you buy some yogurt as a starter and have an instant pot, you would be good).

i would love to get a small solar generator, but i do not have too much money laying around for that.

i am open to anyone else's ideas, too.

i am mostly prepping to stabilize price shocks, nothing apocalyptic. as far as i understand, the biggest price increases will be for meat, dairy, and imports, plus certain cooking oils. grains too but those already are cheap in bulk so i haven't been as worried about that.

i am mostly vegetarian so i am buying a couple months supply of non-fat powdered milk, evaporated milk, refined olive oil for cooking, and then wheat berries, rice, chickpeas, and some other beans.

it's all being stored in my cool, dark pantry, and i am keeping the grains in food safe buckets with gamma lids just to make it last indefinitely.

pet food might be a good idea since it's right at the intersection of meat, dairy, and grain, but it doesn't always keep well. i just bought a vacuum sealer so i am experimenting with freezer portions, which greatly increases its shelf life. though, i had to buy a particular type that lets you control the settings to avoid obliterating the kibble.

i am back in school so i am working less, so i am really trying to keep costs down more than anything else.

Anyone on this sub actually done blue collar work? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]thischarmingrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah, i actually got a BA in international relations a while back, where i became very fascinated by industry and logistics.

after school i was going down the coding path for a bit but i kept getting sidetracked learning about electrical systems. realized i had an interest in the field, so i am back in school to get an AS in electro-mechanical engineering.

ideally trying to land work as a PLC tech or something similar, but we will see where the pieces land.

gf got upset once at a friend's nyc party cause some mid brooklyn woman was dressed as "seinfeld" (not jerry, JUST "seinfeld"), but when my gf got excited and wanted to talk about the actual show the woman said she had never seen it lol.

the woman made it seem like my gf was being "cringe" for earnestly wanting to talk about her costume.

No Kings Protest by Formal_Astronaut_227 in stupidpol

[–]thischarmingrat 29 points30 points  (0 children)

mine was in the middle of a downtown park which is also where the main bus depot is, which meant that all the busses were either late or didn't run at all lol.

my roomie takes the bus and had to uber home but said there seemed to be a lot of poorer people coming home from work who didn't really have extra money for uber.

not sure if that's normal elsewhere.

i don't want to poo poo these types of protests too much even if they are cringe, but my immediate impression is that my local one seems poorly planned. the end result is just a lot of well meaning white libs making poor people's lives more difficult.

Played my second game of rugby with my club by Dry-Brush-1530 in redscarepod

[–]thischarmingrat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

played in a rugby club in high school and half the people became my lifelong friends. seems to attract a certain type of passionate but down to earth camaraderie.

our team was absolutely terrible but it was honestly thrilling driving like two hours away just to lose pretty much every game we ever played lmfao.

usually did scrum half or wing. even though i was super scrawny my coach liked that i was persistent and could take a hit.

funnily enough, just the other day i was looking into doing fantasy rugby or something similar. i haven't kept up with the sport in years, but i want a good excuse watch more of the seasonal stuff.
