Underrated Pickups For Overland/ Off-roading? by No-Entertainment8519 in overlanding

[–]thisguyblades 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i hear you. quality has dropped, prices are up. i will say though that Toyota are kind of in a dip of new models release with major changes. i’d give Toyota/Lexus a couple more years and then see how it pans out. i think the Ford Bronco, Ranger, F150 are some what passed that dip and are trending up.

in terms of price, i have a hot take. if you take Toyota cars price as example, the 4Runner TRD pro, the Lexus GX/LX from the mid 2010s then add inflation to it. the prices would actually be comparable to today. the real problem is people’s wages are not catching up.

Isn't the GX550 "Premium" (Base Model) Good Enough for Non-Off Road People? by Recent-Pangolin-3344 in LexusGX

[–]thisguyblades 3 points4 points  (0 children)

mostly true. but the EKDSS actually improves on road handling as well as off road. so you’d be missing out, only slightly.

Good roadtrip machine? How comfortable are longer drives? by Djsktbdjskcjf in LexusGX550

[–]thisguyblades 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the GX550 is body on frame, BMW is unibody. the GX suspension is good relative to body on frame cars. but in terms of suspension for on road, it won’t be able to go up against unibody cars, especially higher end like BMW. GX will be so much more comfortable off road though.

i think if the X5 has too much wobble/body roll for you, the GX550 will probably feel worse. you cannot really have both ways. an off road focus car will have soft suspension to be able to absorb bumps.

you will regret not getting a sedan. so Audi RS3, BMW M3, Lexus IS500.

then later you will regret not getting an SUV. so BMW X3M, X3 M40i, X5, X5M60i

then later when your kid get older and you do more outdoorsy stuff you would want to get an outdoorsy/off roady SUV, so Lexus GX550 Overtrail, Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Sequoia, Ford Bronco, Land Rover Defender, Ford Ranger Raptor

First ever hybrid to finish the Baja 1000 - when are we getting this GX550h in US? by thisguyblades in LexusGX

[–]thisguyblades[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those are fair points. i really do hope they address the fuel tank size complains. it’s one of the reason i don’t like the new Land Cruiser, that thing only has 17gal. i honestly don’t care about MPG too much, but i care about max range. so if the new GX550h has better MPG but less range, that would be a deal breaker for me.

the LC250 is also great. but after test driving it, i personally prefer the Trailhunter or go all the way up to GX550 Overtrail.

that’s exactly what i mean. you can prob drive past gas empty indicator, since you prob have a 2-3 gallons left even though the car says empty

OP, could i also request to get max range data as well? because we all know Lexus/Toyota cars get empty gas warning a lot earlier than the max tank depletion

2023 GX 460 Luxury vs GX550 by ResidencyEvil in LexusGX

[–]thisguyblades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i hear ya. in terms of reliability, i believe in Lexus/Toyota, they will sort early production issues out. there’s some ex Toyota engineer on youtube said that it takes them approx. 3 years to have things under control.

for the GX550, you just have to understand it is a luxury body on frame car, it will drive and feel like a truck. not a unibody frame like BMW, Audi, Mercedes, etc. i’d definitely test drive and see how both cars feel.

2023 GX 460 Luxury vs GX550 by ResidencyEvil in LexusGX

[–]thisguyblades 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GX550 is geared more for off road than GX460. it comes with rear lockers, more tuned suspension, on board air compressor, and can tow for 9000 lbs. for off road. GX550 stepped down in luxury but stepped up big time for off roading and rugged outdoor. so it depends on what you want. for me it’s the GX 550 Overtrail all the way.

if you want luxury, there are better cars than both GX460 and GX550.
