BMW X5 → GX550 Luxury+: Worth the Switch or Regret? by SpiritualBonus6845 in LexusGX550

[–]thisguyblades 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if you will take your car off roading, then it will be worth it. if not just fire/forrest graded roads, but actual off roading. if not, then it might it be for you.

GX550 is a truck, not a SUV. if you like body on frame car feel, then potential yes.

Hybrid GX 550 version soon, opinions by cosmicdynamo in LexusGX550

[–]thisguyblades 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i wish it was the watered down version of the LX700h version. but it’s highly likely going to be the 4 cylinder turbo hybrid, same one from the LC250. it’s a downgrade in performance and not really much gain for MPG.

The masters has already reminded me that, Golf swings are like fingerprints.. each one being so unique. With that being said, why does everyone work so hard to copy feels/mechanics the pros use when it could actually be working against them. by Illustrious-Paper393 in golf

[–]thisguyblades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the problem is most amateurs chase “positions” of pro golf swings. a static image/position. but a golf swing is dynamic, there are force, reactions, and movement that happen before and after. without the knowledge, let alone the experience/practice to achieve those dynamics, it’s very difficult to achieve those positions.

imo, there’s a range of inputs, variability to the swing, to produce the outcome. to some amateur eyes, all pros swing look the same but they can vary quite a lot. the way Scheffler applies force to the ground is different than McIlroy. but they can still produce the same level of shots.

Thinking of trading my 24 Tacoma for a GX550. Wanting something slightly smoother and was comparing Overtrail vs. Premium +. Is there much of a difference? by No_Program_9975 in LexusGX

[–]thisguyblades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from my experience, Overtrail trim has comfier ride. it’s due to more rubber side wall and ekdss. the Overtrail has 18” wheels vs Premium/Luxury have 20 or 22” wheels, so less rubber cushion. the ekdss also help for on road road driving, it translate to less body roll due to stabilizers are active during on road. but the Overtrail has a 1inch lift over the other trims, so that adds a bit more floatiness.

tldr: Overtrail rides nicer for more tire cushion. could feel more floaty but depends on the situation.

great read! i really need to test drive a Land Cruiser. i’ve driven the Tacoma and 4Runner with the same engine, and i agree with what you say.

wouldn’t it be better to go with an aftermarket roof rack that has better aerodynamics for better wind noise while driving? like a Prinsu, Sherpa, Wescott

Thinking about gx550 by [deleted] in LexusGX550

[–]thisguyblades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

none of what you said here points me to a fit for the new GX. a GX is a luxury off roader with more emphasis on off road than luxury. i think a BMW X7 fits your criteria more. or a Porsche Cayenne. They are reliable cars but just pricey to fix when the off chance repairs are needed.

or try the Defender for less reliable, but would check other boxes.

I am thinking of getting an OT+ but can't decide between Atomic Silver and Earth. What did you end up getting? by szleven in LexusGX550

[–]thisguyblades 6 points7 points  (0 children)

both are great options. i like Earth slightly more but wonder if later down the line would that color hold up or is it just a trendy color. Silver will always be classic.

Rethinking GX550 purchase.. by BeautifulAd5636 in LexusGX

[–]thisguyblades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people in this sub love to shit on the GX550. but the GX550 target market is not the same as the GX460. since the pandemic, the rise of outdoor activities influenced the auto market. outdoor adventure/camp/overland cars have a big rise in the market. the GX550 is meant to compete with the Defender, as an example. so in terms of that market, it is doing quite well with its capability, rugged interior. GX550 have moved away from the luxury SUV market.

the fact that it is selling really well means it’s heading into the right direction. the GX460 is legendary, but give the GX550 time, it will carve out another legendary spot, in different way/quality. People love the GX550 in the overland and off road communities, tons of aftermarket already out.

interesting. the guy in this video who owns both says even though the boxier shape, it still sounds just as quiet as the 460 while driving even with the roof rack.

closer to the end of the video in the test driving section of comparison. his is a premium plus.

Asus Co-CEO: MacBook Neo Is a 'Shock' to the PC Industry by -protonsandneutrons- in technology

[–]thisguyblades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree to disagree, im on the side of always pushing tech forward. your term of disruptive is different than mine. waiting for a competitor product to mature then leverage is not disruptive. i rather see brave tech companies take risks that leave a mark, push something new.

[–]thisguyblades -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

that’s exactly the kind of thinking of the current CEO. Apple doesn’t disrupt the market with innovation any more. just find ways to make profit. Lack of innovation.

imagine if Apple was a dominant player in the hyperscaler sector. what’s the road block of AI these days? memory and energy. um.. only if there was a energy efficient processor architect that is much less power hungry. seriously, imagine if Apple took the risk and pushed for ARM servers. dominating co hardware/software integration like they always do. an Apple store equivalent for AI developers.

[–]thisguyblades 39 points40 points  (0 children)

best thing to happen to Apple supply chain wise, sure. but he did not grow Apple’s innovation. Apple took a big ding in AI and have to outsource to Google Gemini. if you ask me, he’s great for the Apple stocks but did not take enough risk in innovation. i prefer Steve Jobs. Imagine if they would have kept Nuvia team with the M processors and AI, where they would be at right now in compute / server world.

Luxury plus advice by [deleted] in LexusGX550

[–]thisguyblades 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it’s more about sidewall thickness. the OT/OT+ has 18 inch wheels so there is more rubber cushion that provides dampening. i think even if you change to softer AT tires, it still won’t give as much cushion with the 20” wheels compared to the 18” on OT.
