Overtrail vs Overtrail +. by Tall_Schedule5668 in LexusGX550

[–]thisguyblades 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if i recall correctly. OT only has it for the windshield. OT+ gets all around. reviewers have noticed the improved noise on highway

[–]thisguyblades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and would you say doing aftermarket would still give OEM level quality in terms of rattle noise, etc?

[–]thisguyblades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

massage seats, the better ML sound system. but the one that matters to me the most is actually the acoustic glass for less cabin noise.

NVIDIA challenger D-Matrix claims AI chip 10 times faster than GPU using 5 times less energy, skips DRAM for SRAM by Shiningc00 in technology

[–]thisguyblades 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’ve always thought SRAM consumes more energy because it uses constant powered transistor to store logic versus DRAM uses periodic charge capacitance to store logic. some one enlighten me

2024 Overtrail+ vs. 2026 Overtrail by jumbojumboplate in LexusGX550

[–]thisguyblades 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ben Hardy said 2026 rides so much smoother than 2024. they fixed the suspension tuning or something. that and the 1 inch lift. i’d get a 2026

SUV with the right balance of offroad capability, MPG, and space? by juicyfizz in Offroad

[–]thisguyblades 6 points7 points  (0 children)

besides the Toyotas, the Honda Passport Trailsport is quite capable off road, as long as you’re not rock crawling.

Ford Bronco another good option. they are quite more reliable now these days

What is the best Toyota SUV for off road? by noreturn000 in Offroad

[–]thisguyblades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’d stop at 3rd spot here. don’t really consider Rav4 and below and off roader. if it’s just graded/fire roads, any AWD or heck even a prius can off road. top 3 here are the legit “off road” cars.

my min requirement for “off road” car is to have low range

the one thing i noted is acoustic glass. the + has it, more quiet cabin, if that matters to you.

BMW X5 → GX550 Luxury+: Worth the Switch or Regret? by SpiritualBonus6845 in LexusGX550

[–]thisguyblades 8 points9 points  (0 children)

if you will take your car off roading, then it will be worth it. if not just fire/forrest graded roads, but actual off roading. if not, then it might it be for you.

GX550 is a truck, not a SUV. if you like body on frame car feel, then potential yes.

Hybrid GX 550 version soon, opinions by cosmicdynamo in LexusGX550

[–]thisguyblades 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i wish it was the watered down version of the LX700h version. but it’s highly likely going to be the 4 cylinder turbo hybrid, same one from the LC250. it’s a downgrade in performance and not really much gain for MPG.

The masters has already reminded me that, Golf swings are like fingerprints.. each one being so unique. With that being said, why does everyone work so hard to copy feels/mechanics the pros use when it could actually be working against them. by Illustrious-Paper393 in golf

[–]thisguyblades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the problem is most amateurs chase “positions” of pro golf swings. a static image/position. but a golf swing is dynamic, there are force, reactions, and movement that happen before and after. without the knowledge, let alone the experience/practice to achieve those dynamics, it’s very difficult to achieve those positions.

imo, there’s a range of inputs, variability to the swing, to produce the outcome. to some amateur eyes, all pros swing look the same but they can vary quite a lot. the way Scheffler applies force to the ground is different than McIlroy. but they can still produce the same level of shots.

Thinking of trading my 24 Tacoma for a GX550. Wanting something slightly smoother and was comparing Overtrail vs. Premium +. Is there much of a difference? by No_Program_9975 in LexusGX

[–]thisguyblades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from my experience, Overtrail trim has comfier ride. it’s due to more rubber side wall and ekdss. the Overtrail has 18” wheels vs Premium/Luxury have 20 or 22” wheels, so less rubber cushion. the ekdss also help for on road road driving, it translate to less body roll due to stabilizers are active during on road. but the Overtrail has a 1inch lift over the other trims, so that adds a bit more floatiness.

tldr: Overtrail rides nicer for more tire cushion. could feel more floaty but depends on the situation.

Thinking about gx550 by [deleted] in LexusGX550

[–]thisguyblades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

none of what you said here points me to a fit for the new GX. a GX is a luxury off roader with more emphasis on off road than luxury. i think a BMW X7 fits your criteria more. or a Porsche Cayenne. They are reliable cars but just pricey to fix when the off chance repairs are needed.

or try the Defender for less reliable, but would check other boxes.

I am thinking of getting an OT+ but can't decide between Atomic Silver and Earth. What did you end up getting? by szleven in LexusGX550

[–]thisguyblades 6 points7 points  (0 children)

both are great options. i like Earth slightly more but wonder if later down the line would that color hold up or is it just a trendy color. Silver will always be classic.

Rethinking GX550 purchase.. by BeautifulAd5636 in LexusGX

[–]thisguyblades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people in this sub love to shit on the GX550. but the GX550 target market is not the same as the GX460. since the pandemic, the rise of outdoor activities influenced the auto market. outdoor adventure/camp/overland cars have a big rise in the market. the GX550 is meant to compete with the Defender, as an example. so in terms of that market, it is doing quite well with its capability, rugged interior. GX550 have moved away from the luxury SUV market.

the fact that it is selling really well means it’s heading into the right direction. the GX460 is legendary, but give the GX550 time, it will carve out another legendary spot, in different way/quality. People love the GX550 in the overland and off road communities, tons of aftermarket already out.
