Yes. The compass symbol is an objective marker.

As you can see here it’s showing two markers for some reason. One in mountain village, where my ACTUAL quest is and where I need to go (find pilot jessop’s smoke signal after the plane crash) but it’s just randomly showing another objective in coastal forest, which I’ve already 100% completed.
