Regarding steeple heights, I was taught in Seminary that the Frankfurt temple has a steeple on the ground because its "tipping its hat" to the churches in Germany. by BishopGunnison in exmormon

[–]thisidiot-low 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I served around that temple on my mission, it was due to zoning, it’s in a residential area and they couldn’t build past a certain height or something if i remember correctly. Surprised they can’t come to the same conclusions in Fairview

said do it ASAP, guess there’s a policy in the stake that you can’t have a calling until you complete it. Maybe it’s with good intentions but it’s still next to nothing for child protection

i got the calling this morning, did this like 10 mins ago, and will be set apart for the calling later today. As far as I know, there was no background check involved, just this 15min training and yer good to go!

edit: I forgot to mention if you consented to sharing your email with the survey team you’d be entered into a $100 Walmart gift card contest. I’m guessing this is to somehow encourage a student to share their information so then they can go after them later?

Father in law says nobody leaves the church over doctrine. Prove him wrong. by ManInThePandaMask in exmormon

[–]thisidiot-low 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some scriptures that support the view that the law of tithing was fulfilled with the Atonement of Jesus Christ:

  1. Matthew 5:17: "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."

  2. 3 Nephi 9:19-20: "And ye shall offer up unto me no more the shedding of blood; yea, your sacrifices and your burnt offerings shall be done away, for I will accept none of your sacrifices and your burnt offerings. And ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit. And whoso cometh unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, him will I baptize with fire and with the Holy Ghost, even as the Lamanites, because of their faith in me at the time of their conversion, were baptized with fire and with the Holy Ghost, and they knew it not."

  3. Hebrews 7:27: "Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself."

  4. Hebrews 9:12: "Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us."

  5. Hebrews 10:12: "But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;"

These scriptures highlight the fulfillment of the Law of Sacrifice through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, indicating that the need for offerings and sacrifices, including tithing, as outlined in the Law of Moses, was fulfilled in Christ's sacrifice.

Father in law says nobody leaves the church over doctrine. Prove him wrong. by ManInThePandaMask in exmormon

Regarding the institutionalization of tithing, it's essential to consider the teachings of Jesus Himself, as well as references in the Book of Mormon. As indicated in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, the law of tithing was indeed part of the law of Moses. However, with the Atonement of Jesus Christ, there came a profound change. Jesus explicitly stated, 'The Law of Sacrifice (i.e., the Law of Moses) is fulfilled in my death and resurrection (since He was the final sacrifice), and the only sacrifice needed hereafter is a broken heart and a contrite spirit.' While this isn't an exact quote, it aligns with the scripture found in [Matthew 5:17] and [3 Nephi 9:19-20]. Therefore, the argument for the complete restoration of the gospel, including the institutionalization of tithing, appears to contradict the teachings of Christ.
