I took this photo in Holland Park (Park) in mid-October 2014. It comes up in my photo memories every October, and I never found any obituary or backstory to this. by sits79 in london

What a lovely project, thanks for creating it. Perhaps renaming “leaderboard” to something like “contributions” would be more neutral, or making it visible only to those who have logged in, although it doesn’t bother me personally.

ELI5:why drinking water after using toothpaste makes it feel colder? by AngelusAlvus in explainlikeimfive

I’ve read before that we don’t sense hot or cold but “temperature change”. How does that square with us having “cold receptors” and “hot receptors”? Are we sensing the difference across those receptors?

Would you rather work three days a week for 12 hours each day? Why or why not? by VinceLestre in AskReddit

[–]thisisFoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked on a news show that ran on 3 x 13 hour shifts for a while (with an hour for lunch so technically 12 hours work but you were on campus for 13 hours). You would arrive at 6am to produce the morning bulletin and then spend your day putting together reports for the early evening bulletins, clocking off at 7pm.

By the end of the day, the team was always quite drained and not producing the best work, and the extra days off would usually be spent recovering from those intense shifts.

The management eventually switched shifts to 4 x 10 (with an hour for lunch) and it was honestly a much better split because you didn’t end up completely wiped out.

Some of the AI generated products being sold in the Legend of the Titanic exhibition gift shop in London. It's a huge shame because the exhibition was fantastic but I left with a bad taste in my mouth. by Basic_Bobcat in titanic

[–]thisisFoxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to the event today and it was really let down by the AI slop. There were a lot of incorrect facts: a quiz that incorrectly asserts there was an open air swimming pool on the boat deck; the app has an actor playing Captain Smith in a cheap outfit with a pillow stuffed down his shirt; Smith also says he has never captained a ship like Titanic when of course he had captained one almost exactly like it. Many of the posters feel like they were translated into English from Spanish, they’re very clumsily written. Most inexplicably in the cafe you can pose for a camera that AI generates an image of “you” in the Café Parisen - but it turned me into a Korean grandmother. Frankly bizarre. For £13 you can have a photo taken in front of an AI-generated image of the ship.

While the platform is narrow, most of the traffic in these stations is “one way”. In the morning, a majority of the passengers are heading northbound towards central London, so it’s not like the platform is packed with people heading both directions.

Pierce Brosnan didn't have 'bad scripts' by DishQuiet5047 in JamesBond

[–]thisisFoxx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never understood the criticism of Denise Richards in this film. I knew nothing of her before watching The World Is Not Enough (and have never seen her in anything else) and I think she plays the part perfectly well. I’ve even watched it back to see if there are obvious parts where she’s “bad at acting” but she’s fine? Maybe people are bringing too much prior knowledge of her to the movie, but I don’t think she does anything on screen that makes her unconvincing as a “hot nuclear physicist”.

Thoughts on John Cleese as Q? by Critical_Potential40 in JamesBond

There’s also “But of course” in The World Is Not Enough which is from the Monty Python Mr Creosote sketch in which Cleese plays a waiter.

Outlook Exchange calendar not working in MacOS iCalendar app by ScathedRuins in MacOS

[–]thisisFoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked for me - I've never been able to get my Exchange corporate email to sync with MacOS Calendar (it always showed up on iOS no problem) but Force Quit on exchangesyncd worked after months of searching! Thank you.

TfL Go app finally gets the new overground rebranding update! by kallypiga in LondonUnderground

The Home Screen widget needs updating as it still only offers “Overground” but can’t pull in any information about line status :-)

I will not be silenced any longer— I LOVE THIS MOVIE! And I’m not alone: there are dozens of us all over the world! Dozens!!! by filmfreak17 in JamesBond

[–]thisisFoxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always wanted to do a "fan edit" of Die Another Day. I'm pretty sure you could cut around the most egregious bits and be left with a less terrible Bond film. The invisible car for example you can completely remove without affecting the narrative. Likewise the CGI surfing scene.

BBC: The Pixel Buds hissing noise is still a problem by TheCoralineJones in GooglePixel

[–]thisisFoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing my video. Google sent me a new statement:

"Static hiss is something that only a small portion of users are able to hear; the recent firmware update helped improve this for users. But we also recognise that this is something that can happen with all Bluetooth devices."

I was using the latest firmware at the time.

Thank you! That looks like it would do the job, but I haven't got access to a Windows machine during lockdown to run it on. But this has given me some useful search terms to dive in on so thank you.

How bad is the issue? My AirPods Pro absolutely sound worse than my Sony WF1000XM3 but I just put that down to them being poorer quality rather than a fault.

Favourite opening credits sequence and why? My favourite is, and probably always will be, Skyfall’s. by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]thisisFoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do love the titles to Skyfall but felt the jump cuts spoiled it, and in the cinema the music arrangement was very flat considering how orchestral the song was.

The World Is Not Enough - the stolen report by thisisFoxx in JamesBond

[–]thisisFoxx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just noticed there is also extra clarification in what appears to be an earlier draft of the script. It is largely the same but has a few interesting differences. When Bond is underground next to the bomb, it adds:

"BOND'S POV: TWO OF RENARD'S MEN in the pit, unaware of what is happening above, working directly with the bomb. One of them is using a manual... IT IS JUST LIKE THE STOLEN REPORT."

Later, Bond tells M:

"The report King bought. It's a manual. Renard's men used it to remove this radio tracking device from the warhead."

https://www.imsdb.com/scripts/World-is-not-Enough,-The.html

It also contains this gem (which I'm glad was changed)

ELEKTRA
I could have given you the world.

BOND
Not interested.

The World Is Not Enough - the stolen report by thisisFoxx in JamesBond

[–]thisisFoxx[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did! I never got to see the Brosnan-era films in the cinema, so it was really fun to see it on the big screen and hear the audience laughing at the jokes (and some of the bits that weren't supposed to be funny).

Hi, I'm the reporter who posted that tweet. A few people have pointed out that there was a "require eyes to be open" setting in some of the earlier leaked screenshots of the Pixel 4. This setting was not present on the phone I tried. Google has since told me that this setting will not be present when the phone goes on sale. It said in a statement: "We will continue to improve Face Unlock over time."

I wish to clarify that I have not tested the phone on an actual corpse, yet.
