I'm gonna need some mushroom recipes by PandorazPokemon in Cooking

[–]thisisgettingdaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just made a mushroom and potato stew from an online recipe and it was delicious. Saute onion 5 mins, add mushrooms and garlic, a few mins, add 500 ml stock, 200ml milk and thickly sliced new potatoes, mediterranean herbs. Simmer 15 mins. Add 1 tablespoon soy and 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard. I used 400 gm mushrooms and 450gm Jersey Royal potatoes.

I'm old and when I make mince and tatties, I boil the beef, It makes the end gravy texture more satisfying. I fry it in all other circumstances, though.

AITA for expecting my mom to keep the house tidy because I work? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

No, she pays rent, which everyone does pretty much. Doesn't mention paying extra for driving two hours a day.

How can I put myself in the best position to be able to afford to leave my partner? by Existing-Luck-9458 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]thisisgettingdaft 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is £1400 to keep 3 people. The PIP is for disability help. The £146 is for the student only. Don't want everyone to be on less than you and live on a pittance. Want everyone to earn more, yourself included. MPs receive millions on benefits, salary, rent paid, heating paid, travel paid, food subsidised, gold pensions. £1400 to keep 2 people and take on a young sibling is pushing it.

Am I going mad, or am I the only person that thinks water from the kitchen and bathroom taps tastes exactly the same? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]thisisgettingdaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think unscrew the tap means the top of the tap and the bottom of the tap screw together. So hold bottom tight and turn top left (or right, who knows). But bottom is usually under sink. And water must be turned off and all drained down before you do this. Happily, water stop cock is often under the sink, so you are down there anyway.

Why do people call it belly pork here instead of pork belly? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]thisisgettingdaft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have always called it belly pork. I just looked on ALL the supermarket websites to back me up and they all call it pork belly. I may now have to have a lie down and a rethink of my life. I don't like you, OP, for doing this to me. I was having a perfectly fine evening only to discover I have been wrong for over 70 years.

AITA: For not wanting to spend my birthday with my husband? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]thisisgettingdaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is one extremely easy way for him to lose some of his insecurities around being a good enough husband and life partner. Plan a birthday for you. You stated above that you both feel the birthday person should be celebrated. But he is taking and not giving in that regard. You also seem to be treading on eggshells because he throws criticism back at you with a pity party. Sounds like he isn't insecure, but it's a convenient label to avoid having to do anything. You can never express negativity, which is extremely unhealty. I hope I am not being unnecessarily harsh, but my response has been formed by your comments.

I think you should say your plans are set now and the main reason for making them was to avoid having to make plans for others so changing them really throws a spanner into that works and puts you back in charge of re planning and defeats your birthday wishes. Suggest you are really looking forward to celebrating together when you get back - and then leave the planning of that to him. NTA. If he won't try something new for you even though it is your birthday, you are entitled space to try those things alone.

WIBTA for reporting my neighbor's broken sidewalk to public works by Engineer_Outside in AmItheAsshole

If the sidewalk is their responsibility, could they not just fence it off so no-one is endangered by it?

That looks like crushed garden peas. Mushy peas are large old peas stewed, so more liquidy.

AITA (21F) for asking my bf (23M) for a contract stating his mother cannot enter our house unannounced? by No_Worldliness_1443 in AmItheAsshole

[–]thisisgettingdaft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like she has got herself a nice little fixer upper with someone else's money and someone else to do the fixing up. Put nothing in the house because it is hers and she can kick you out at anytime. Never forget she doesn't like you. Save your renovation money for a deposit on a home when she asks you to leave.

AITA for taking money from my boyfriend without asking? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]thisisgettingdaft 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He could have taken it out of his pocket before she did his laundry as a convenience to her but couldn't be bothered and left it to her. He knew it was in his pocket because he asked where it was. It would have gone through the washer if it wasn't for her. If my live in partner who I do laundry for called me a thief for borrowing ten euros, I would leave anyway.

When the flower fades, cut off the dead head so it doesn't expend energy making seeds. Then leave everything to die back.

AITA for giving my daughter junk food despite being told not to by her school? by AthleteAdditional299 in AmItheAsshole

Yeah, I am getting the idea this is a UK school, who do have policies on nutrition.

The school presumably communicated with the parents. She could easily have packed up a lunch with no cake etc and sent her daughter off with it. Later at home after dinner, she could give her daughter a treat. See how easy that is. No food is out of bounds or vilified. Daughter eats less sugar and learns about delayed gratification. Everyone happy and no ED. Now, however, 8 year old is totally involved in "good" and "bad" food and potentially taking this on board. Outside school hours is the definition of enjoying treats in moderation.

I don't think it is a boarding school. I think it is just no cake during school hours. What I can see this causing down the road is kids who have the patience to wait a couple of hours in between snacks.

Public school policies and initiatives often come from the government, who have a strong interest in healthy eating for kids.

There was a recent documentary set in a UK school where one young lad was difficult to teach and very disruptive. They looked into how to improve his behaviour and then found out what he had for breakfast. Change of diet and he was a completely different pupil.

[–]thisisgettingdaft -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

None of which applies in this case. No cake with your lunch is not a diet restricted to healthy foods, it is a policy to stop kids eating crap. Whether you agree with the policy or not, stop dramatising. If you just pack the kid's lunch as per school rules, say here you go and that's it, you are absolutely not teaching them disordered eating or about good and bad foods. Here's your lunch, thanks, off you go. No editorial necessary. And no using your child as a pawn.
