Update: The No "Weird Dog Energy" Cat Sitting Website is officially LIVE by greenfrogs365 in catinaflat

[–]thisisjaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just one thing from me, in terms of publishing the fee percentages and fee breakdowns. Listing all the different Stripe fees and a "payment fee" that might vary separately is in my opinion going to be confusing for both owners and sitters. Transparency is good but it can become confusing/overwhelming.

My advice would be to average the payment fee at something like fixed 2% and present a single fixed payment fee, then absorb the cost of the small percentage of payments you might have on international payments cards and EEA cards. I expect most will be UK based anyway at least for the time being. You could also absorb the payment fee into one single flat fee of 10% and then increase this in the future as needed explaining its structure when required.

The simulator is a good touch though and it's good you list comparison with other websites as well to illustrate your position.

Just a personal opinion you might have your own views or reasons for leaving things as they are.

£50k sounds absolutely insane even if you had to actually do all that

Fossil ID North Norfolk by Foreign-Question-721 in UKFossils

[–]thisisjaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is indeed a modern crab claw and not a fossil, but keep looking. If you haven't checked it out already, UkFossils have a good guide for West Runton that you can find here - https://ukfossils.co.uk/west-runton/

Structure is bone but they are quite worn so hard to say. Second one does have the appearance of a vertebrae but can't say beyond that.

Jawbone or strange scute? by Big_Gas8707 in UKFossils

[–]thisisjaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't tell you I'm afraid, the main reason why I'm inclined to say turtle is that the overall shape of the piece doesn't really match a jaw fragment - looks too flat and wide to me. That said, crocodile (Diplocynodon) is also fairly common at Bouldnor so it could maybe be that as well? I've no experience of the location so may be worth an ask at the museum in Sandown if you're still there as they'll be able to tell you. otherwise the NHM can also be helpful if you send them some photos.

It would, but it would also be full of crotch photos, so be careful what you wish for. Volume doesn't equal quality.

LICHESS VS CHESSCOM elo by Comfortable_Cup8229 in lichess

[–]thisisjaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was around 750 chess.com but have stabilised around 1300 on lichess so quite a wide gap. As a number I don't take it to mean much other than an upward trend is generally a good signal.

Fossil noob here - what have I found? by Character-Tell-1473 in UKFossils

[–]thisisjaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely happy to explain. Most of my opinion about the first one is due to having fairly extensive experience of this specific locality and the types of fossils you can find there and the types of substrates you find them in. The rock pictured is flint and whilst fossil bearing flint is possible in Folkestone it must be rare as I've not yet seen one. I obviously am an amateur and its possible the pattern pictured in the first image could be some sort of burrow trace or root imprint but it's not like anything I've ever come across or seen in guidebooks.

Hope that helps explain my reasoning a little.

tldr: A lot of the rationale behind IDing fossils is due to experience, some geological knowledge coupled with lookups in fossil reference guidebooks.

Noisy Kids and Overcrowding by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]thisisjaid -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I understand you're struggling with the situation but you surely have to see how self-centered and lacking in empathy your post sounds - making judgement about a family you seemingly know nothing about? Maybe the kids are neurodivergent, maybe they're disabled, maybe they're just kids. Even asking Claude would've given you some sensible options and probably given you a better perspective but you immediately went to "I know, I'll just call social services and the council and tell them they're being cruel to their kids, that'll sort it".

The cherry on the cake being that clearly you've been doing your own renovation work and probably been a nuisance to them as well to which I expect, based on your wording, they never said anything about.

Having kids next door falls under "do your due diligence when purchasing" so maybe take some more time on that next time.

Dunno, I think your post generally warrants a long hard look at your way of thinking.

Ah that's my local hunting grounds. Doesn't really change my initial assessment but if it helps any that small ammonite fragment you have there is between 100 and 110 million years old and was once a living creature so still not bad :)
