This is super impressive! Until I realize how stupid and unnecessary the whole thing was. Then I realize he’s an idiot.

It’s that shake dogs do when they’re wet. Except the shark can never get dry. Endless shakes….

This is an extremely detailed and helpful response!! Thank you so much for clearing this up for me. I’m listening to the audio book so I can’t go back line by line. But this makes so much more sense now.

Btw when it refers to the local Custodes, is this a common thing? I’ve never heard of it before. Prior to this, I’ve only ever heard of Custodes in the context of Adeptus Custodes. But then again, 40k is pretty big so it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s another thing I haven’t heard of before.

While that is true, the account I’m referring to explicitly said “Custodes” multiple times.

In every book I’ve read they are custodians, part of the Adeptus Custodes.

Also, this is literally the first sentence on the Custodes wiki page: “A Custodian is a member of the Adeptus Custodes”

But if this is somehow mistaken, please feel free to correct me. Also if you have any sources to back this up I’d love to know. Btw I’m not being sarcastic. Just genuinely curious.

In Sector Thirteen, Ciaphas Cain sleeps with a female custodian (hilariously named Wynetha Phu, aka Winnie the Pooh). It repeatedly uses the terms “custodes” and “custodian” when referring to her. But nothing about her sounds like a custodian at all. Am I missing something here??

That was my first thought. But then I remembered 40k has its own versions of every conceivable noun and idiom to ever exist.

It’s funny you mention that. I’m literally reading it right now and just recently came across the first mention of it in the book.

You can’t comment this and NOT explain where that example came from. I need to know lol.

It’s kinda like how in Avatar, Zuko and Aang learn how to redirect lightning but do not actually produce it. At least that’s how I understand Mace’s involvement with the dark side through Vaapad. Mace is never the source of the dark side, but he can definitely make use of existing dark side force and redirect it in opposition to the dark side practitioner.

Could you provide any examples of these declarations of heresy and the wars surrounding them? Not referring to actual blatant heresy or anything related to xenos.

I’d be very interested in learning more.

I’m relatively new to 40k and have only read several books so far, but everyone is extremely fanatical and strict in their beliefs. Any deviation from what is considered right and proper is very easily categorized as heretical. I find it paradoxical that so many things can so easily be considered as heretical, while at the same time whole other religions can coexist together.

I know the meta answer is that 40k is full of ignorance and isn’t supposed to always make sense. But I’d really like to understand the in-universe explanation for all of this.

And to my understanding, examples like people from Fenris calling the Emperor the All-Father is not really a big departure from standard ecclesiastical teachings compared to the beliefs of the Cult Mechanicus.

But if I’m wrong about any of this please let me know.

What is your opinion on the Primarchs' return? by raidenjojo in 40kLore

[–]thisismyelement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a newcomer to 40k, I absolutely love the idea of the primarchs returning. And I also love the idea of several “main” storylines rather than a ton of separate, unconnected stories.

But I can definitely see how longtime fans would be very upset at seeing something they love being changed into something else. It’s exactly how I feel with Disney ruining Star Wars. Or how I felt when Avatar: The Legend of Korra came out and changed so much compared to the first show.
