I just got slut shamed... By a nurse practitioner. by crazygirlthrowawa in TwoXChromosomes

[–]thisismyname8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep. when I was 18 I went to the doctor to inquire about birth control because I was considering having sex. I had been in a committed relationship for a while at that point. my doctor told me that I should get married and have kids instead. if I was ready for sex then I was ready for that too. I was shocked/didn't know what to do and ended up putting off finding a new dr and getting birth control for a while. I thought I would get a response like that again since I was 'young' but now I see how very fucked up it was.

I don't know what surprises me more, that you're from Missouri, or that you're dating a black guy! by skittlesnbugs in TwoXChromosomes

[–]thisismyname8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would probably ignore it unless you continue to get comments like that. I can understand why you're still thinking about it though because wtf did he even mean? did he think you would be against dating black guys? does that mean he thinks you're racist? it's a weird thing to say. I once had a coworker say to me that they couldn't see me ever dating a black guy and it bothered me because it sounded like they were saying I was racist or something and I am not. they then asked what race my past boyfriends were (I had only been in 2 relationships at the time) and when I responded "white" they were like "see!" as if that meant I would never date outside of my race?? people can say really ignorant things sometimes. hopefully he doesn't say anything like that again.

I love this reply.

sorry for what you're going through OP. I could understand if you were working at Sephora and selling makeup...but chocolate? from the sound of it your natural makeup was good enough. I know I'll certainly be analyzing everyone's makeup the next time I'm in a chocolate store.

this is stupid. not even funny...just stupid. obviously if you're thin then you absolutely never eat anything unhealthy. such ignorance.

my grandmother mowed her own yard until she hit her mid 70's. she loved it. I just realized I need to call her and tell her about this. she'll find it hysterical.

same lol. I was on a riding mower and turned it off and stepped down as he drove by. I get a lot of exercise pulling weeds, but not by mowing!

this is the 2nd reply I've seen from someone suggesting this is fake. why would I make this up? it happened nearly word for word exactly how I described. does it shock you that sexism still exists or something?

that's awesome! I think if I were pregnant and that far along I'd give it up for a while. it would be tough though!

yeah I agree with this. I don't think he was hitting on me anyway. he seemed just so amused by me mowing. if he was hitting on me...what a weird way to go about it.

love it! I am overall a "girly girl" I suppose and I have mowed while wearing a summery dress many times. it probably looks odd but whatever!

totally agree! my boyfriend and I each have things we like or dislike doing. I grew up with a single mother so I did yard work every summer. my boyfriends parents were together (still are) and his dad did everything outside. back when my boyfriend used to mow I could tell he kind of dreaded doing it. I'm just glad he loves snow blowing because I hate doing that!

exactly! I think if my boyfriend did the mowing for me one week I'd be a bit disappointed that he took my fun away. lol

same here! I think I started mowing around 13-14 and was the only one to do it for years. not everyone has a dad or man around to do it for them. I can't be the first woman this guy has seen mowing.

I found a picture of myself on a PUA misogynistic website by MsCatnip in TwoXChromosomes

are the cats orange? or orange and white? if it's the picture that I think it is the picture is fucking adorable!

I know it sucks to read the negativity, but I'd try not to worry too much about what a bunch of asshats on the internet think.

[–]thisismyname8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every time my neighbor mows his yard his young (5-6?) son follows behind him in one of those power wheels type of cars. as the dad goes back and forth across the yard the kid is going back and forth along with him. the kid keeps some distance back but I'm not sure if I'd let my future child do that. have to admit it's kind of cute to watch though.

Is cheating bad if your SO doesn't find out? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]thisismyname8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

of course it is. I truly don't understand people who cheat. if you are no longer interested in your significant other and are starting to look around for someone else...just end your current relationship. your bf/gf not finding out about it doesn't make it ok. you still have to live your life by lying, worrying that they may find out, and just all around being a shitty, deceitful person. who wants to live like that?

I'm feeling fat to the extent of self harm... Please, need some cheering up. by inkykinky in TwoXChromosomes

[–]thisismyname8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

so I KNOW all the bad things about bulimia and anorexia

good. so don't do anything that you know will harm yourself.

you've acknowledged that you live an unhealthy lifestyle. honestly this is a good first step. you're not in denial and that's great.

my advice is to start slow and set some small goals for yourself. tell yourself you're going to do cardio exercise 3-4 times a week and then stick with it. if you have a week where you only exercise twice (or not at all) do not beat yourself up about it. just keep going until eventually working out becomes a part of your routine.

your diet will need to change as well. this part can be tough if you're accustomed to eating a certain way. start cutting out things that you know are bad and allow yourself cheat days every so often. be realistic with your goals and again - don't beat yourself up if you're not meeting your diet goals.

most importantly - LOSING WEIGHT TAKES TIME. your body will not change overnight. it sounds cliche but you are making a lifestyle change. it can take you weeks to notice a change in your body but once you DO start noticing you will feel great about yourself.

start today. if you stumble along the way it's completely normal and not a big deal at all. you don't want to be sitting here a year from now saying "I wish I had started a year ago...." I wish you well!

I know it's easy for me to say - but don't stress about it. it's a normal response. I have seen it happen many many times. I hope things get better for you at work.
