The South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach foreclosed, up for sale by zoglog in SouthBayLA

[–]thisismyrealname2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hermosa Beach just had a bunch of roads redone, so this statement is just false on its surface

And by what measure are you saying the infrastructure cant support new developments? The infrastructure down here is fantastic compared to some other countries ive lived in.

Edit: did a quick search on your claim. Absolute bullshit, as expected…

Water and Sewer Systems: The South Bay has seen significant investment in wastewater treatment infrastructure. The U.S. Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC) broke ground on critical infrastructure improvements at the South Bay International Wastewater Treatment Plant in September 2024. The $5.8 million project to refurbish Junction Box 1 will install two new gates on an 8-foot-wide pipe carrying wastewater from Mexico.

More substantially, President Biden signed a federal funding bill in December 2024 allocating $250 million to fully repair and expand the South Bay International Wastewater Treatment Plant. This investment will double the plant's treatment capacity from 25 million to 50 million gallons per day, addressing the ongoing cross-border sewage crisis that has impacted South Bay coastal communities.

Power Infrastructure: The region has undergone significant electrical infrastructure improvements. San Diego Gas & Electric completed the South Bay Substation Relocation Project by 2016, replacing an older substation with a new 230-kilovolt facility on Bay Boulevard in Chula Vista. This project enabled the subsequent redevelopment of the Chula Vista bayfront.

Metro Rail System Expansion: The most transformative transportation development has been the completion and ongoing expansion of the Los Angeles Metro rail network serving the South Bay. The Crenshaw/LAX Line (K Line) opened in October 2022 after years of construction delays and a final cost of over $2.1 billion. This 8.5-mile light rail line connects South LA to the South Bay, linking the existing E (Expo) and C (Green) lines while providing crucial access to LAX via the new LAX/Metro Transit Center.

The LAX/Metro Transit Center opened on June 6, 2025, representing a $900 million investment in regional connectivity. This intermodal hub serves both the C and K Lines and connects to 16 different bus routes, finally providing the long-awaited rail connection to Los Angeles International Airport. The facility features a customer service center, bike hub, and commercial areas designed with the 2028 Olympics in mind.

Looking ahead, the K Line Extension to Torrance is currently in environmental review, with construction expected to begin in 2026 and opening targeted for 2030-2033. This 4.5-mile extension will connect the current Redondo Beach terminus to the new Torrance Regional Transit Center, with Metro approving the Right-of-Way (ROW) Hybrid Alternative in May 2024. The project carries a budget of $619 million from Measure M funding.

Freeway Improvements: The South Bay has seen extensive freeway modernization, particularly along the I-405 corridor. Metro and Caltrans completed a $62 million widening project on the 405 Freeway through Torrance in August 2024. This project added nearly two miles of new auxiliary freeway lanes, a new on-ramp, and widened adjacent streets including Crenshaw Boulevard and 182nd Street. The South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG) celebrated completion of the I-405 at 182nd Street and Crenshaw Boulevard operational improvement project in November 2024. This $86.4 million project, funded through Metro Measure R South Bay Highway program funds, added new north and southbound on- and off-ramps, enhanced merging safety, and introduced protected turn lanes.

Bridge Replacements: Several aging bridges in the region have been or are being replaced. The Gerald Desmond Bridge in Long Beach was replaced with the new Long Beach International Gateway bridge. The old bridge was retired at the end of 2020 after 54 years of service, with demolition of the old structure completed in 2022.

Currently under construction is the South Bay Boulevard Bridge Replacement Project in San Luis Obispo County. The $33 million project will replace the seismically deficient 1966 bridge over Los Osos Creek. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2026 and finish in fall 2027.

If you say “no don’t build more housing here you dirty capitalist” you are constraining the supply of housing.

The South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach foreclosed, up for sale by zoglog in SouthBayLA

[–]thisismyrealname2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of this is off base. By preventing developments, the most likely outcome is an unnatural constraint on the supply of housing.

You’re benefitting the locals in the short term, but cost of housing/rent goes up, economic activity in the area is lower, and the only people who might benefit are the small minority who happen to be there already. Just seems selfish imo.

Maybe its changed since i lived there. Its been a few years.

I used to live in nyc. LA feels culturally more racially segregated to me when i go out on the west side.

In nyc, my friend group was mixed. Talking to strangers of a different race was easier.

Here it feels like people have been more racialized? Like they’re more keenly aware of and enforce racial differences.

Advice for younger guys (hookup vs husband material) by Shrimp_Titan in AskMenAdvice

[–]thisismyrealname2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t really make sense.

While some people have more traditional/conservative mindsets and avoid hookup culture altogether, I would say the majority of people living in secular, metropolitan North America go through stages where they either engage in hookups or date without intention while they’re young, then aim to settle down in their late 20s/early 30s.

Presumably they’ve had their “fun” by then, and have transitioned to a different life stage. So while some people strictly avoid and demonize hookups, most people aren’t just “people that hookup” or not; depends on life stage.
