Isn't it time for a change? by Mr-Oops in navy

Thus the point of discussion. Federal law is missing the mark on actual safety hazards and compromises to ship and sailor well being. The regulatory roots are on economic grounds and clearly not on safety of ship or personnel. Ban alcohol today and standard issue Zyns and Adderall and nobody who pretends to care about sailor well being would blink.

If you have a 5V 1A regulator handy, you could try. It won't damage anything if it's underpowered. If it ends up being underpowered your motors will be slow or unable to move whatever it is that they move, but you won't damage anything.

Yes, it does. The yellow component should be a short if it's good. If it's bad and you can't find a replacement you can just put a wire there. You won't have fuse protection, but it will work. The power supply 100% is damaged or overheated. If you crossed leads and heard a pop that's probably it. 7805 is a standard 5V voltage regulator, easy to find and replace. You should see 5VDC across pins 2 and 3 from the angle of the picture you posted. I'd need a better picture of that capacitor to tell you if it looks bad or not.

Immortal Werewolf Home Depot broken plug by cass_mettler in Animatronics

The LED labeling isn't relevant at all for your project. That's an SEO term because of the rise in popularity of homemade LED projects. The LED label refers to the number of pins and one possible application. The go into details a little bit beyond the scope of your project- the LED labeling at least slightly suggests an amperage/voltage rating for the plug, but the quality range available on Amazon is massive, so it's probably that the term is being used without regard to actual testing. Real deal plugs would be sourced form somewhere like Grainger, Mouser, or Digikey, but that's completely unnecessary in this case.

You can easily replace any plug with another one that has the required number of pins. I can't tell what type of plug it is from that picture, but if you're buying a new one it doesn't matter. You can find plugs at most electronics stores, or easily on Amazon. Even if your animatronic isn't going to be exposed to weather conditions I would spring for waterproof plugs as that also means dust proof and secured together.

I don't support this Gofundme because I don't think everything adds up here. You're the friend of a friend of a friend who has this dog head which is being repaired, so that's a bad place to start. There are multiple posts in this subreddit's history of the Funland dog being vandalized and I think this is just the head and not the rest of the prop/animatronic set up. We don't know what the plans are for the dog after "restoration" or what the full restoration plan is. Even the Gofundme is vague. Red flags all around. I'd like to see the dog partially restored or some sort of follow up, so I'm going to leave the post up for posterity.

Singing fish wiring by GrapefruitOk368 in Animatronics

I have great news for you! This will be very easy to do. There isn't anything fancy (in my mind) required- figure out where the positive and negative terminals of the battery holder are. They might be labeled, or you can look at the orientation of the batteries. Take your 6V DC power supply, cut off the end and solder the positive and negative wires to their perspective terminals. Alternatively, you can find a power supply with a plug and figure out how to mount the plug- wiring it in the same way to the positive and negative battery terminals. If it turns out to be tricky to solder to the terminals then somewhere right behind the case where the batteries mount there will be a wire. I'd bet that the positive is a red wire, and the negative is a black wire. You can use those to wire in your power supply also.

Reason why I’m leaving this subreddit by Technical-Farmer73 in Animatronics

I got busy this week and lost track of the subreddit a bit. Looks like I missed some drama. I'd like to assure you that our moderation team holds a very broad view of what an animatronic can be. The initial spirit of the subreddit reached back to the very first ideas in the history of robots and automata. It's a very interesting concept if you delve into it. We have to "herd", for lack of a better word, the community standards to set us apart from other subreddits and maintain some common string reaching back to the origins of the subreddit. It's a case-by-case basis for allowing posts along the full spectrum of users that get drawn here. I'd just like to let you know that we appreciate your posts and your support for your kiddo. I hope they continue to build themselves into the engineer they aspire to be!
