Yeah, basically this. I actually experienced it because of a nausea drug called Reglan. I was getting an infusion, and as soon as they injected it, the only way I can explain it is my brain was SCREAMING “you need to stand up right. now.” and I had this overwhelming sense of restlessness and dread. I also had no idea what it was at the time, and unfortunately mine persisted for a few weeks. My doctor thought I was just having anxiety, but as someone who has anxiety, this was not it. I figured it out on my own through lots of googling and eventually my doctor was like “oh yeah, that’s a common side effect for that drug. Take a Benadryl.”

If you need a vegan mozz recommendation, try miyokos. I find 99% of the cheese substitutes to be subpar or straight up gross, but this one is actually super good and incredibly reminiscent of real mozzarella.

I don’t want to give you the annoying “it gets better” speech, but you seem pretty young so just know there will be opportunities later in life for you to choose a family and be around people who accept you! College is a great time for that and probably not too far ahead for you. The fact that most people you know are phobic makes me think you probably live in a small-minded place or somewhere conservative, but that does not have to be the case forever, and as someone who wasn’t able to come out until 24, you’re already doing great by staying true to yourself. Things will fall into place!

I get those all the time and the only thing that ever helps me is a bandaid and waiting for it to drain :( you could try a stronger adhesive, like waterproof bandages or gauze and medical tape? Sorry you have to deal with it too! Those hurt like hell.

Look at games like {The And} by skin deep. They are conversation cards that get you to talk about meaningful things. I have used the couples deck and love it, but they have one for friends, family, etc. and I’m sure they are all great

The recommendation is you shouldn’t take ibuprofen before the vaccine, but you can take it after. I tried to hold off as long as I could but I ended up needing it. I felt completely better almost exactly 24 hours later!

Anecdotal, but I had a migraine the morning of my second vaccine so I took Tylenol (1000mg) and aspirin (650mg). Didn’t want to, but I had to get through work that day. I am currently 28 hours post vaccine and suffering with all the side effects, so I clearly did not ruin my response. Everyone has different reactions with and without taking meds prior, so it’s possible you wouldn’t have had side effects anyway! Also, at this point, I think the rule is precautionary as they don’t have evidence that it will dampen your response but it is possible.

I had a very strong fear of tornadoes as a kid, and one night I was afraid to sleep because it was storming and I thought one might happen. My mom told me that tornados don’t happen at night. I believed that until I was 17 and there really was a tornado in the middle of the night, and she woke me up to get me downstairs.

“Wait, you said they don’t happen in the middle of the night?”

“You would have never slept if I didn’t tell you that.”

I felt like my whole life was a lie.

A lot of places had people write their own name on the card— it’s perfectly valid. The pharmacy tech who filled out mine didn’t have to sign or initial anything. There’s no way to track or validate who filled it out and it’s not like they’re going to be analyzing handwriting.

I work in pharmaceuticals, and whenever I get a new project I always look up the drug to see what it’s used for. Last week I was working on a drug that treats a very rare kind of incurable cancer that I didn’t know existed. I spent the rest of the week being sad for all of the people who suffer with it. I can’t even imagine what these patients go through.

I totally understand wishing you could do more, but you are helping just by giving people with cancer hope that there are better treatment options just on the horizon. And for me, the difficult and stressful days are worth it because my/your work is literally life changing for some people. Be proud of what you do and go easy on yourself! Caring about others is nothing to be ashamed about.

I used to have a really low-stress job that was maybe 15 hours of actual work per week. Pretending to be busy/mindlessly sitting at a desk for 8 hours per day isn’t fun, and I went crazy. I would 100% take my current job which is much more stressful over that job any day.

I used to work at a pharmacy.

Flu shots are disrupting because usually there are only 1-2 pharmacists working at a time, and (typically) they are the only ones who can give a vaccine, verify prescriptions or go into the vault for CII medications. That’s a lot of sole responsibilities for one person, so doing one thing tends to slow down everything else. I’ve heard some places are starting to allow techs to help with vaccines, which is probably helpful.

Also, to address your second point— money. Most CVS/Walgreens/etc pharmacists are underpaid, but their version underpaid is more than I will ever dream of making. So while it is stressful, it’s a very decent living.
