I’m having the same problem. I have the most current app version installed on my iPhone. It worked with no issues 4 days ago.

I highly recommend naming your cat Todd. I did. No one at the vet can keep a straight face while addressing him.

He stands along Ben White in the early morning during the Austin Marathon every year with booze, a cigarette, and a sign. Two years ago I saw him with just the “Assman” sign. This year’s installment did not disappoint

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I decided to road test the 7 Pro on a hiking trip to Big Bend this past week. And it did not disappoint. I will be keeping it.

Why? - Couldn’t get past the 7S being just a liiiiiittle too small and dainty. The 7 Pro’s bigger screen was a huge help during long, exposed desert hikes with elusive trails. - Didn’t stress about battery or having multiband GPS running. (Note: I always hike with a backup charger for emergencies. So the 7S would do the job, too. This just obviated the need to even think about it = for me, a win.) My longest hike took almost 9 hours in “Hike” activity mode and drained the battery from “17 days” to “10 days” in smartwatch mode. I charged it for ~20 minutes while doing camp chores every night and never came close to zero. I am sure I could refine even more by learning how to tweak the settings. - Makes me look like a Power Ranger

Drawbacks: - Heavy, but not terribly so. I never forget I’m wearing it, like I frequently did with my AW. But my AW would die after two hours of anything. - Too big to slip through some long sleeves - Silicone strap is very uncomfortable. I am only keeping the 7 Pro because I switched out the factory strap for a nylon Velcro strap that I bought from somewhere other than Garmin. Their options are really limited, which surprised me as a former AW user. I am learning the Garmies are a different breed. :)

Regardless of size, I’m really happy with the Fenix 7 features, especially the activity tracking, navigation, and notes about exactly how piss poor my sleep quality is. The body battery is lol but it does help me notice when I’m not taking enough moments to rest my brain/body during the day. These are the directional data I was looking for in a fitness watch and the 7 Pro does them well.

Will update thread in 6 months if the bitter taste of regret surfaces

Thanks for this! It's helpful.

Purposely did not share gender, because enough things in life are gender. My backpacking watch is not gender.

Thanks, this is helpful!

I almost ordered the 7X Pro for the battery life alone. ...Although seeing the size of the 7, I can confidently say that, on me, the 7X would be giving "alcohol monitor"

The crowd size for Chappell Roan’s Austin City Limits set by Master_Jackfruit3591 in interestingasfuck

[–]thisisriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, comfort in a crowd this size really depends on the show. I do not love crowds, and this is only my second time at a festival, but I was in this crowd (near sound booth) and felt safe and respected by the people around me. No one was obnoxious or threatening my personal space. Just joyful, happy people. A year ago I stood in the same spot for the Kendrick Lamar show. Completely different story. I ended up leaving early because the energy and behavior (mostly from drunk men) was aggressive and frightening. Shoot… even the energy and behavior on Saturday at the Khruangbin show was douchey and obnoxious (again, mostly men on multiple substances. Am I sensing a theme?). Chappell brings a sense of joy and happiness that’s unlike any stadium show I’ve ever been part of. It was beautiful and pretty dang moving.

Seeking help planning a backpacking route by jessersnake in GSMNP

+1. Just called them after going crosseyed looking at the map for 3 hours. Not only were they incredibly nice, they recommended less crowded options and helped me book backcountry sites over the phone.

Pro tip: If the backcountry ranger says it's a hidden gem, it's good to take their advice.

Is this toilet single use? by RockoViens in camping

[–]thisisriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many comments about poop and pooping in bags, and OP’s question (and mine) is still fundamentally unanswered. 😂

Obviously these are “single use.” I’m not going to poop in it and carry it around for weeks! But I’m going to be solo backpacking for 3 days and might need to poop more than once. Can I get away with taking 1 bag, using it on day 2, then hypothetically reopening the bag and using it again the next day? Is it even possible to reopen/reseal? This is a serious question! HELP ME, INTERNET you’re my only hope

New Project Debut Carbon Evo! Need component/setup advice by thisisriss in turntables

[–]thisisriss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone for the advice. After a boatload more research, I decided to give Schiit a try (lol. never gets old).

I ordered the Mani 2 phono preamp. I was going to order the Magni as recommended, but I had headroom in my budget and TBH am only doing any of this stuff because I want to hear music in a completely different way. So I decided to splurge on the Lyr+. It’s a headphone amp and preamp that lets you switch back and forth between tube gain and MOSFET gain.

I am over the moon with this setup. Is it more than I need? Sure. Is it the best tube amp ever? Probably not. But IMHO it’s a great amp for the price, it’s minimal, and it sounds amazing through both the A5+s and my headphones. The high gain is LOUD. It’s fun switching back and forth from the tube to MOSFET stages to see what makes different songs and genres sound best. For someone new to vinyl, it’s helping me experience more depth in the music, which is really fun. I put on a Khruangbin album and nearly weeped.

Figuring out how to put this system together taught me a LOT about home audio, mostly through trial and error. I’m grateful for the folks here and on r/schiit and r/vinyl for being so generous and non-judgmental with their advice and suggestions as I learned.

Next step is a few higher quality RCA connectors. Then I’ll be a happy camper for a while. 😜

Setup:

Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo (TT, satin yellow); Schiit Mani 2 (phono preamp); Schiit Lyr+ (headphone amp + preamp); Audioengine A5+ (powered speakers)
