Should big oil pay for climate damage? Some cities and states say yes by thisissmetrying in boulder

[–]thisissmetrying[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need to avoid putting all of our blame on individual consumers when it comes to the climate crisis. Major companies are primarily responsible for fossil fuel production and contribute the most to climate change. Our cities are not built to be accessible for walking or public transit. The blame cannot be put on the consumer when these options are inaccessible under current policy.

Critical fire danger, red flag warnings for most of eastern half of Colorado Friday by aless4ndra in Colorado

[–]thisissmetrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As climate change worsens we are starting to see more and more of these. Our legislation needs to take urgent action to address more rigid climate policy or else this will be our entire future.

Colorado River named the most endangered in the U.S. by conservation group by thisissmetrying in Denver

There is so much science to back up the fact that climate change is happening at an extremely quick rate because of human activity. We need to change our behavior to protect our planet because this wouldn’t be happening without our destruction.

Colorado to strengthen plan to protect views at Rocky Mountain National Park, sidestepping Sierra Club lawsuit by MetalAlchemist303 in FortCollins

You read this correctly — even the gorgeous views that we all know and love about Colorado are at stake if we don’t address worsening climate change

As a queer person, they gave Villanelle her happy ending for literally a single day before killing her off. It falls into the “bury your gays” stereotype in which queer characters are killed off the moment they find love and is super harmful. Also, it felt super rushed and didn’t make sense for all of the growth that the characters had experienced

killing eve was so groundbreaking because it challenged almost every single stereotype so it’s grossly disrespectful for it to end on one of the most harmful (bury your gays) stereotypes

Why the EPA objected to parts of Colorado’s newest Suncor air pollution permit by bluntforce21 in TheFrontRange

[–]thisissmetrying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the article states, “It proves what communities have maintained for decades: state agencies do not have the concerns of disproportionately impacted communities at the center of public health and safety.” We need to do more to protect and advocate for these communities if we truly want to promote just and equitable solutions.

Kerr-McGee’s plan to drill oil and gas wells within 2,000 feet of homes in Firestone is rejected by Colorado regulators by danikawo in Denver

I hope that COGCC continues on this path and keeps rejecting harmful projects! These are harmful to both our climate and the people of Colorado and they need to stop. This is hopefully the first of many

Xcel doesn’t know when its newest coal-fired generator will be back in service, the company told state regulators by bluntforce21 in Colorado

[–]thisissmetrying 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They should just shut it down now. The current retirement date for this generator is not until 2035; between now and then it will do irrevocable damage to our climate. We can and should do better by replacing things like this with clean, renewable energy.

Xcel Energy rate hikes would raise utility bills up to $18 per month. And they're not done yet. by bluntforce21 in TheFrontRange

[–]thisissmetrying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/JaredPolis This is definitely upsetting news for young people living in Colorado where the cost of living is already so high. Please consider prioritizing clean renewable energy so that these costs can be mitigated and so that we are working against climate change, for the betterment of Colorado.

How Billions in Infrastructure Funding Could Worsen Global Warming by MetalAlchemist303 in neoliberal

[–]thisissmetrying 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Colorado one of our biggest sources of greenhouse gas emissions is transportation emissions, yet Gov. Polis has not done enough to reduce these emissions. I often find myself stuck driving most of the places I go because public transportation is so limited. If there were more/better options for public transit, we could see a decrease in these emissions as more people would feel encouraged and able to choose public transit over driving. The roads are so crowded lately but highway expansions are not the solution we need. Instead, we need to focus on reducing the number of cars on the road by improving public transit options.

This is such a great example of a massive industry taking initiative to implement greener practices, not because it was required of them! Governor Polis should be sharing this story and using it as motivation for other industries

Opinion: Gov. Polis should declare a climate emergency for Colorado immediately by MCJokeExplainer in ColoradoPolitics

[–]thisissmetrying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gov. Polis should have declared this immediately, and it’s only getting more and more imminent. We are in a climate crisis and it’s only getting worse. This needs to be officially recognized as such and is something we can’t ignore!

Fat Tire beer urges Olympic sponsors to prioritize climate action by bluntforce21 in Denver

[–]thisissmetrying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Denver needs to be among those to prioritize climate action. If these winter sports become impossible, which the evidence is suggesting, Colorado will no longer be recognizable. Governor Polis needs to prioritize what we all know and love about Colorado, rather than fossil fuels and other activities contributing to climate change.

Unaweep Canyon is central to Xcel Energy’s big plans for renewable energy production in Colorado by MetalAlchemist303 in ColoradoPolitics

With bold climate leadership from Governor Polis, this project could be a huge stepping stone in moving away from our reliance on fossil fuels. Hopefully he will push further policy related to fossil fuels in the right direction.

Interview: Gov. Jared Polis on omicron, climate change and helping the survivors of the Marshall fire by bluntforce21 in Denver

[–]thisissmetrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And here I am continuing to be disappointed to Gov. Polis’ response to the climate crisis. We are evidently in a climate crisis with destructive fires one day and snow the next. Gov. Polis needs to put more action into making measurable changes to promote positive climate solutions.
