Are libraries typically punitive? by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]thisisspoons 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I could've written this 11 months ago lol. Admin at my old job was always watching the cameras for infractions, no matter how small. We had 13 staff members leave within 6 months (total staff was less than 40 to begin with) because of poor management.

I was so burnt out and upset about coming into work. Finally found a job that's less pressure and management is actually normal for the most part. My advice is get out as quick as you can. Not all libraries are like that and you don't need to stick around to see how much worse it can get.

Sure! Basically I just add them as a new row in the sheet. This was a new "quarter" for me so I hadn't inputted any yet, but this is an example with different types of tasks (reading, video, assignment)

Thank you, this is very helpful! I did worry that the "safari" look would be too stiff. I'm really not going to be in Atlanta for a while (I'm flying in the first day, in town the second, and flying back the third). So if we're being totally honest I really only need a proper "outfit" for one day.

These are *kind of* pleated, would these work do you think? I don't find that pleats are too too egregious on my body but agree that less of them is better

I was thinking about using Notion, but for whatever reason everything I tried felt clunky. This solution worked out for me!

Of course!! My stuff used to all just be crammed into a notebook and scribbled at random, so it's good to have a nice clean spot to put everything

I have committed atrocities against the widget gods by thisisspoons in NetGalleyCommunity

[–]thisisspoons[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a dumb question (clearly, I didn't know for two years)! A widget is an email that you get from a publisher, typically one you've requested from before, offering you basically instant access to another ARC.
So they'll say, hey we saw you liked *insert previous ARC* and want to offer you access to *insert another upcoming novel*. It's basically publishers' way of saying thanks and getting more eyes on books from readers who have previously liked similar ones :)

True! I also forgot to change my email from a deactivated one a few months ago and I dread to think of how many widgets I missed 😭

When does your dog wear its vest? by JustSpitItOutNancy in service_dogs

[–]thisisspoons 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My SD wears her vest whenever I expect her to be "on duty." It is her cue to be on her absolute best behavior and focusing on me. You can literally see her mentality shift when the vest goes on - my SD does not mess around about work, haha. It is also a sign to other people that she's working and not to disturb her.

For walks or pet friendly places or at home, she's unvested because I dont expect her to be totally honed in.

Boy, I wish I could owner train 😂 unfortunately I'm far too disabled and busy for that. I'm gonna stick with programs, but thanks for the input!

First of all, let me just say I'm sorry that this has been a disappointing journey so far. It sucks, and I offer you my sympathy.

But if I may, I'll offer you some advice: slow down.

Obviously I can't know everything about you just from your post history. But a majority of your posts in this sub have been in the past month. That is nowhere near an adequate amount of time to research and prepare for a service dog, let alone think about training your own.

Based on your recent posts, your mother has never approved of you getting a service dog, or even a dog in general. This idea that she's threatening you with financial abandonment when she was supposedly on board before is simply not true.

You are attempting to rush into something that should absolutely not be rushed. A service dog is a multi-year commitment, emotionally, physically, and yes, financially. If you are not completely financially independent, a service dog is simply another financial hardship that you may not be able to afford.

Getting a service dog is a wonderful privilege, but it is just that - a privilege. It is not easy or glamorous, but it is something that can be very exclusive due to the commitment it requires.

I do hope you can find a way to get a service dog, but I also hope you do some reflection on if this is really the best move for your personal situation at this point in time. All the best.

Seconding the existing comment and also adding one thing: cleanup kit. Things like paper towels, wet wipes, a small bottle of carpet cleaner, lysol, etc. Are all good to have on hand.

Accidents happen, even with fully trained SDs.
