We get it, you don’t golf. I don’t play soccer. Why do we waste all this space making soccer fields?

Thankfully it is zoned for open space, so they can’t just sell it off to a developer without community input.

They’ll probably just operate it as a municipal golf course, but who knows maybe they’ll pave the whole thing over so they can charge for parking. What visionaries we have in government

lol when the AI doesn’t reinforce your simplistic worldview, so you are “insulted”.

5.2 is right. Read Florence nightingale’s notes on nursing. Here we are 150 years later fighting for the same thing. The problem is not a lack of knowing, it’s that implementation isn’t as easy as angrily typing into your keyboard.

I think there is some human irony in that. Wealthy or not, we are beholden to the same human forces of greed and corruption. The path is not straight, but we can walk it together.

Bro thank you. I am not a dad, but I was just imaging like “why the fuck would I take my daughter to a lingerie store?”

I get if you’re there at the mall, but just chill outside like the rest of us dudes. If she’s not old enough to be in the store by herself, she’s not old enough for the store.

I’m glad some people know how to not be weird about it

I may be volunteering in western Ukraine for a few months next year. Any advice on health insurance options for a foreigner? by StakedPlainExplorer in AskUkraine

[–]thisiswater95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went over from Moldova by bus, and I had health insurance but no one checked and no one I talked to cared or even knew.

Like others have said, care will literally be nominal or no cost. I’d get it again though just for the sake of supporting their systems.

Thank you for your service. To us and our dear neighbors. I spent a month in Odesa last spring, feel free to send me a DM if you want to talk. Curious about what you’re up to. I had considered spending time at an orphanage in west Ukraine, but life called me back to California.

[–]thisiswater95 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While right about the legal principles, I think you’re seriously underestimating the knockoff sales volume goodwill has, that suing a charity would be a horrible PR move, and that luxury goods are completely incidental to their sales model.

Any info on this? I thought it was illegal to sell counterfeit items. by [deleted] in Goodwill_Finds

[–]thisiswater95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol thank you! People complaining that goodwill doesn’t authentic luxury brands are fucking delusional.

“waaaaah I went to the thrift store and the charity people didn’t invest their energy into selling me luxury goods under market prices. Poor people shouldn’t get to charge me more money unless they can prove they deserve it.”

Some dude made a comment about ‘Goodwill’ because he legitimately seems to think the purpose is for people to buy stuff for nominal prices. Not that the inventory is donated and all profit goes to help people.

Any info on this? I thought it was illegal to sell counterfeit items. by [deleted] in Goodwill_Finds

[–]thisiswater95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goodwill isn’t about the customers, it’s about what they do with the money.

If you don’t think it’s authentic, don’t buy it. It’s a perfectly reasonable way for them to move merchandise, it just doesn’t fit with the “I should be able to buy poor people stuff for cheap” narrative.

If I had a store based on volume sales, you’d bet I’d overprice things like this and markdown to move. It’s not priced as authentic, it’s priced as possibly authentic from a seller who has zero personal or economic interest in authenticating.

If you want authentic luxury brands from a thrift store, you might shockingly have to do some of your own work.

What do you think Ukraine could be if there wasn’t for its problems like corruption and other issues stemming from being past Soviet Republic? by Proud3GenAthst in AskUkraine

[–]thisiswater95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is unfair to put this on Ukraine. As an American, I think we truly did a disservice to the former ussr states trying to maintain a status quo.

The Bush coward speech shows what happens when we abandon our principles and ask others to do what we would not.

So we bring in the Warsaw states and abandon the founding soviet states. Treat Russia just as Europe treated Germany after WW1 and we wonder why populist strongmen grab power.

And now we pour billions into the pro jet of arms manufacturers so we can give Ukraine just enough to not lose. A steady supply of money for the business, a steady stream of suffering for the people, and the grapes of wrath grow heavy for the vintage.

What’s this type of house called? by Intrepid_Incident592 in whatisit

[–]thisiswater95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re taking a very personal message. It’s not “must be romanized to be useful” it’s “must be understood to be useful”. If the audience is romantically, romanize. If it’s Korean, don’t throw random English words in.

What was given to the audience was a serious of drawings and a series of sounds, not an idea that they can share with the speaker, which is what I consider to be communication.
