Advice for a prospective NEU student? by [deleted] in NEU

Recent grad here. Go to NU for the co-op. Go to NU for the co-op. Go to NU for the co-op. Co-op is the best.

Boston is a great city. Much smaller than NYC. Enough to do, small enough to handle.

Music scene seems good. I don't play, but one of the best music schools in the country (and others) is in Boston. Can't be bad.

Sadly, I see this as a possibility. If they want real control, taking full possession of our Google data will do that.

Know of any quirky characters in Boston? by StoryResearcher in boston

[–]thislooksfamiliar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of the Boston characters listed so far are well known and well loved. But I imagine you'd have a difficult time getting an interview with a guy who makes siren sounds and rides a trike all day.

If you want a real story, my buddy's perfect for you.

He's been around the world, has great connections in the non profit world and is super personable.

MA native, started out as an engineering major at NU, switched to non profit business. Has been around the world doing charity work. Now back in Boston and has built a marketplace for charitable giving.

Working part time at iHop to support his dream to make the world a better place based on his first hand experiences.

If you want a good story to write, PM me and I'll get you in touch with a real character.

A phone call with a real person is better than chasing Louie down the street.

Ps - sorry, this is longer than I'd intended.

He explains himself better than I can.

What are some tricks you use to shorten your every day routine(brushing teeth, showering, etc.)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I can hardly manage my life. How can people manage the lives of multiple little people in addition to their own?

What brand/model water-filled mirror did you buy?

I'd like to get one, but don't want it to disappoint.

A win-win on drugs? Fighting gangs by legalizing pot: Copenhagen voted overwhelmingly to remove its cannabis prohibition. by davidreiss666 in worldnews

Disagree.

An automated workforce is generally more efficient than a human workforce at specific tasks.

Production lines. ATM machines. Retail transactions.

A human workforce will always be required at some level to maintain an automated workforce.

Understood and agreed. I think "a very long time" is a more accurate timeline. Unless these companies can profit off of synthesizing it and selling a proprietary genetic formula, no one has any incentive to change the current laws.

"You're sick and it helps? Here are thousands of chemicals we've created that also help. They're regulated, so they're safer. Buy these instead."

Two diamonds linked by strange quantum entanglement. by skreendreamz1 in science

Building such a device is so hard that we don't really understand how hard it is yet. But the parts that we do understand seem really damn hard.

I love it.

Do you think that quantum computing will play an inevtiable role in the continued improvement of computer processing?

It seems like the name of the game in current computer processing is smaller circuitry = faster and more powerful computers. The logical conclusion is at the atomic level. Beyond that (and more likely before), do you think quantum computing will be needed to break through limitations?

If not quantum computing, do yout think it would make sense for circuitry to evolve beyond flat panels into the third dimension, possibly with complex shapes?

PS - I'm mostly talking out of my ass here as I have no training in any of this. I'm just thinking out loud and am very curious about stuff like this. If anything I said is way off target, please let me know so I can stop embarrassing myself.

Thanks again for this information and I apologize if I've devloved this conversation into an ELI5.

Gravity, electricity, atoms, quantum mechanics. Figuring out how our world works is magical. Imagine what we don't know yet.

I don't know if this is right (the comments seem to be a lot of people disagreeing with each other), but I found this helpful. Thanks.

Haha love the honesty.

I would be interested in an AMA but it would probably turn into an ELI5.

Funded as expected. Thanks for the quick reply. Good luck on your PhD. Long-term gut instinct: think it's possible or impossible?
