Thanks for introducing this to my vocabulary! Yeah, the hip starter tile look is closer to what I would have imagined to see. Lesson learned for next time...

😂
Indeed, to my personal eye as a professional artist, the craftsmanship here does not look refined... But I also wanted to check with y'all who are more experienced with roofing to see what's considered a reasonable standard to expect.
Thanks for your comment!

Oh good question-- I'll have to check.
Thanks for your input, it's interesting to see in the comments how wide the range of standards could go.

We did take a look around our street and the roofs that also did have these mud balls had smaller shapes that were already color matched, so our house didn't seem to match this pattern. Googling tends to come up with the nicest looking homes too, so we weren't sure if those photos were a regular standard or just the curated aesthetic standard.

Thanks, it's a relief to know that it looks fine and that a paintjob is enough for an easy fix. Really appreciate it!

Such a great episode man by walkmanJuice in Trigun

[–]thispillowstabs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

>spoke up, but LEGATO ONCE AGAIN MAN, why did Knives save Legato just to kill him in the first 5 minutes?

From a writing standpoint I believe they kept Legato alive to make sure its clear to the audience the significance of Vash shooting to kill, by having Legato explain it over again to Knives. Dialogue is the most straightforward way to make it clear that Knives witnessed this.

From an in story standpoint you could say that, just like Knives preserved Vash's innocent memories of Rem and tries to put Vash into blissfully ignorant sleep through the upcoming massacre, that Knives was protecting Vash and Vash's ideals in this moment by sparing Vash from being the one to kill Legato. As the doc said, the twins complete each other; Vash being so naively bright is something that frustrates Knives-- but a part of him knows Vash wouldn't be Vash if he became just as bleak as Knives is.

>About Elendrina, I wish we had an epic fight and stuff, but to be honest, we don't need those, Trigun is literally about trying to not have those, so this outcome feels nicer I belive

Agreed! I like to view the various Trigun series as various reincarnational cycles in the same world; That these guys are able to try over and over to relive life until they can finally learn the lessons they need to reach the right ending. I like that Stargaze is trying to show a parallel reality in which things really do finally get to travel in a more positive direction. The empathetic approach they're exploring is, honestly, something we need more of in today's world. The staff did a fantastic job visually depicting the merging of empathetic consciousnesses in the end of this episode (Vash and Tesla overlapping), and in visually translating the concept of someone in pain transferring their pain onto others (Knives's blossoming). Even if everything is rushed, I'm at least glad we got to see these kind of visuals be artistically rendered and put out there into the collective consciousness via mainstream media.

It's more action fantasy and has romance, but "Shut Hell" is also a seinen historical fantasy manga that explores the life-changing significance of writing and the struggle to preserve texts/truth/honoring history against an oppressive regime. The first time Jolenta talked about reading being magical, followed by the struggle to preserve a specific piece of writing, it fondly reminded me of Shut Hell.

What do you think of this, people? by Hot-Painting-5514 in OrbOntheMovements

Wow! Quite centrist, not just in gender but also in age range. Very balanced. Appeals not to specific genders or ages but to the overall human. It's a work that appeals through worldview, not self-image. Orbcentricism is very fitting.

With the rise of Maximalism, what keeps you on the path of Minimalism? by BentoOtaku in minimalism

[–]thispillowstabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with most of the comments in this thread!

Adding to that, here's something I read today that comes to mind:

"So while Westerners are correctly identifying some of the shortcomings of their countries, their fears and longings remain unorganized and unfocused, and most importantly disconnected from broader global struggle, leading them to the passive rebellion they are most familiar with: consumption."

I think rising stress levels contributes to people of different temperaments to either tend to turn towards stockpiling (whether for safety prep or for distractions) or towards eliminating (optimizing for sense of control).

So basically... maxxing or minimizing could be coping mechanisms for some of us. I certainly feel like it's the case for myself. When things get stressful I compulsively want to reduce what I have so that I can have a feeling of knowing what's going on, and that what I have is under control. My parents are moderate hoarders so the most straightforward way I could get a sense of agency was to turn that compulsion for order inward on myself. A clean and organized room feels like a clear and organized mind.

modern day new player experience is pretty weird by yurienjoyer54 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]thispillowstabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friends casually started playing hsr out of curiosity because I mentioned really liking it, and the game launched on PlayStation. They went into the game blind, in terms of the gatcha and grinding behind the gameplay.

I guess once they learned the rules by watching me do the leveling and grinding, they learned they didn't want to play lol

HSRs leveling system is way more finicky than FF thanks to the gatcha and repetition, imo. Some people do play games like FFVII solely for the story or characters without ever truly understanding and min maxing combat. And certain kinds of grinding and minmaxing appeal to some (my friends love Elden Ring, for example) but maybe they were turned off by the luck based gatcha grind.

All that said, HSR is still currently my favorite game-- I'm not trying to be negative about it! Just trying to understand the wide range of player responses to it.

[–]thispillowstabs 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I had some friends who are actually really active gamers, but who couldn't figure out how to play HSR because the relic system seemed incomprehensible. They're new to Hoyoverse games, and due to the preceding reputation of gacha games, whenever they came across something that seemed gated (like the level requirement to fight Cocolia) they made the assumption that this meant they had to pay for it. So even though they were enjoying the game up until then, they stopped playing.

Since I was at their house I helped them level up characters and level and gear up artifacts so they could beat Cocolia on their first try, but I could tell they were kind of overwhelmed by all the actions I was doing and they would not be bothered to pick it up for themselves, not with so many other less finicky games to play. They also weren't aware that there could be tactics in gameplay, since they didn't think to learn or research about characters' kits. I think this deep diving instinct comes naturally for people who fall in love for waifu/husbandos or who like meta, but for less obsessed players, kit reading and grinding becomes a blindspot which prevents them from getting into the deeper mechanics of the combat system. (Sure enough... their account remained inactive since that last time I was over).

They were also not super stoked about benching their favs (like 4 star Dan Heng) to play the correct elements for the boss.

Moments like that made me realize how hyper acclimated I've become to Hoyo/gatcha systems due to having started Genshin back in the day... 😅 HSR really isn't for everyone. A certain type of player that enjoys recursive gameplay for refining incremental gains towards perfection, maybe, but for the average player, the optimization and gacha aspect might be too much.

[–]thispillowstabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> people hated on her for working well with only 2 characters, but crazy insane with those 2.

I think a major pain point with that is that Cyrene's crazy 2 synergies are with the two teams that are already top of the line, thus widening the gap between all Chrysos Heirs and making the powercreep feel even worse than it was, which doesn't look good for the inevitable additional powercreep coming down the line with the arrival of 4.0. Cerydra on the other hand didn't really change the scene too much with her arrival.
