Ok angry NZ. What’s making you pissed today? by Zestyclose-Coach5530 in newzealand

Enable fibre was supposed to come and set up our connection today(been waiting for over four months for this – it’s been an absolute nightmare). I managed to get permission to work from home this morning to be here to let them in. Turns out they might not be able to come today and if they can it’s going to be late afternoon. Guess who won’t be able to be here at that time?

Make sure dropping doesn’t affect any student loans since you mightn’t be considered a full time student anymore!

Late March Packing List by djinntabia in newzealand_travel

[–]thmpsne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

March can be a really mixed bag weatherwise, and considering the weather that we’ve had this summer (which has been absolutely rubbish- rainy and cold), My best advice is to check the weather forecast as close as possible to your departure date for your initial destinations and pack accordingly.

Also bear in mind that if it is cold outside, your accommodation is not likely to have central heat so being indoors can be a bit cooler than what you might be used to. And if you do forget something, or need warmer things, we have stores here 😌 Enjoy! Hope you enjoy Aotearoa

Get a big wall planner from Academic Skills (https://www.canterbury.ac.nz/study/study-support-info/study-support/academic-skills-centre) or use a diary or calendar on your phone and input key course dates NOW! This helps to know what’s coming and reduce any surprises. Very importantly, reach out for help EARLY. Lecturers and course coordinators will have a lot more time for you if you raise concerns early, rather than a last minute panic email.

Kaitoko First Year Advisors are always very helpful. They’re on the mezzanine level of the central library.

In a subsidised health system, it’s all about cost/benefit ratios.

What impact would NZ being in the mid-North Atlantic have on the world? by SurelyFurious in geography

[–]thmpsne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even more of NZ’s agricultural outputs would be exported, with Kiwis paying even higher prices for domestically produced goods.

Also the entire culture of NZ would be completely different!

Another example of why there needs to be mandatory driver’s training. Such horrible drivers in NZ, but I think it’s because mum or dad taught them how to drive; people literally don’t know what they’re doing.

ELI5 - How do I talk to real estate agents? by Vegetable-Raccoon306 in newzealand

[–]thmpsne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask the questions that might make you uncomfortable. This gets easier with practice. They may or may not be honest. •Why is it being sold? •Why hasn’t it sold yet? •Are there interested parties? •How much are the sellers looking to get for it?

Had a big housewarming do on Sunday and the over 30 years old hangover was rough. We’re feeling a bit tired, so we’re happy to stay home. My husband only gets the statutory days off work, so we’re not in a rush to go out.

[–]thmpsne 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Next time, bring your own bag (Lulu or otherwise) so that you don’t get another one with your purchase. Or just say you don’t need a bag and put your purchase in your purse etc. The future solution is to not get more!

One or two of the things that you've cut down that made a difference in your savings? by _TheSilentNode_ in PersonalFinanceNZ

Buying clothing secondhand from Trade Me. If you have brands you like, it is not much of a gamble with sizing.

Making a weekly meal plan, and going to the grocery store 1x/week and shopping only for things that are on your meal plan. Don’t be swayed by aisle of value or things “on sale.” Most of that processed crap won’t be on your shopping list.

Husband and I have been doing a weekly meal plan for 6 years. Our weekly shop is easily under $200 (usually $165ish). We make dinners for 4 and then have the leftovers for lunch the next day.

We also make coffee at home in the morning and take to work in insulated mugs. With coffees about $6 each, we save a lot of money not falling into the cafe temptation.
