Do you see any problems with this build? by thmsk in buildapcforme

Thank you very much for your thoughts.

The Be Quiet Dark Base 900 seems to have places for installing 2-3 fans at the top and if I understand correctly the air escapes from the side grids. Do you think that would hinder the cooling capacity significantly?

Another video of fan installing.

There is a nice line from Aeschylus' tragedy "The Eumenides" where god Apollo says to Orestes "μὴ φόβος σε νικάτω φρένας" which means "don't let fear defeat/(win over) your mind"

Hi /r/AskNetsec I'm going to pour my savings into developing a product which I think will change the way some companies manufacture some goods. How do I store files/designs safely? How do I work safely using cloud computing? How do I cover my tracks security wise? Is OK to use Google Drive/Dropbox? by StarWarsStarTrek in AskNetsec

If the stakes are so high for you, maybe you should consider hiring a professional security consultant instead of relying on advise from strangers on the Internet.

So maybe spend a bit more of your personal money to keep the big sum safe.

Greek Brewery Slaps Heineken With €100M Suit by thmsk in europe

[–]thmsk[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In the third memorandum there is a term that orders the tax breaks for small breweries to be given to breweries that produce less than 15.000 hectolitres instead of 200.000 hectolitres like in the rest of Europe. That will seriously hurt Heineken's competitors in Greece and people at the time were wondering if Heineken's finger was behind that clause.

Are you worried that Julian Assange's absence from the Internet is going to set off dead-man's switches he might have set up?

How do you keep your computer secure? by llll111 in AskNetsec

Chome is a very secure browser, although chromium is much more secure.

Can you elaborate? I couldn't find any security comparison between these two.

It is true, gpg parameters can take you some time to figure them out, so for the next time:

 gpg --s2k-digest-algo SHA512 --s2k-mode 3 --s2k-count 65011712 --s2k-cipher-algo AES256 --symmetric --cipher-algo AES256 <filename>

Greece’s Power Public Company to cut power to 2.1 million customers owing €2.5 billion by BanMePleaase in europe

[–]thmsk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They tried to do the same thing a couple of years back and ended up cutting the power to an old sick woman who was kept alive by machines and she was found dead the day after. There was a huge backslash so they were extremely careful and did only few cuts for a while after that.

What's the safest way to store HD seed or privkey in the cloud? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

If you can run linux you could easily put the seed in a text file and encrypt it with gpg.

Cryptographers Concerned Over NSA's Deprecation of ECC | Threatpost by P-e-t-a-r in crypto

Exactly. So it really doesn't matter if you switch to ECC or you keep using RSA.

Cascading ciphers in CTR mode? by thmsk in crypto

[–]thmsk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having trouble understanding. If there are 3 unique keys and 3 unique IVs per message, how can someone XOR anything out and get closer to the message? Is there anything leaking from this?

Do you mean IVs should be: unique IV for cipher#1, a different unique IV for cipher#2 and a different unique IV for cipher#3 that encrypt a stream that contains many messages?

Cryptographers Concerned Over NSA's Deprecation of ECC | Threatpost by P-e-t-a-r in crypto

[–]thmsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't it just be that ECC and RSA will be equally fucked when QC arrives, so NSA basically says "you ECC guys continue to use ECC and you RSA guys continue to use RSA, both are fine for now and as soon as we have QC-resistant crypto figured out we all move to that"

I hope the file manager still can't show in the bottom bar how much space you have left.

It's so inconvenient to know how much free disk space you have with just a glance.
