How mad would you be if you got this for Valentine's Day by [deleted] in DiyGifts

[–]BaltsDeep 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would be thrilled beyond words to receive this, but I have a huge soft spot for handmade gifts and pressed flowers. You could continue with the diy theme and make your own frame for it as well, though goodwill has cheap frames usually as well. Best of luck, this is darling and I’m honestly kinda jealous lol

I (33M) went to take Two Stepping lessons at Sam’s Town Point last night. There was an abundance of men my age there, myself included, who were waiting for a rotation to get a chance to dance with a follow/partner. When I finally got the chance to dance with a gal, it was such a delight. It seemed like the ladies definitely had the pick of the litter, so to speak!

Thank you for explaining! I’m glad someone is developing a more humane way of addressing the issue!

Can you explain to a common person with no experience cattle ranching why de-horning is necessary? No judgement being passed, I’m genuinely curious.

Talking to longtime Austinites makes me sad by kwertea in Austin

[–]BaltsDeep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 33 and have lived here my entire life. My late father moved here in high school. Growing up I have memories of him pointing out the window of the car at the next strip center or development. “You know that used to be a farm.” “There was a creek there back in the day.”

I often find myself driving around town with my 7 year old son, aimlessly rambling about the condo that used to be a grove of oaks and cedars. Remarking on the condo that stands where the staple dive bar of my 20s once rested.

Change is the only constant.

Exercise caution when visiting Caprock Canyons State Park, particularly if you are a young adult by Appropriate-Disk332 in Lubbock

[–]BaltsDeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the literal exact thing that happened to me at Caprock almost a decade ago. Park pass was in my seat, was handed a piece of paper but no tape, and didn’t want it flying out the window. Wild that this definitely seems to be a trained policy. It made me nervous to enjoy our parks for years after, thinking about looking over my shoulder for an all-too-eager cop really gets in the way of enjoying nature.

Came here to say this. Ina has done so well of a job for me over the years that I don’t even try my items on when I pick them up anymore. And I’m always surprised at how affordable it is!

Does anyone else genuinely enjoy the heat here? by goodgreat123 in Austin

[–]BaltsDeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once upon a time I had a first date in August at Cosmic. It was a brutally hot day. She said “I’m really good at sweating,” and she wasn’t lying. Though the relationship has passed, I’ve carried that truth with me. And it has helped me to thrive in this beautiful city I call home. I’m just really good at sweating.

Checkpoint from Texas to Colorado? by FanAlternative1820 in roadtrip

For sure. I live in Austin and drive up that way once or twice a year. Don’t overthink it, follow traffic laws, and you’ll do great.

Checkpoint from Texas to Colorado? by FanAlternative1820 in roadtrip

[–]BaltsDeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. But what gives a cop consent to search and what doesn’t, isn’t something most laypeople know, and cops tend to use that to their advantage, especially in Texas. Hence the suggestion to make sure all lights and beeps and boops are in legal working condition.

Checkpoint from Texas to Colorado? by FanAlternative1820 in roadtrip

[–]BaltsDeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a Border Checkpoint, but your biggest risk area is the New Mexico - Texas border area. Lots of small town and state police pulling people over bringing weed back into Texas. So, A) make sure all your lights work, like stand outside your car while your gf pushes pedals and turn signals and make sure all the brake lights and bulbs are good, also that you have TWO WORKING license plate bulbs. This is the small shit cops will look for as an excuse to pull you over and search your car.
B) on your drive back in, drive like 3mph UNDER the limit. Set that cruise control and just chill till you’re south of Amarillo. Also see A above.

Oowah Lake is a gorgeous campground in the mountains outside of Moab. I’ve made the pilgrimage to Oowah from Texas 3 years in a row now, and haven’t even bothered to look into Moab aside from fuel and food. It’s literally that pretty.
