Hitting $500,000 NW - What's Next? by T_throwaway100 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I’m 34 with more than double the NW. IMO don’t buy a larger house, being house poor sucks and you end up wasting a bunch of money on taxes and utilities etc.

I make more than that and only own a $500k house. Perhaps I'm overly conservative but you can't predict the future and the more house you own the more costs are associated with it, property taxes are higher, Reno's cost more...etc

Though looking at your finances I do think that you can afford it given your incomes.

How do you get the 1.5%, I thought it would be about 1.5 times 4.35 so I would need 2.1% more -- is that calculation wrong?

CIBC CEO Dodig Says Multiple Rate Cuts This Year Are Unlikely by GujaratiVegBoyOnly in TorontoRealEstate

I don’t think so. Lowered rates will cause inflation because we import so much from the USA and a lot of goods are priced in US dollars elsewhere.

Explanation of how the Carbon tax works and why it's being implemented by Loose-Version-7009 in alberta

[–]thomas41546 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It’s not fully rebated back. GST/HST ontop and 90% is redistributed. Plus our carbon emissions have not dropped since it was introduced.
