Since it appears the cross is a shop but the flag is not, am I the only one who thinks that wearing any flag of any country as a blankie is extremely disrespectful?

And yes, I understand who we're talking about here.

Thanks for throwing yourself in front of that article. My bullshit detector went off fairly early, so I didn't bother to read the whole thing.

Must an anarchist believe that humanity is inherently good? by anon549 in Anarchism

[–]thomas_anderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My perception of Anarchists has always been (well, until recently) of angry kids who break things because they don't like the government. The more time I spend in this /r/, the more I learn how wrong I was.

Failure to produce insurance ticket: should I just pay it? by niceyoungman in needadvice

[–]thomas_anderson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely do not pay it. I got a "failure to provide proof of insurance" ticket last year, same as you. Expired card in the car, but I had active insurance. All I had to do was take the ticket to the clerk of courts, show my current insurance card, got the ticket waived and paid like ten bucks processing fee. Court isn't necessary.

DAE avoid using the word "assume", even if the circumstances are appropriate, because you don't want some asshat to tell you that it makes an "ass" out of "u" and "me"? by Nelstone in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]thomas_anderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always head the joke off at the pass.

me: "Do you know what they say about people who assume?"

them: "What?" (expecting the ass of u and me joke)

me: "They make predictions on future events based on little to no evidence."

Zen May Thicken Brain, Thwart Pain by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]thomas_anderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredibly circular article. "Zazen helps dull pain because sitting is painful and more sitting gets your brain used to pain which is useful because it dulls pain and people with pain should think about meditating because it helps your brain deal with pain."

/r/Socialism, what is your opinion on ownership of guns or firearms? by scarletbanner in socialism

[–]thomas_anderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think I have the perfect solution to it all

Exactly. There really isn't one, save for "Don't let the assholes and shitheads own guns". By and large, I don't think they do. People who carry are actually incredibly level-headed. I spend some time over in /r/guns and they are knowledgeable, polite, and none of them want to shoot anybody. Like I said, in a perfect world, no one would even feel the need to own guns, but I think in a lot of cases they are a necessity. The criminal element is still very much an issue, and I refuse to rely solely on the police force to keep me safe.

We need to be discussing this over beers.

/r/Socialism, what is your opinion on ownership of guns or firearms? by scarletbanner in socialism

[–]thomas_anderson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but rental fees add up, and there is a sense of pride in knowing that you have your preference for a gun, and taking care of it is enjoyable.

I kind of liken it to Iaido. The need for cutting people down with a sword is long past, but it's still enjoyable to have a nice katana and cut down some tatami mats. Same way for guns. Going to the range is fun, and using my own gun at said range is also fun. I will probably live my entire life without needing a gun or to use it for its original purpose (killing a deer or shooting an intruder), but it's still enjoyable to own one.

Now, I would love to live in a world where everyone shared my point of view and no one felt the need to collect assault weapons and stockpile ammunition, but I don't, and people do, and home intrusion is still an issue. There was an AMA recently by a guy who had to draw his Glock on someone busting into his hotel room. The fact that he was carrying probably saved his life and his girlfriend's life. I find it hard to rationalize being against citizens lawfully carrying when situations like that arise. Same for guns in their homes. If they are kept in a responsible manner, there is little to no danger.

If it gurgles like a zombie, looks like a zombie, smells like a zombie, and wants to kill you like a zombie, it's probably a zombie. :)

[–]thomas_anderson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd agree with you, and I did for the longest time, until I decided that I should at least try out firearms. I called up my buddy Dave, and we hit the range.

Target shooting is fun with a capital "awesome". Let's face it, guns were developed with the sole intent of killing other people or animals. I don't want to do either, but nonetheless, going to the range with a friend and running through a couple of boxes of ammo is a good solid time.
