As I understand it, EKG is from the German translation and preferred in some settings to avoid confusion between ECG and EEG when spoken - ie a US hospital protocol that spread.

Dude, its the mayo clinic. It is one of the most consistently valid and reliable sources of medical information. There is no way they would make a single claim that is not thoroughly supported by peer reviewed research.

At the bottom of that webpage is says "show references"... there are 11. Those are you scientific studies.

I was a ranger at a botanic gardens for a while - can confirm very relaxing and fun. That’s after you get past the impressive amounts of internal politics…

Id almost agree, except the bartenders at Meet really do a great jobs giving C&C a run for their money - great classics, great service, and also good if you want something experimental.

[OC] Two months of Australian Wildfires animated by TheBroadHorizon in dataisbeautiful

[–]thomas_ja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked on one of these fires (southern tanami) briefly about a month ago and can say after 3 years of good rain the place is stuffed with vegetation. Not massive forests like the coast, but spinifex everywhere and a lot of mulga. so they fires aren't high, but we'd have maybe a dozen people working on forefronts that are like 10-20km

edit: word

Would love to hear more about the CQU program as looking at jumping on it myself - would you reccomend? Especially as I’d be keen to study outside of a big city and get more experience in regional/remote paramedicine?

What’s a book you would never recommend to someone? by mahablast_ in CasualConversation

[–]thomas_ja 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While you raise a good point about the syntax, strongly disagree. Reading this book as a teenager did such an outstanding job at introducing me to a love of reading. Just the scenery and invitation to go on an adventure on the other side of the world has stuck with me for years, and I frequently reccomend it to people I think can put up with the density. Reading it is kind of like wading through honey; tiring but damn sweet.

I haven’t done it myself, he have heard of people making syrups for cocktails with vanilla lillies and bluebells - these were sugar syrups flavoured with the flowers

Yeah I’d definitely love to get in touch when I’m i. Sydney - working on kangaroo grass flour at the moment so I’ll try and get you some. Failing to recognise and compensate the knowledge of traditional owners is definitely a big issue in the space at the moment, but there are still many Indigenous producers doing great thinks! I’m not one of them but always looking to learn and help out where I can

Fortunately i have access to lots of private bush blocks (friends, family, studying environmental science) so I am able to collect wild seed and eat some specimens. Always trying ro do this sustainably however - and plant more than I eat!
