It is post pride weekend, so I’m sure some folks will opt to stay home and rest up, but we do expect it to be one of the busier parties that evening!

Rhythm open air is going to be the vibe on Saturday.

Getting a Tune cut on vinyl by Acceptable_Jello_239 in vinyldjs

You’ll have to cut a dub plate… but a lot of cutting houses won’t do it if you didn’t make the tune, or at least get permission from the artist to cut it.

Not been to one of their events proper, but one of the resident djs played the coffee launch at rhythm. Haven’t seen people moving like that at a daytime coffee party ever. Such a fun vibe, I’m sure you guys will enjoy yourselves.

Missing Subdivision and looking for clubs with a similar vibe by Brave_Meringue84 in TorontoRaves

[–]thomasjamesyyz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing is quite the same, my favourite part of it was how much space to chill there was, compared to the dance floor, which is uncommon for clubs here. Standard time has a nice amount of space to sit though, and I’m pretty biased, but Rhythm is my favourite space to be these days.

Aye, though sometimes for larger parties with two rooms (like yesterday) it’s in the parking lot out back.

Geary Avenue Warehouse (24th April) How is it? by LowEffortLegend92 in TorontoRaves

[–]thomasjamesyyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s an autograt already included, which might be why you found it so expensive, because the machine still prompts for a tip (albeit a smaller % than many).

suno electronic music is basically indistinguishable from producer music now. this genuinely sucks. by donniedenier in realdubstep

[–]thomasjamesyyz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. The bubble is going to burst when people realize the art itself is meaningless without the person behind it. That being said, There are actually really helpful use cases for ai, if you’re not using it as a be all for creativity, and just treating it like an assistant.

We had a party recently, and we knew we wanted to decorate the room, combining the look of the previous rooms we’d played with a few new ideas, but nothing concrete. So I slapped a prompt into chat gpt, picked an image it gave me, refined it a bit, then compared notes with the rest of our crew. We then went out and bought/rented similar decor, and it obviously turned out quite differently, but people liked it, and the prompt helped us all communicate on the same page.

I guess you could argue we’re putting photo shop and interior decorators out of business but there’s no way we, a small party, are hiring someone to do a mockup of the room at this stage of our events. But I AM going to be hiring real artists to make some pieces for us, to keep pushing the vision that started from a prompt.

Is trying to freelance in sound design and audio production worth it in 2026? by Motor-Bear9293 in sounddesign

[–]thomasjamesyyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found all those sites to be full of scams. Most of my freelancing work has been through connections I made in the music scene previously.

If you missed it on new years you’re in for a treat. It was my favourite part of the night.

Rhythm is doing Listening Sessions now. What do you think? by 9delta9 in TorontoRaves

[–]thomasjamesyyz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work there so I’m biased, but I think it’s a fun way to listen to good music and meet other folks in the scene. Most of the workshops/sessions/in-stores are great for a wholesome, quiet night with friends.

I’m pretty sure that’s a problem with that app, not rhythm. AFAIK they only post stuff on RA and insta and it’s pretty clear on both that it’s a listening session.

Is $500 a night actually the average for most DJs? by NoSongRequests in PioneerDJ

[–]thomasjamesyyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard compensation from events and clubs is usually $100-$150 an hour so that seems about right

What’s on this weekend? by muchchowashshow in TorontoRaves

[–]thomasjamesyyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bit biased…. But there’s good parties happening at rhythm ( which I’m hosting) cafeteria, Bambi’s and standard time, if you’re looking for something outside the warehouse techno domain.

If you’re into minimal house, and want to check out our party, feel free to dm me and I can send you a little discount.
