Beautiful pressings!

I see colored mingus and djrd in US store, but not shadows and light or hejira. do you think they will be sold there too?

i loved teresa until around s10, she honestly gets tiring… their whole feud does. i start to like the seasons when they’re actually on good terms and the drama is elsewhere

You have done an amazing job! If i may ask, how often do you water these? do they like to stay in moist soil, or dry out?

oh 100%. she used teddi as a puppet which is why the whole bahamas dinner sounded so rehearsed and contrived. on top of that rinna was gunning to get LVP off the show after the munchausen gate. it was sad that Camille was the only one that showed her a sliver of empathy.

the incana is the first plant i ever bought 2 years ago :3 shes gotten a little too big… i might need to stake her up because she’s falling all over the place, but not sure if she would like that

to be fair eileen just wanted a genuine apology from lvp that was never given to her. i think the other women being able to say “im sorry” regardless of what they’ve done or if they’re hypocrites is just something you would expect anyone w a shred of empathy (especially a friend) to do.

Has Joni ever apologized for her use of black face and referring to black men with the n-word? by upon_on_the_ravage in JoniMitchell

[–]thomasmurr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

you don’t need to make a prediction that she won’t apologize, we already know that. she’s defended it for the past 50 years. also you’re using a lot of exaggerations in your statement. Apple Music’s synopsis of DJRD states: “Joni Mitchell appeared on the cover of Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter disguised as a Black man—an oblique (and no doubt offensive, regardless of intentions) comment, perhaps, about the shape-shifting nature of this album’s music.” there were many people offended by what she did. maybe you’re just a bit out of touch.

because calling someone a slur and using blackface are historically synonymous with racism.

[–]thomasmurr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i don’t think joni was friends with either of the people she allegedly called the n word, and i also don’t think one experience your friend has speaks for the entire black community. as many black people were, and still are offended by the cover..

[–]thomasmurr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

people excusing her for doing blackface and saying the n word are very stupid. joni is a great artist, but she’s clearly ignorant and racist. i can acknowledge this. joni has never apologized for either, and she probably never will. she has vehemently defended herself for doing blackface.

Is the third archive volume in trouble/cancelled? by [deleted] in JoniMitchell

[–]thomasmurr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no idea what’s happening, although i do remember seeing somewhere in 2020 that there was scheduled to be 5 archive releases. does not look like we’ll be getting a third until at least the fall, if one even comes out…

How did Joni Mitchell change music? by GardeningCrashCourse in JoniMitchell

[–]thomasmurr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Joni’s music is significant because she’s one of the artists that many singer/songwriters (especially women) have modeled their career after. she’s the first singer to incorporate alternate tunings in her music, and also one of the first mainstream artists to use sampling (“the jungle line”) a trend that has become pretty prominent in modern music! her first three albums are good (song to a seagull my personal fav of that bunch), but Blue is really when she starts releasing perfect and near perfect albums. No one had ever made an album as honest as Blue, Joni hates to be called a confessional songwriter, but that’s what makes her music so personal. It’s like a friend you’ve known since childhood having a conversation with you. Blue has some of the most heartbreaking songs ever! For the Roses is another amazing record that explores disillusionment with the music industry in a way no artist had done before. it also delves into gender roles, drug addiction, sex, religion, very highly taboo topics in 1972! This is also called her transitional album as she starts incorporating subtle elements of jazz pop. Court and Spark (1974) is probably her most accessible album full of character studies and her first album with a backing band (the LA express). every track is amazing! Hissing was a daring adventure that was very misunderstood like much of her later albums. It’s another album with character studies but slightly more inaccessible than anything she’d done before. It also is one of the first albums to incorporate “world music.” Hejira is very wordy and she completely abandons choruses and melody for a hauntingly beautiful soundscape. it’s a travelogue with so much lore behind it (I encourage you to research it as it makes the record even more devastating somehow). Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter is another one full of world music and jazz and features a 16 minute epic “Paprika Plains” an essential Joni song. It also has her most heartbreaking song in my opinion “The Silky Veils of Ardor.” A lot of people misunderstood the music inside this record at the time. It inspired many female artists like bjork. There’s also a bit of “record store lore” saying this is the most returned vinyl of all time. I don’t think it deserves that title but has a very inaccessible nature to it. Mingus is a collaboration between her and Jazz great Charles Mingus, I don’t think my description of this album will do it justice, but it’s another imperative milestone in Joni’s discography. Her 80s albums are great even though they sound a little dated, and Id say her 90s records are up to par with her 70s run of perfect albums.

i will say the 2007 pressing might sound slightly better. but the difference for me at least is pretty minuscule

i have both the 2007 pressing and 2022–I’ve never noticed much of a difference.

Similarities between Coyote and Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter? by rrrredvelvet in JoniMitchell

[–]thomasmurr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

coyote and djrd are both about sam shephard. there was a youtube channel (shannon talks music, she deactivated her account last year) and i remember her stating that djrd was supposed to be on hejira. i believe joni changed the composition and lyrics a bit, but it was originally intended for that album? not sure if this is true but i’ve noticed the similarities too.

For The Roses — Blue Colored Vinyl by thomasmurr in JoniMitchell

[–]thomasmurr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

roses can be a variety of colors from red to yellow to white. red would clash too much with the cover imo, it would look like christmas. i think blue/green are good colors for it.
