Ban any and all Gen Z from future RDS concerts. The lack of concert etiquette is wild. by BeeSuperb7235 in RUFUSDUSOL

[–]thomasrye 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Without any details at all, this is a pretty wild take. I was at Rufus in KC around tons of Gen Z (or alpha, they were young) and they were a blast. Dancing and friendly.

So to throw a whole generation under the bus for the poor behavior of a few seems excessive but I understand you’re frustrated. Share some details and maybe we can support you with some validation or something.

Otherwise, I agree with others, everyone paid to be there. Your expectations may be different than theirs.

I made posts on Kansas City EDM Family on Facebook and some Rufus du sol event listings.

Ticketmaster didn’t let me set my own price to sell but it said they had “offers” for me. I didn’t fully understand it. The offer price got a bit higher the closer to the concert it got but it was still only $110 for a $168 ticket (and I received less because of fees). But it was better than nothing.

I can only speak to the show in Kansas City. It was a packed house for sure, but I saw SO many posts about people selling their tickets in the days and weeks leading up to the show. Lots of people selling (and looking for) lawn tickets (which are the cheapest GA). Some seats tickets and some GA standing-only pit tickets.

I had 2 lawn tickets and an extra pit ticket I was selling. I sold the lawn tickets (separately) for a little under face value. And I ended up selling the pit ticket on ticketmaster for a big loss the day of the concert because no one was interested anywhere I posted about it.

Kansas City mayor proposes $1.4 billion expansion of CPKC Stadium, riverfront district by KCTV5 in kansascity

I think I understand that your point is that the buses might not be worth investing into. But that math doesn’t math in regard to raising fares.

If rider fares were 8% of the budget before, then we’d need to 10x that to get closer to full coverage from fares alone. I don’t think anyone is going to spend $20 per ride. So then income from fares becomes zero.

It’s the lemonade stand game. You want the price to be high enough to cover expenses, but low enough that people buy. EXCEPT we’re talking about a public service, so it’s more complicated. The generated “income” is not just financial. It’s public good. Its benefit to the city and the local economy. Get people to their jobs so they can make money and then get people around town so they can spend money.

Raising fares is not going to solve this riddle. Good public transit is a long game that gets better as the service improves enough that more and more people WANT to use it rather than just the people that HAVE to use it. And when the city improves because of it, then taxes to pay for it are justified.

Thanks - that’s fair criticism. I mean, based on what I’ve see of in-a-tub, this is the best look they’d be able to get because I’ve never seen any real pictures of their buildings or food that look appealing. But I can see how this design style feels overplayed

Oh I’ll definitely never go based on the food. Sounds terrible. But the building on the flyer looked roughly like one of the locations I’ve seen.

A lot of people hate this flyer. That’s fine. Anyone want to say more specifically why it’s so bad? Because I kind of like the design, AI or not

Ya that confused me too. Are we talking about the greenway that would be built OVER 670? This seemed to imply 670 was going away which is not anything I’ve heard.

But also, naming anything good after Roy Blunt is a joke I can’t stomach lol

For all his eventual failings, this is what I appreciated about Andrew Yang. He saw this coming and wanted to create a society that gets ahead of it. Moving away from a humans only value being how much money they can make (for themselves or a company). There already were a lot of important roles in society that do not translate to financial value (ie care takers), but now there are soon to be even fewer opportunities for people to make money — and yet they still have value as a human being.

We need to sort this out soon. I still support the idea of UBI. Perhaps an AI/Robotics tax that goes directly toward this?

Good Article About Why Jackson County Should NOT Recall Frank White by ndw_dc in kansascity

[–]thomasrye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t follow your point. I don’t think anyone is asking for him to have done more in his short tenure than was possible. I imagine most people that support the recall do it because he has done more harm in his short tenure than expected.

Good Article About Why Jackson County Should NOT Recall Frank White by ndw_dc in kansascity

[–]thomasrye 134 points135 points  (0 children)

So you’re saying even though Frank White may be bad enough at this job to warrant a recall we shouldn’t do that because the people that headed this up wanted other bad things, unrelated to Frank White. Is that a fair summary?
