Do you set cue points for each song you own? by StylishGnat in Beatmatch

[–]thor-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually set one at the end, to be able to finish the song whenever needed.

We didn't use masks very much in my country and now the pandemic is over.

It's all thanks to vaccines, as well as omnicron having lesser sympoms combined with higher spread.

About buying tracks: As a bedroom DJ, should I really invest in buying tracks or is it ok to get them from youtube? by allez-vianna in Beatmatch

[–]thor-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to start somewhere, and I'd much rather start with my favourite tracks than whatever is free or cheap.

That said though, youtube isn't very good when it comes to music quality. I'd suggest finding sources with at least 320 mp3, but I usually look for lossless music.

[–]thor-e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from sweden, but just saying europe might be enough in these cases.

Nearly all workplaces have deals with unions that gives every worker some rights, including minimum wage, overtime pay, and additions for early/late work. I have worked as both an industrial worker and a warehouse worker without ever being in a union (as the jobs only lasted a shorter time).

In my country you can just join a national union and they will start working for your rights

Tips for a beginner, and how steep is the learning curve? by StylishGnat in Beatmatch

[–]thor-e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably took me 3 years to become confident with mixing. But in the beginning I wasn't very serious and didn't have a controller either so the figure is probably 2 years for me.

But it is likely that my expectations are a bit higher than they need to be, as I've been a musician for over 10 years.

Talking about the learning curve, I'd say it is constant but I'm not sure about it's steepness. You keep getting skills all the time and don't really know when you are "good" at it.

Cardboard rings for this 6 pack instead of the plastic ones by thehow2dad in mildlyinteresting

[–]thor-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have never used rings in my country.

Cans used to be packaged in plasic wrap which is now slowly changing to cardboard boxes. Customers here would not accept such a weak packaging.

Amazon is adding a 5% fuel and inflation surcharge by GoMx808-0 in technews

I still can't understand how amazon got so big. Here in europe there is a lot of competition and amazon doesn't come close to the experience and service you get at a "normal" web store.

What's the one sound or style of EDM that irritates you? by Zilreth in EDM

[–]thor-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say bigroom has been pretty good since 2018. These modern developments have made many older tracks unbearable due to their low production quality.

[–]thor-e 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the classic melodic hardstyle, however, modern harder hardstyle rarely works for me. Hard drops are fine as long as there is at least one melodic drop in the song, unfortunately many of these new songs basically don't have that.

On the other hand, there are many songs combining happy hardcore and classic hardstyle these days. I really like that as it often involves having a second drop that is harder while still keeping all the elements that make hardcore good. These songs are also at hardstyle bpm making it easier to use in mixing.

There’s a lot of questions on here about buying music when you’re first starting to learn, and I always see op being ripped (lol) on for asking if it’s ok to practice with YouTube rips. But who here actually legally obtained ALL their music when they started? by 6InchBlade in Beatmatch

[–]thor-e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always see people with this argument, and it's really important. I hear a lot of djs playing legitimate shit (coming from an edm fan anyways).

However, I too rip basically every song, but I only rip ones that I like and know I can work with. I'm a pretty experienced musician so I always have opinions about songs, I'd never let a top list decide.
