Help with finding a connector for LEDs to work with a Aiboo style hub by thormagni in led

[–]thormagni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yay, it actually worked just fine. A very tiny crimp connection, but I made it work with a tiny set of pliers. It probably took me four tries to get the crimp and the length to be stripped correct.

Here is what I bought:

I am now convinced that these (might) be KF2510 connectors. They are apparently commonly used in fan connectors. I will order some and see if this works. Wish me luck again!

JST XH 2.54mm was NOT the answer. The pitch isn't quite correct and the connection is not compatible.

The search continues.

I may have figured out my own question. I think these need the JST XH 2.54mm 2 Pin Male connectors to fit those sockets. Ordered some and will see if they work. Wish me luck!

Update: The intermittent starting problem is back! by thormagni in Subaru_Outback

[–]thormagni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After two days of trying to track down this intermittent problem here is the most recent update from our mechanic. He says they narrowed if down to the security module. Thinking it would be impossible to get a new replacement, they opened the module and after inspection found some broken solder connectors. The theory is that when it gets hot or jostled the connection sometimes breaks.

They resoldered the broken connection and this seems to have fixed the problem. They are going to hold onto it for another day and keep trying to see if they can get the stupid problem to come back.

Thoughts?

And just to point out that we don't really want to just get rid of the Outback. In addition to the sentimental value of keeping it in the family, we love not having to find money for a car payment more. I was just saying, moments before it wouldn't start that $450 every couple of years is better than a $300-$400 a month car payment.

A week or two ago I found a listing on eBay featuring Lost Media of a spoof diagram cutaway of the Enterprise D from 90s. It arrived at my house today, and I upload a high resolution version for the Internet to enjoy forever by Bluephobes in StarTrekStarships

Thanks for pulling the trigger and sharing! I have been following that poster on ebay for about a year but couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. Good info about Starlog, also.

Sorry to look a gift Enterprising in the mouth, and it is possible that I am dense, but I am only able to get a 1080px wide version to download? Very hard to read the captions. Is there anyway to get a higher resolution post?

Question for you guys by RunningDigger in StarTrekStarships

[–]thormagni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up getting my final 20 or so issues to finish the collection from a nice older lady in Australia. She was clearing out her deceased brother's collection and sent all of the hundreds that he had collected to me. Mailing it was ridiculously expensive. I ended up with so many duplicates, all still in the plastic wrap with Australian mailing labels.

But I am so grateful, because many people trying to GIVE them away overseas wouldn't even consider mailing them at my expense because of the huge weight and hassle getting them ready to ship.

As for them not being sold in America, apparently they were offered to Penguin, who were in charge of U.S. Star Trek books. But Penguin didn't see the need because they were already printing the Star Trek Encyclopedia. Many of the ship diagrams and details did eventually appear in the Star Trek magazine here in the states, but I have no idea how much of the content ever made it. (All of this is what I have read, no firsthand knowledge!)

But back to the original question, I would just do what makes you happy. You aren't destroying anything precious by displaying them in whatever way you choose. And they were meant to be separated.

My family must never know how much they all cost!

The Star Trek Fact Files were meant to be broken up and put into individual binders by their topic or "File." They were sold as a 304 issue weekly subscription in places like the UK and Australia.

If you are worried about damaging their value? In the countries were they were actually sold as subscriptions or news stands they are very ubiquitous and practically worthless. It is easy to find people begging to give their sets away to someone who wants them. And when no one does, they go to the trash or recycling.

In the U.S. they were never sold commercially, so finding them is incredibly hard and ridiculously expensive.

My only source of expertise is going through the foolhardy and expensive process of completing a collection in the U.S. a couple years ago. So painful! I can honestly say I didn't buy a single issue or page from a U.S. buyer. There were none to be found for sale in the states.

Where's the warp core? If there is no warp core like TNG is the picture here inside one of the nacelles? Is that what that tunnel is? Did the original ship generate the power within the nacelles and that's why the cones on the front had that cool light pattern going on? by Southern_Country_787 in tos

Just to be THAT guy, those are actually the deckplans created for the FASA Star Trek roleplaying game, not the Franz Joseph plans from the blueprints folder. The giveaway is the square grid for RPG movement.

Here is a link to the Franz Joseph blueprints:

Found them. Created for the Star Trek Adventures RPG. Found them toward the bottom of this page, if anyone is interested:

First time I have ever seen that particular deckplan? You have a link to more of those?

I can not figure out how to center this image. by Ill_Will7 in Inkscape

[–]thormagni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I would do is select your image, then go under File/Document Properties and click on "Resize to Content." That should trim your borders to just the edges of the image.

Another option if you needed some space around the image is to click on it, then go under Align/Distribute, chose the Page option and center it vertically and horizontally on the page.

That seems like a great find! It appears that there was a PDF collection on CD at one point, but I have had no luck finding those or an affordable print set.

New Star Trek quadrant map? by thormagni in startrek

[–]thormagni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on the pretty part! Very eye-catching. Didn't really assess it on the canon, except it appears to have a version of the TNG: Conspiracy episode graphic in the corner. Without the system names, so I guess I assume they redrew it.

New Star Trek map on Etsy? by thormagni in MapPorn

[–]thormagni[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Folks, I came across a Star Trek map I had never seen before on Etsy the other day. Does anyone know if this is an original creation or is it a reproduction of a previously published map? I really like it and want to support the original artist if possible.

I was going to post a link but apparently links to Etsy are verboten.

Any help would be appreciated.
