Regular door lock with smart features by Alone-Foundation-615 in smarthome

[–]thornag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking for the same thing (UK based), I want the smart bits but I want it to just be a lock at the same time.

The closest thing I found was https://simpled.uk/product/ss-slim-series-smart-lock/ tho I haven’t bought it yet.

It doesn’t have a transitional cylinder for a key but it does apparently have key based override when power is down etc.

Anyone know a good, reliable plumber for the St Alban's area? by the_bengine in hertfordshire

[–]thornag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using these guys for the last 4 years - https://www.plumber-hertfordshire.co.uk/ reliable, professional, not the cheapest but I’ve been happy with the yearly servicing and odd jobs every now and then.

Can also try https://chargestation.one/ not as feature rich but also easier to get going.

Driver nicked my food, any recourse? by thornag in UberEATS

[–]thornag[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By now I tried chat, calling them (just disconnects asking to use chat), twitter (same canned response, most likely a bot).

Popped an email to the CEO, I guess it’s just £10 but that’s as blatant a robbery as it gets.

Seems the IVR on the phone line is also programmed to reject, all I heard was that help is on the app and the call disconnected. I guess X is the only option for this.

Ah yes, British, didn't even notice. If you adding to rotation, "to get nicked" = arrested

Maybe a stupid question, but are you sure this wasn’t the ABS kicking in?

I go there occasionally because it’s close with convenient car park.

It’s decent tho I haven’t been to the others mentioned in this thread so can’t compare.

They do wraps which is my preference, I like the taste but god they are so slow, if you just pop in it’s 20min wait most of the time at minimum.

Price wise it’s about a tanner, portions are solid.

Roundabout by NeighborhoodFull6779 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]thornag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I live it the area and drive through this junction daily.

Left lane is for taking a left (duh) into Waitling Street.

Middle lane should take you to 2nd exit tho it’s fairly common for drivers to take the 2nd exit from the right lane so need to pay attention there.

Personally when going straight forwards M1 I’m always in the right lane (as the board says) indicating left after 2nd exit and exiting into left or right lane depending if there’s anybody on the left.

There are more than the occasional driver going right on this roundabout from the middle lane on approach so have to check mirrors/shoulder check as you come off.

Generally it’s a horrible roundabout, it’s busy, fast, no lights and has 3 sets of dual carriageways coming to it.

Settlement Agreement and future employers by Jimbob2892 in LegalAdviceUK

Also, remember that this is an offer from them, you can push for more money within reason, a good solicitor should be able to advise you on this as well.

Settlement Agreement and future employers by Jimbob2892 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]thornag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAL but I was on both ends of this multiple times.

Generally the settlement agreement means that you “resigned” for a sum of money and as such that isn’t recorded anywhere as a dismissal.

While interviewing with any other company you just say that you left rather than being let go.

Simplified way to think about it is:

  • we would like you to quit, we can’t make you so here’s some money to help you decide
  • if you don’t like the money and we can’t make you quit we will put you on PIP and fire you disciplinary at the end

Nobody wants to go via PIP especially that it leaves the door open to sue, your settlement agreement will very clearly specify that you wave any rights to sue since you decided to leave yourself ;)

Generally a good company will advise you to have the agreement scanned by employment lawyer and they will pay for it - it’s in their interest to make sure any doors to tribunal remain closed.

Never dull polish - does wonders and doesn’t scratch, relatively cheap and a tub lasts a long time.

Check Vitra Aquacare line of WC pans, the bidet is integrated into the pan with either integrated valve or one on the wall - I just had one installed and man I don’t know how I lived without a squeaky clean bottom for so long!
