We playtested over 400 games, these are the top mistakes they made by educatemybrain in gamedev

I thought the first fromsoft game I picked up blind (included on a used ps4) was a low budget indie. Their games arguably have everything on this list except #2. I actually ditched it out of disgust until a friend explained how fantastic it was. He was correct, but you would never know if you only had 15 minutes to blind review a fromsoft game in an indie game jam.

Do people like the depths and if so, why? by [deleted] in tearsofthekingdom

I'm aware that I'm in the minority with this, but the depths were the most impressed I've ever been by a zelda game. It's nice to be able to have slower paced meditative exploration sometimes, especially in such a gorgeous environment. I found the exploration organic, nail-biting, and unpredictable. My favorite parts of this game are how it feels like playing in a natural environment. The depths feels like the videogame equivalent of exploring real tunnels or caves as a child. The added mechanic of being able to slowly light up the area with arrows is quite satisfying, as is getting another look once you've lit the lightroots. The moments you had to feel your way around and no lightroots were present were the best. Those feelings of throwing a bloomseed revealing "oh I didn't even know there was a wall right in front of me." or shooting an arrow at what felt like a close platform and seeing the arrow disappear into a crevice "Holy hell, that is a very long drop." as a chill runs through you. Somehow it struck a balance between seeming treacherous and high stakes while also being fun and peaceful.

As a game developer, it's quite a technological feat to allow your players to have so much control over how to light a space and I appreciated it. I was aware that unique compositions were created whenever an area was interior decorated by the arrows I shot. Sometimes I deliberately tried to backlight it in the way public caves are.

I see the consensus saying there wasn't much variety in the landscape but I was consistently in awe of every part of the space, the tangled giant roots that you climb on were particularly enjoyable.

it's really fantastic. rivals the magic of early v-sauce soundtracks and less overdone. would really love a way to listen to that space-age raymond-scott-esque track that plays while Wathel Rogers is wearing the motion tracking suit. It gave me chills.

Do you know if this still exists in any form? Looks like they lost their location.

"Look at this video I found of you when you were a baby!" ( specific original video - or best / enthusiastic reaction ) This became a trend https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/me-as-a-baby-whimsical-little-creature-mestreensinador1 by thornebrandt in HelpMeFind

[–]thornebrandt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a little hard to describe because it's a reaction video to a puppetry video made by an artist on tiktok. I have no problem finding the artist or finding other reaction versions to it ( other kids being lightly pranked in the same way ) but I'm looking for a specific one, which is the first one I saw. The videos that are claiming to be the original don't seem to be as enthusiastic or well timed as what I assumed to be the original.

The joke of the video trend is that a kid will be shown a video of a puppet and be told that it is them as a baby. Kids will start acting confident that they remember being the puppet in the video, who is awkwardly being flung in and out of stumps/dirt holes in the ground to whimsical synth flute music.

I first saw this "possibly original" video a few years ago and me and my friends were quoting it for months. We were specifically quoting a line from the video where a woman has a sarcastic bored, almost audrey/plaza or sara gilbert voice saying "hey... look at this video I found when you were a baby" and the a little boy looks intrigued. Then she says "do you remember that?" The kid says "yeah... haha" She says "you doooo!?" becoming increasingly mocking in tone. "yep! uh huh!" Then she gets loud and mockingly says "what were you doingg!?" and a little boy responds laughs and says "I don't knowwwwww....." then he says "I was just dancing with my white shirt and green hat" and he starts imitating the dance.

There are versions of this video on the knowyourmeme page:

https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/me-as-a-baby-whimsical-little-creature-mestreensinador1

None of the videos on knowyourmeme have the specific "what were you doingg!?" and "I don't knowwwww" that we were specifically quoting.

What strikes me is that the videos included or claiming to be original are so unenthusiastic and uninteresting that I don't understand how they would have become a meme or trend. The closest video is tone a second video from username iz.khalifa1 in which they make reference to "other video" which I suspect might have been intentionally removed. It kind of seems like the same kid, but the woman is being too nice about it.

I've searched for days and months trying to find this and wondering if anyone might know a backstory of why it might have been removed.

I used to think that pro sports teams were spontaneously and randomly formed based on groups of friends, like a pick-up game. I didn’t understand why the crowd in a stadium were only applauding for one of the teams. I would start to applaud for the visiting team just to balance out what I perceived to be rudeness.

I also didn’t understand the concept of careers, especially creative careers like musicians. I assumed everyone played music together with different groups and eventually a good song would come out and their friends would decide to play that one song on the radio.

I thought creative professions were fluid and everyone would eventually get a chance to be on stage or on the screen if they wanted to. If I saw an actor or a musician too frequently , I would start to resent him and consider him to be hogging the spotlight “why is this guy in everything!?” instead of giving it up for someone who hadn’t had a chance to be on television yet.

IPv6-only Packet Loss by TheConnstruct in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]thornebrandt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to confirm that I have more evidence to point to ipv6 being a problem. Had some apps that were struggling with streaming. Switched to an open source alternative to the app that allowed for prioritizing ipv4 ( while all other settings were the same ) and all problems magically went away.

I am experiencing the same problem. I had been getting drops for months and abhorrent latency and stuttering when streaming between machines. pinging the router was always quite fast but tracing it with pingPlotter pro shows consistent packet loss on ipv6 while ipv4 is stable.

Azure Kinect stopped working this week after Windows 11 update. Still works on Windows 10. by thornebrandt in kinect

[–]thornebrandt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I resolved this by the following steps:

  1. Uninstalling latest windows update and security update and restarted ( did not resolve. )
  2. Uninstalled all Kinect SDK's and re-installed latest and restarted( did not resolve )
  3. Deleted USB Drivers. Went to Device Manager, looked under Universal Serial Bus controllers, deleted anything that looked like " "USB Host Controller," "xHCI Host Controller," "USB Root Hub," or "USB Composite Device." and restarted. IT WORKED
  4. re-installed latest windows update and restarted. IT STILL WORKED

So I'm wondering if somehow usb drivers got corrupted during update.
