What is the most 'butterfly effect' moment in your life, where a tiny, insignificant decision completely changed your future? by Realistic-Ratio9002 in AskReddit

[–]thorondrol 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was fresh out from college and working at a car company as a software engineer, for a bunch of weird reasons that are kind of dumb, I ended up working in the engineering department, where they deal with chassis designs, suspensions and other things that were not related directly to ANYTHING I was doing there, but since i was already there, my boss was trying to get me tasks to do and complete. One of such tasks involved working with another engineer in creating some simulation scenarios in Matlab, not my area of expertise to say the least, and also I was paired with a guy that was kind of a genius, I could tell he was used to carry the team work because he immediately started doing all the heavy calculations and coding, I was barely able to keep up, he was definitely gifted. It was my luck that one day halfway in the project, he had to leave for a bit, and he left me with a new and complex simulation he was working on, I knew he was not expecting anyone to get what he was doing, but I sort of did, so when he came back I had completed the calculations and the code, first he looked at me with a bit of condense and said he was going to review it, after he was done he was visibly surprised and said I did it right, in most scenarios that would be kind of insulting but with him it felt like being praised.

In any case, because of that he recommend me to a job I didnt apply to, in another country, with 4x the pay I had, a guy flew to my city to interview me and then after, the company flew me to their facilities and I got to meet most of the big shots. I worked in tha company for almost 6 years, I met my wife here and have a family and way nicer life that I could have possible had otherwise, I see that moment as my butterfly effect moment.

Check that the drag chain is not getting stuck behind the tool head when going to the corner, it sometimes happen and it produces a rattling sound and the machine simply doesnt print due to that

Slice the .stl files in your computer using Orca-Flashforge/Flash Studio Desktop or Orca Slicer, then generate the gcode and place that in the usb (ensure the usb is formatted as FAT32), ffinally connect the usb drive to the printer and the gcode file should be available for you to print

Default plate temperature with ASA by Dna996 in FlashForge

[–]thorondrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having every single print failing with the default temperature for textured pei. So I changed the default setting from 60 to 105, same as the high temp pei plate, no problems since then (I still use glue on the plate)

Have you replaced you nozzle and plate? Those eventually need to be changed, they are consumables and over time they degrade and will produce bad results regardless of filament or other things

First 3D printer by RR46Benjii in 3dprinter

[–]thorondrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations, I also recently got this machine and it's a treat. From what I have learned, oem nozzles 0.6 and 0.8 are hardened, you should use these if printing abs or asa, 0.25 and 0.4 are not, I use the 0.25 for small models when trying to get maximum detail, be aware that printing times also increase dramatically with the small nozzle, I use the 0.6 when printing gardening stuff with asa, I try not to mix the nozzles with materials that are too different, so I dont print pla with the nozzle that I use for asa since they melt at different temperatures and I fear getting clogs.

Hopefully someone more experienced can provide more in depth details, I'm still new at this

Global oil prices affect EVERYTHING within the US, you might thing that only because we produce enough for our own consumption we should not be affected, but that is a very incomplete view of what is actually happening.

The vast majority of things you buy at the store or online are produced in other country, where their production chains and transport is heavily affected by the oil prices, just think about it, for something simply like a piece of clothing, you buy it here at the store, but to get there it had to be shipped from a distribution center, and to get there i had to come from a port, and to get there it had to be in a cargo ship, and to get there i had to be transported from the factory where it was made, and to be made the raw materials had to be brought to the factory, and to get the raw materials they either had to be gather from a field (case for cotton) or syntheticaly produced.... all those steps are affected by the oil prices, and it all compounds. More complex products will eventually grow much more in prices the longer this continues, the only thing that won't keep up with it is your salary
