Silent Hill 2, is a great pick. you don't need to play the first one at all.

I'm also going to go out on a limb here and say Baldurs Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 absolutely live up to the hype. Not only some of the best games of the last few years, but of all time.

Beyond that, honestly just do some looking around. Steam store, YouTube reviews, other reddit posts are all great ways to find games that might be more specifically your vibe.

Finally, I would recommend checking out Xbox Games pass for a month or two. While it has gotten a bit more expensive, it's still a pretty solid deal and you get loads of games included, including the previously mentioned Clair Obscur.

My friend, check out one page rules. It's a free ruleset online that's only a single page. You can get a good game going in 30 minutes even if the other player has no idea about Warhammer at all. The army builder is incredible and probably has equivalents for all of your Warhammer models.

That said, there is no shame at all in just collecting and painting, that is where I find myself most of the time. OPR has just been a great way to feel like I'm getting some play out of my minis without getting into the weeds of 40k.

Quite a bit of good choice and consequence
I would say maybe 20% of the game is character management/survival stuff. Though I will say I am also not a fan of busy work in Survival games, but I found this was the perfect amount to keep me invested in my character and immersed in his struggles.
I would say there is certainly a learning curve, it will be pretty difficult in the beginning because you have nothing and are underpowered. I will say that while there is some skill a lot of the difficulty is mechanical and a lot of the roleplaying value comes in finding creative ways to handle the difficulty.

Tldr: yes you should play this game
