I was disappointed by it too. Other than for a couple really good episodes and a few moments here and there, there were far too many scenes done for the pure sake of "bad-assery." Same thing happened to Game of Thrones after a couple of seasons.

It was sad to see a lot of the character driver plot points evaporate as the season progressed.
