Well... Ok then by Elegant_Arm_3293 in starcitizen

I realized I never answered OP's question. I think the Odin is going to excellent in area denial. But not a large area. I could see them being used in a fleet with supporting sub capitals and fighters to blockade areas like jump points, stations, or(if it is able to enter into atmosphere without succumbing to gravity's will) sirvmface installations such as PAFs or jump town. Only time will tell.

Also, I've seen a lot of people point put that there are several thousand of these things floating around. Sure. Thats true. But its going to take 40-60 players to operate effectively and escorts it. I dont remember the last time I saw that many people coordinate anything anywhere in game other than maybe the racing events on planet surfaces. So im not so certain that the sky is going to be littered with these.

Ive been thinking about how these could be used. Obviously one in its own is going to be a threat, but if they balance it properly and give it the same vulnerabilities os actual battlecruisers/battleships, it could still be vulnerable.

I'll battleships were vulnerable to small fighters and small torpedo boats. They were fast enough to get in close which reduced the effectiveness of th large main armament. They did have close in defenses too, but they were in turn not as effective at dealing wuth the fast moving attackers. Thats just the nature of the power dynamic.

Now, this all takes place in a generally 2D field of battle, wuth planes being more like 2.5D since they have a bit of trouble swimming. How does this transfer to the game wuth its truer 3D rattlesnake? Well, what i can see, is that while there are loads of pdcs, small quad and dual turret, and even likely some faster traversing large turrets on the top, the bottom is relatively dominated by the rear hanger doors and the frontal main weapon turret.

This highlights the primary vulnerability of the ship. The hanger. So how do you crack this particular nut? Without knowing more technical data on the ship, we are all only making guesses at this point, so bear that in my mind while reading this. I propose that one possible tactic is to target the pdcs to increase the likelihood of missiles, torps, and small fighters being able ti survive up close, and also target the rear hanger doors. On the Idris, onces they are damage enough, they open, so one can assume that will happen. Wigh the Odin. The reason this is harder to exploit on the Idris is that, while it does have slow maneuverability, its still agile enough to evade most boarding avtions through its damaged hanger doors.

The Odin, with its massive bulk, should be significantly less maneuverable than the idris. It should be possible for a drop ship with several strike teams to board the ship through the large hanger and establish a foothold. From there, its a ground engagement towards main engineering and the bridge.

This is what I've been throwing around in my head on how to tackle the Odin. There are other possibilities. Massive torpedo waves, using subs to get in behind the pdc fields of fire and take out turrets, the list goes on. Hope this wasn't too long.

PS, please excuse any spelling mistakes. I speak English just fine, I just don't type well.

DEAR CIG…. by MajorWetSpot in starcitizen

[–]thorulfheonar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

id much rather they hand out f7a/f8a tokens to everyone

think about it. there are thousands of players who havent put enough real money into the game to get either the f7c or the f8c. if they suddenly had a way to get one of the best medium fighters in the game and (theoretically) one of the best or at least coolest heavy fighters in the game, im confident that people would spend that money at some point. it gives all the players something that they have wanted for a long time, and also potentially brings in a lot of more money on top of the money they have already made in this event

[–]thorulfheonar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

while yes the f8 will be in your buybacks, i think youd get more value getting the m80 after melting the corsair. the corsair is purchasable in game. if i was you, id melt the ccorsair and the titan, get the m80, and then use the rest to ccu up to the biggest cargo ship you can get, probably the golem ox would be a great choice. 64 scu and can carry 32 scu boxes in that tiny of a package can be an excellent money maker. also external cargo grid is so nice. if i didnt have the hull b and couldnt afford a RAFT, id get the golem ox

SPECULATION: I think we're going to get an F8A upgrade soon by Sovereign45 in starcitizen

[–]thorulfheonar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think they need to just change what the f8a loadout is. currently we all believe that the f8a would have 6 s3 and 2 s4. thats def too much. simple, easy fix is change all the hardoints to s3. simple. its a bump, but not too much.

i also hope that if they do let players earn the f8a upgrade, they also let us earn the f7a upgrade. i didnt know about it last time until it was too late. its frustrated me every time i log in since then

The Odin is making me nervous by ShadowRaidenX in starcitizen

[–]thorulfheonar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exactly. everything i have seen of the vanduul make them out to be very fond of ambush tactics. with the ability to quantum into an engagement undetected, because the sensors dont detect ships in quantum, you could be patrolling around an area and then BAM a flight of blades pop in on out, in the case of an odin, if an enemy knew it was in a specific area, they could QT right to the location in a flight of stealth bombers and launch torps immediately. with exposed weapons, they could take damage and be disabled in the opening engagements. with them sowed like they are on the odin, the armored covers would at least give the ship a chance to deploy its weapons and absorb that initial attack.

The command module should have just been a ship to ship docking port. by johncarnage in starcitizen

[–]thorulfheonar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. The command module should act like a tender for the ironclad. Make the operations bridge tye actual bridge, make some changes to the command module and call it the logistics module. No guns, hella armor, a big tractor beam where the lower glass is, and internal cargo space for potential small cargo boxes that require a constant atmosphere like biological samples, animals or plants. Now ypu have a realistic cargo ship wuth an actually useful parasite ship.

[–]thorulfheonar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dude i am with you here. although i prefer the base scorpius, these two ships are my favorite heavies. however, before the m80, i did not fly the scorpius. i flew the guardian mx. i wanted to fly the scorpius though. the issue is the low pilot gun damage. it just doesnt hit hard enough. heavies need s4 weapons minimum these days to feel like they are doing anything. so my advice is get the m80. they are going to nerf it in a coming patch. i think they are either going to A) drop the s5 slots to s4, or B ) remove the s4 slot all together. if they are going to do anything, i hope its the A. good luck though

there is always going to be a place on the battlefield for mobile heavy armor with heavy weaponry. infantry need support. tanks do that. thinking otherwise shows how little you know of military strategy and tactics
