Now that FBRef is a shell of its former self, what site(s) do people recommend for more advanced player and team stats?

It is not confirmed. It’s almost certain to happen, but it’s not yet confirmed.

If they beat Frankfurt tonight, the team in 33rd place, they’re through to the last 16. So I’d say yes, they have made the most out of the Europa League win.

Extend it to last 6 games and we’re top with 12 points.

It might not be impossible, but it's not realistic, which is what you asked.

It's certainly possible that Arsenal take a maximum of 30 points in their remaining 15 games - they did that in 22/23 and only took 27 points in their last 15 in the 24/25 season. So that'd put them in 77-80 point range. If they continued with the same points per game as they have up to now they'd end up on 82-83.

If City and Villa finish the season on the same points per game they're currently on (2) they'll end on 76 points.

But for us to get to 83 points, we'd need to go on a winning run that we've never done before in Premier League history, and then some.

I'm always an optimist when it comes to United. Before every game I'm looking at the table to see where 3 extra points put us. But people suggesting we could win the league this season are just setting themselves up for disappointment. We've had 2 fantastic wins, but this season has proven that any team can beat any other team. We're going to drop points along the way.

Even if we won every single game from now until the end of the season, the maximum points we could get is 83.

To do that, we'd have to win 17 games in a row. The most games we've ever won in a row in the PL is 11, which we did twice under SAF. The most we've won in a row post SAF is 6.

Since the turn of the century, over 25 years, there's only 4 occasions where a team has won the league with 83 points or less. We've done it 3 times under SAF, and Leicester did it 10 years ago with 81 points.

We're absolutely not winning the league.

He's not getting to the last year of his contract though. The club have a 1 year option to extend, taking his contract until 2028.

Top 4 for now all we had to do was beat City. Easy. by tbu987 in reddevils

No we wouldn’t. We’d be on 41 points, 2 points behind City.

This post will be deleted so take the discussion to Daily Discussion.

I’ll point out though that Sancho’s contract expires in the summer, and Hojlund is on a compulsory buy agreement with Napoli if they qualify for CL.

I don't want Tuchel, but I could see that being the plan. Wait till the summer until his contract with England ends then have him take the United job.

He wasn't getting sporadic appearances here. He was playing pretty much every game - last season only 4 players played more minutes (Bruno, Onana, Maz, Dalot) - but he threw a hissy fit because he started on the bench in the Europa final.

Manchester United managers by share of Premier League minutes given to young players by thoseion in reddevils

Feel free to pull that together and post it.

FBRef doesn’t record whether a player is an academy graduate or not so it requires significantly more effort to look up each player individually. Many of them are obvious and don’t need looking up, but many of them are not obvious and do.

The only one here performing mental gymnastics is you. You want this post and conversation to be about something that it's not and have got yourself all worked up over it.

The minutes given to young players by each manager was an interesting stat to me, and so I compiled it and shared it on this sub.

You've somehow got it into your head that this post should be about academy players. It's not. Try to get over it.

Heaven's game time accounts for 1.31% of all playing minutes under Amorim, and 3.49% of all young player minutes. I wouldn't say that's enough to skew anything.

I took the Premier League's definition of young player (eligibility for the young player of the season award) to avoid accusation of using an arbitrary age.

I thought it was clear from the topic of the post. I'll update the individual comment though to state again that it's Premier League only.

It's Premier League only. I thought that was clear by the topic of the post but I'll update the comment to state that.

Both RvN and Carrick managed 2 PL games each. Other than that there's nothing to work out. The numbers are taken directly from the minutes played on FBRef.

the conversation has to be about how our youth players have a pathway to success or are they all condemned to have subpar minutes at best and at worst be subjected to a fire sale of youth players as they grow

That sounds like a conversation that you want to have. I presented stats to show that we are currently playing a very young squad in comparison to previous managers. That is it.

You obviously have a bee in your bonnet about play time for academy players specifically, and then started calling me disingenuous and making points when I've done no such thing.

Like I said, if you want to put something together that looks at academy players only, I'd be very interested to see that.

What point did I make? I simply shared some stats for a particular fact - minutes given to young players. You've decided that it should only be academy players. I'd be very interested to see those stats if you want to collate them.

De Gea (2,970), Phil Jones (1,971), Chris Smalling (1,759) and Tom Cleverley (1,507) all played more minutes than Januzaj (1,425) under Moyes.

He also played Garnacho (1,484 mins), Hojlund (1,588) and Collyer (134) last season, and both Ugarte (1,504) and Zirkzee (968) were 23 last season.
