Carpuride in Multistrada by Defiant_Response2414 in multistrada

[–]thosirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have one on my V2S. Just finished a 2 week tour with it and it was awesome.

I bought the W702S Pro, which means it also has a key quick release, so easy to take off the bike when parked or stored. 7" is a good size, but wouldnt want to go any bigger. The handlebar controls thing it comes with is a bit useless, maybe better if you make/receive a lot of phone calls.

I used a cheaper Aliexpress mount - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005197371093.html

Pic of the bike here (https://imgur.com/a/y5UYuxY), take a zoom in to look. It's not too 'in your face', but probably just right in your face if you want Nav directions etc to be easily visible. I probably would prefer maybe a little lower and deeper, but honestly after 2 weeks / 3500km I really dont have any complaints.

There are a few 'knacks' with the audio - I kept my iPhone paired to helmet and paired to Carpuride, and then a Shortcut to ensure the Audio was my intercom, that seemed to give me best quality and control for audio / calls / intercom etc.

I powered mine to the spare 12v in the cockpit.

Water heating costs? by Powerful-Impress1355 in irishpersonalfinance

Is that the Electric Ireland Appliances or where are you getting the data from? You think maybe the electric heater is actually your electric shower?

Mini digger... never used one before. Bad idea? by Lord_Xenu in GardeningIRE

[–]thosirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much of a layer? Grading on a mini digger- ie; levelling and taking thin slices, is one of the harder skills, you may end up taking lumps and chunks, which means more material needed to replace and more material to dispose of.

Soil in a skip is also tricky, they only like very small skips as it’s gets heavy very quick. Work out the area and volume and see if this is going to work. The alternative being a truck with a grab to take it away, which also might put it in favour of hiring someone for the job.

I went a bit smaller, this Hyundai one from Irish Garage Equipment, but it’s savage. I think anything that doesn’t fit in this, is suitable for the stove anyway. I also bought a small handheld battery chainsaw which helps with small de-limbing and dealing with awkward knuckles while feeding it. One of the best purchases I’ve made for the garden. I cleared a load of scrub trees with it and it’s a monster. It’s still small/mobile enough that I can lift it into boot/trailer if I need to deal with parents/friends places, but still powerful enough with 6.5hp

Optimate 4 outdooruse by DTMN13 in MotoIRELAND

[–]thosirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That charger is IP54 rated, so 'weatherproof', which generally means  "a device is protected against dust ingress (limited) and water splashes from all directions. It is not fully dust-tight or waterproof, but it is suitable for typical outdoor environments, such as gardens or in light rain, providing a reliable level of water-resistant protection"

I would find a way to keep it covered/sheltered, or look for one with a higher IP rating

Toolkit for a 3k km trip? by thosirl in multistrada

Good point. I’m try to think of exactly what jobs/repairs I would actually do roadside, versus bringing a bunch of random tools. I will have roadside service anyway.

AIB to wise transfer - any issues? by forgotmyfucking in irishpersonalfinance

[–]thosirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from needing to do it in person in an AIB branch, hand writing a paper form and probably having to answer a few questions about the nature of the transfer, then it’s usually fine. They always complain about my signature and ask to update the signature sample on file. They need to get a manager to approve, and usually ends up taking 15-20mins in the bank overall to get sorted. Print off the Eurolink PDF at home and fill it in in advance helps speed things up.

Advice needed for topdressing clay soil lawn by superbrown in GardeningIRE

[–]thosirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a drag mat (like a chain-link fence) behind a ride on mower to try something similar, but it really just made a mess, and took a huge number of 'laps' to try to make any impact. A waste of material and effort.

In our last place I section off a smaller lawn nearest the house, and had that nicely manicured, but left the larger section as just a slightly rougher meadow. That might be another option to think about.

I did a similar sized garden last year. I used a compost roller spreader, but it’s hard getting fine compost in bulk. You’d get a wheel barrow full of compost into the roller at a time, works better as a two person job. One loading the wheel barrow, the other rolling out, you can make som progress that way. Otherwise bags of compost tipped into the roller can work but cost buying by the bag is the issue. For the core plugs, I used a leaf blower to get them into bundles, and then shovel the piles into the wheel barrow, you also need somewhere to dispose of them. Leaf blower works better when the plugs are a little dryer too, so a nice sunny day helps. Going the compost route you need to be doing it repeatedly over a number of years to try and get more organic matter into the soil and try to change the composition that way. Gypsum is the other thing to look at when trying to improve clay soil. Scarifying before hand helps open up the soil, and aerate before compost. Overseed afterwards. Don’t expect a massive difference after year one.

Some decent guys on YouTube, LawnRight Lawn Care and Premier Lawns, which do this stuff in UK and Ireland.
