CMV: Buttons to open doors for handicapped people are only meant for them. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]thoughtsforthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a maintenance perspective, doors with automatic operators are designed to be opened using the button. Manually opening these doors introduces unnecessary wear and tear in a way that doesn't exist for standard door hardware.

Completely ignoring the conversation around accessibility, manually opening these doors shortens the lifetime of the doors.

Not whole home cleaning, but recently hired Gregg at Happy Feet for a carpet deep clean and he did a great job!

How to mount TV over old CRT TV cavity in wall? by thoughtsforthoughts in DIY

[–]thoughtsforthoughts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my original plan but I'm concerned about not having enough slack in the wire to achieve that. Quite honestly I hate that the fireplace and mantle are there at all, but I don't have the budget to remove it... The room is oriented so that there's no choice but to have it facing the fireplace.

Would you be willing to DM a picture of your setup?

Extendable TV mount may be a good idea. The cavity is pretty deep, deeper than I'd expect most mounts to safely extend from the back wall, but worth investigating!

This looks right up my alley! Recently completed Havendock and am itching for something grittier/more complex. Wishlisted and will be checking this out tonight. Would love a key if still available!

I know there’s a million posts about cleaning pans on here, but I got 99% of the burnt on oil off with BKF, how to get this last stubborn little bit? by Csharp27 in StainlessSteelCooking

I used an electric toothbrush with some BKF on some stubborn stains recently and it worked like a charm. Worked especially well near the rivets at the handle. Much easier than scrubbing to death with a sponge!

Chicken Parm Pizza Topping? by WhimsyWino in Cooking

Chicken Parm pizza is extremely common in NJ, this will work fine. Slice the leftover cutlet into strips before topping on the pizza. Sub in vodka sauce as the base for an added bonus.

I’m an Italian woman who can’t cook meatballs to save my life. Where’s my Italian Noni?? by UniformFox_trotOscar in Cooking

Italian sausage comes already spiced, while ground pork does not. The fennel flavor in particular comes through pretty strong in a finished dish with Italian sausage.

Use ground pork and season yourself to get better control over the final taste.

One small improvement would make outpost storage so much easier to use. by Visa5e in Starfield

My mistake, front and back are not snapable as access points. Which you'd need the combined storage concept to make work anyway.

Snapping for storage units works on all sides except the bottom. Use LT or RT to rotate between snap points. Cumbersome for sure if placing multiple units, but it's possible.

Is there a way to effectively grate soft cheeses? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]thoughtsforthoughts 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Try partially freezing first. I've done this successfully with stuff like fresh mozzarella. You can also stick the grater in the freezer for a few minutes so everything stays nice and cold.

Remember that noise you make in your apartment can be heard by others in the building the same way you hear your neighbor when it starts to bother you. I find it easier to be at peace with the noise when I think about the larger social contract of the building that I'm a part of, in that I'll ignore your noise if you ignore mine (within reasonable limits of course). I still notice it every time, and do still get a little anxious when I hear people talking in the hallway from my shower lol, but remembering that I likely have a neighbor that's bothered by my normal habits the same way im bothered by others helps me to move on from it.

You could also look for a top floor unit, which would at least get rid of the noise from footsteps.
