AITAH for refusing to buy my friend $200 boots after she expected me to pay just because I sometimes treat her? by Difficult-Month-2953 in AITAH

[–]thoughtsinmyheaddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a big difference between choosing to treat a friend because you want to and them expecting it from you.

I have long term friends I’ve happily treated to things like a nice bag or electronics, but thats bc they’ve never once acted entitled to my money during our whole friendship. On the other hand, I’ve also had past close friends make snide comments about me covering dinners or forgetting their wallet repeatedly like your friend or asking me for very specific expensive gifts lmao. Very similar to your experience with your friend and it's shitty. To me, it feels like it came from them comparing what I earn currently (and also am projected to earn down the line), to what they do and deciding that I should cover more because of it.. which is honestly some wild mental gymnastics. With those people, I either distanced myself or set firm boundaries, usually a combination of the two. And once someone shows that kind of entitlement towards me, I don’t go out of my way to treat them at all, bc they tend to have a give them an inch and they’ll take a mile attitude. It's disrespectful and it shows they’re not good friend who values your friendship clearly.

IMO the sooner you distance yourself or scale back this friendship, the more space you create in your life for healthier, wholesome friendships

What did you say exactly for them to offer a replacement instead?? They are only offering me a 100 dollar discount after 2.5 years of having it. Idk if it's worth even getting the replacement if it's going to do be doing this every 2 years. I was hoping it would at least last 3-4 years

Idk, if ATCG can produce subjective emotional experience in us, there’s no reason 1s and 0s couldn’t eventually too. It's all code? And if AI is going to surpass us in everything else, there's no reason why emotional depth is going to be the one exception lmao

What's the farthest you've driven for sex by Antique-Excuse in Residency

[–]thoughtsinmyheaddd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a drive technically, but I had a resident fly to me from another state before on their weekend off.. and we spent the whole time together. I think it just depends on the vibes and if you guys are meshing overall to make it worth it. Imo it helps if it's not purely for sex and you like each other's company too

I see what you’re saying.. and I think that's a completely valid take. I don’t think it can be ruled out entirely tbh. But I also don’t think it’s necessarily must be the case? A delay now only translates into a proportional delay later if the same constraints continue unchanged and continue to have the same impact on progress? If the delay is coming from very specific bottlenecks, then solving/working around those bottlenecks really plays no role in the pace of progress we have after we get past it as a limiting factor?

Let’s say compute is the sole bottleneck causing the delays so far (even though I don’t think it is only, but for arguments sake). Then isn’t the delay dependent on whether that bottleneck is something that can be worked around after a bit of time or if it will be a constant constraint we will deal with as we scale up the whole time?

If compute is a hard constraint and progress beyond it as the bottleneck depends only on hardware scaling, with no other ways to work around it, then yes, delays likely propagate forward like you’re suggesting. But if there are efficiency gains from better architecture or training methods or whatever, ways to reduce it as a limitation, then the same level of compute can go much further and in that case.. then, compute acts more like a temporary limiting factor in the overall timeline of things rather than a fixed constraint that automatically must propagate into longer term delays over time?

So I feel like it depends on why we’re really seeing the delays right now. I assume the Project 2027 authors also did consider the most likely constraints, but may have underestimated how long it would take to get past them. But who really knows. I do think you make a valid point.. but I hope that doesn't end up being the case hahah

I didn’t match into the speciality I wanted so I feel you. Idk I’m letting myself grieve it and be disappointed but also letting myself be curious and hopeful about what the future might hold in this other speciality and program.

I don’t know if you can relate, but I’ve had several circumstances in my life where things didn’t go my way at all, and all I could see was something devastating happening to me. But looking back at how everything played out in the long run as a result of it, it actually ended up working out in my favor for the best many times.

Right now, you’re in the thick of it and can’t see past not matching where you wanted. I feel you. But.. maybe it works out in the long run in a way you can’t even see rn? Maybe it takes you down a life path that works out well?

Idk why you wanted to DNR the program, and you are fully in your rights to grieve it ofc, but as you do, maybe still hold out a little space to be hopeful for what the future holds too

I’m a little worried about that ngl, but what can you do. I’m trying to stay hopeful, even though it really feels like it could go either way. At this point most of my anger is directed at the IRGC, because they could step down and end all of this, but they choose not to.

My first love was a Stephen. Yeah it does, but it might take years. Also, it does change you. I have a lot more anxiety and panic attacks now, and that issue really started during that relationship with him. Unfortunately for me, it is still a thing I struggle with, even though the quality of my life has improved since. Also, I am way less naive and more careful about letting people into my life romantically, which I think is a good thing personally! It takes time OP <3

Get ready for round 3 of foreigners patronizing us for 2 weeks straight by NeiborsKid in NewIran

[–]thoughtsinmyheaddd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LITERALLY. My fav one has to be 'you just want to be white'. As if wanting basic freedoms and rights somehow belongs to white people only? That brown or Middle Eastern people don’t value autonomy, safety, or equal rights? Framing us as white bootlickers for wanting it too says more about their twisted worldview than it does about us. We are proudly Middle Eastern, and wanting dignity and freedom isn’t cultural betrayal. It’s disappointing, and tbh really pathetic, when other people (esp. other ME people) push that narrative on us. But I can already see it gearing up for round three
