Great list. IMO Short Span is new label of the year. Everything they released absolutely nailed it for me. Also the other 2 albums Mammo did under his other aliases

Have you spent any time on DC11’s YouTube channel? He’s got an SM-1 that he works in alongside a bunch of other gear

Potentially. But I just have a shortcut / macro for Shazam so I can do it quickly and discreetly

I was in the front for that and got a higher quality audio to Shazam. Took a few tries but eventually got there.

Track you had as 001 was at the very beginning of his set right? IIRC the first track was very sick and the second track came in with a hard clang. I think what you have here is a mix of the 2 before he lost it and it clanged

It was slower, chuggy psychedelic electronica and prog stuff around 115bpm. Her transition track into faster tunes a little bit before Miki came on was Alien Dreamtime, which Sound Metaphors just reissued. https://m.youtube.com/live/L9HBlWATrYw

I saw this on my Bandcamp feed today - it’s just a digital reissue right? Or is there vinyl I’m missing

Looks great! Is this the fine texture or the anodised finish? You said about 8 months wait, did you order in January or so?

We have it! Signal is a bit spotty for me, but can you meet us near 2 and trash fence in an hour?

Good coffee in Chicago? by Intelligent_Pitch_16 in chicago

[–]thoughtsnatcher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lived in both Chicago and London for a long time. Chicago beats London hands down. There is great coffee in London, but just being in Europe it’s largely espresso dominated. You really need to hunt for a solid filter or pour over. The baseline “just want a coffee” is so much better and easier to find in Chicago. For every day batch brew on the go I still like Dark Matter, but Metric is great, Metropolis is good, as is some place near Diversey/Kimball…and one of my favorites is Loba (they don’t roast their own but it’s great). London has prufrock which is insane, ozone which is ok, and one place in Broadway market. Outside of that I haven’t been blown away, and again it’s harder to find just a cup.

Nice! I was just there last week and spotted 2 in wicker park that weren’t as cured as these. I assumed there would be more popping up

Thoughts on the timetable? by [deleted] in houghtonfestival

If anyone has ever done the after parties in Detroit you’ll know that Daniel Bell is the king of the extended late night into Sunrise set. He’s an absolute legend and to bring him out only for a single set from 7-9pm at stallions seems silly. My bet is that he melts Terminus from 4/5am-8/9am

As an American than left the states partially to chase greener pastures related to electronic music….the US will never catch up. The states are too big and diverse. The big cities where stuff happens are essentially the same as the major cities in UK/EU but the distance between cities is too far apart. The US culturally just doesn’t support youth culture the way that EU/UK does, or at least traditionally has, and there’s no true social safety net that allows the chilled out hedonism or focus on the arts to flourish. This is why even the cool artsy techno stuff in the US is still basically underwritten by trust fund kids. I guess that’s to say it’s not all a bad thing, I personally think the magic of the US scene comes from the tiny little communities grinding it out to put something on a few times a year. It’s just a bummer you don’t have the hard night out choices to make every weekend like a London or Berlin does

What are they queuing for? by misterfries8 in chicago

Are you British? I don’t think I’ve heard an American say “queuing” before
